OUR TOWN + Perry walks this way We told you last week to be on the lookout for Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, who has a condo at Sanctuary and was playing a concert last week at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Sources tell us that he is in town — and he sent one member of his crew to the Other Side (of Longboat Key). Alan Moore, co-owner of the north-end Moore’s Stone Crab Restaurant, told the Longboat Observer that a member of Perry’s camp ordered stone crabs to take back to Perry’s south-end condominium, where the group was watching the New England Patriots game. We imagine staffers felt sweet emotion when they learned they were preparing stone crabs for Aerosmith’s lead guitarist.

March election date changes The town of Longboat Key will hold its municipal election March 12 with one week of early voting at Town Hall the week before.

The town of Longboat Key is bumping up the date of its March election, and Longboat Key Town Commission candidate Gene Jaleski is questioning the decision. The town’s charter sets the date for the town’s general elec-

tion as the third Tuesday in March, which puts the date for an election that includes three Longboat Key Town Commission races March 19. But Town Clerk Trish Granger told commissioners Dec. 10, at their regular workshop, that a

strong case could be made to move the March election a week earlier to March 12. “Sarasota has three elections March 12, and Kathy Dent, at the Supervisor of Elections Office, has asked us to consider aligning our election with those three

elections because it’s beneficial for her staff,” Granger said. By sharing an election day with Sarasota, the town would save advertising fees for the election canvassing board and could share early-voting costs. In addition, the charter provides the option for the town to

+ 36 hours and counting Quick: You’ve got 36 hours in Sarasota. What do you do? Why, you venture over to Longboat Key and St. Armands Circle. The Dec. 13 New York Times featured a “36 Hours” travel column on Sarasota. The reporter began her 36-hour journey at 4 p.m. on a Friday and made several stops at key locations in between mainland destinations. By 7 p.m., she was at Euphemia Haye, where she wrote that diners shouldn’t pass up the fried-green-tomato fusion. On Saturday, she had a waterside lunch at the Old Salty Dog on City Island, paid Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium’s famed manatees, Hugh and Buffett, a visit and strolled St. Armands Circle. She returned to the Circle for breakfast on Sunday at Blue Dolphin Café. She wrote that the Longboat Key Hilton Beachfront Resort “is an ideal setting right on the Longboat Key beach.”
