Business Chicks founder raising the bar pennie scott EMMA Isaacs’ vision is to eliminate the need for discussions on gender pay scales and women having to juggle their family’s needs around their work commitments. “We don’t want to live in a world where a Google Image search for ‘CEO’ yields pictures of only men or, where women need to work an additional 70 days a year to earn the same amount as men and where, in some workplaces, too many women are scared to ask for the pay rise they deserve,” she explained. Founder of the international movement, Business Chicks, Emma said the organisation exists to make the world a better place for women. “Leadership is for everyone, and, thanks to Brene Brown, vulnerability is now regarded as an important characteristic of being in a team and allowing it to be visible. This is telling the truth and it should not be hidden. “Fixing problems for everyone is not helpful, as experiential learning is the most powerful way to embed experiences,” Emma said. Women In Business Wagga are hosting Emma’s visit to Wagga, a destination on her tour launching her book, Winging it. The well-known quote; “The older you get, the more you realise that no one has a bloody clue what they’re doing; everyone’s just winging it.” – UNKNOWN, is the basis for Emma’s wisdom, citing many examples of first-time events for everybody. “Here’s the thing though,” Emma said, “No-one really knows what they’re doing. No matter how much they’re giving off the illusion of control and calm, at some level they’re making it up as they go along, just like the rest of us.” Steve Jobs had never created a phone until Apple developed the iPhone. Dame Quentin Bryce had never been Governor-General before she started, and Arianna Huffington had never run a news organisation before she pressed Go on The Huffington Post. “I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know women from Wagga and the region at the event at The Rules Club onTuesday 14 August and encouraging anyone who may be held back by a fear to

jump off the cliff and find their wings. The view will never be more exciting,” Emma said. “During the event, I’ll be challenging self-limiting beliefs, discuss the role of playing leader in their world and have the belief within yourself to do the impossible.” Emma’s favourite leadership figures include Alistair Clarkson, coach of the Hawthorn Football Club and the longest serving AFL coach, and iconic fashion designer, Diane Von Furstenberg, who Emma says has reinvented herself over and over. Emma and her family moved from Australia to California three years ago and she travels regularly to inspire and challenge women to shatter self-limiting beliefs and to set lofty goals. From humble beginnings, Business Chicks is now Australia’s largest and most influential community for women believing that every woman is capable of achieving amazing things, but know sometimes this can’t be done alone. And that’s where Business Chicks comes in. Despite the name, it’s not just for women in business or women who own their own businesses. Business Chicks is about helping all women play a bigger game. Whether running their own show surrounded by others in an office, or just missing a sense of connection and support, Business Chicks is about giving the tools needed to propel women forward. Every day, Business Chicks works tirelessly in public and behind the scenes to represent and support members, and to give them the tools, connections and experiences they need to lead a bold life and show young women and girls they can be what they can see. When a member of Business Chicks, there’s not just one woman who has your back, there are thousands. Bookings to meet Emma Isaacs and see the first screening of the 2018 series Hear Them Roar are available at www. womeninbusinesswagga.org.au or ‘phone President, Naomi Miller, on 0411 255 198.
