SLOWCRAFT PRESENTS TWO SINGULAR VOICES 14TH DECEMBER 6.30PM
The Muse Gallery will host an evening of curated live music on Saturday 14th December 2019 featuring performances from celebrated, genre-defying songstresses Riz Maslen (aka Neotropic) and Anne Garner. This heavyweight double bill presents a rare opportunity to experience the magic of two truly unique voices in intimate surroundings. Riz Maslen has been frustrating categorisation ever since her sophisticated beats and breaks albums with Ninja Tune sister label Ntone in the 90s paralleled a long-running vocal partnership with ambient pioneers The Future Sound Of London. The Wire observed that her 2018 Slowcraft Records debut The Absolute Elsewhere felt “born more from a spectral entity than a human being” and there’s no doubting the otherworldly intensity of Riz’s darkly exotic oeuvre. Attendees will discover how this singular producer, vocalist and electronic innovator melds psychedelic folk, post-techno and vocal virtuosity into a richly personal modern mythology quite unlike anything else out there. Anne Garner’s elegant, sparsely lyrical music is possessed of an uncommon tenderness, both sorrowful and sanguine in equal measure. Her voice, piano and flute weave folk, electroacoustic and chamber classical into intimate arrangements that provide solace to open hearts and leave lasting personal impressions. Trusting a Twirled World (2011), Be Life (2015) and Lost Play (2018) are cornerstones of the Slowcraft catalogue and have firmly established her reputation as a composer and performer of unusually compassionate voice and vision. This rare live appearance will feature a number of performance debuts from her as yet unannounced upcoming album. Both sets will be accompanied by live surround visuals from The Muse’s own Damian Rayne and complemented by DJ selections from Home Normal boss and analogue demagogue Ian Hawgood.
