Main Street welcome The Sheridan at Lakewood Ranch, a senior assistedliving facility, added its first Welcome Center Dec. 3 to Main Street. A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the opening. The main facility is scheduled to open early in 2016. The Welcome Center will have staff on site 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and by appointment on Sundays. “People can be independent while living in a vibrant community,” Sheridan Executive Director Kathy White said.

he sizes up his equine options. Last September in Charleston, W.V., the option was 4-year-old Never So Sweet, who caught his eye. At first glance, the thoroughbred had near perfect conformatio, and she didn’t shy away when he approached her.
After the filly passed his initial eye test, Johnson was ready to check her racing form. In eight races, Never So Sweet had finished seventh or worse every time. The fact she wasn’t a champion didn’t hurt her value to him. SEE PAGE 8A
