IT EMS YOU SHOULD

NEVER LEAVE

at the op-shop By Katrina Chambers Who doesn’t love a bit of op-shopping and trawling through second-hand stores. It is true that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure and, with a bit of creativity and a lick of paint, anything old can look new again. Turning second hand items into new pieces for your home is an effective and creative way to fill that corner you weren’t sure what to do with.

COCKTAIL GLASSES FROM LONG AGO Remember those beautiful, textured and glamorous cocktail glasses your grandma used to have? Maybe it was a whisky glass or champagne flute. With the return of the bar cart, everyone is in search of exquisite glassware to display. And your local op-shop is where you’re going to find them. The best bit is they are far more durable than the lookalikes you buy today.

RIVERINA WEEKLY REAL ESTATE | PAGE 9

WEEKLY INTERIORS MID-CENTURY CHAIRS Look past the dated fabric and look for a solid frame with little to no wear. Fabric can be replaced so keep an eye for a piece that really stands out. If you score a bargain here, you’ll never regret it. A stunning statement chair could be all that’s needed in a forgotten corner in your home.

TIMBER FURNITURE If you don’t mind spending a weekend sanding, painting and varnishing, second-hand timber furniture can be a great find. You want to look for unique pieces; something a little bit different. With a lick of paint, new handles and drawer knobs, you will end up with a stunning and unique piece of furniture for a fraction of the price of something new.

CANE BEDHEADS… ANYTHING CANE, REALLY Cane is making a huge comeback from plant stands, bedheads, bed side tables, shelving – the list goes on. If you are lucky to spot a piece of cane furniture, ensure it is in great condition, (or can be easily repaired, and snap it up. Even if cane is not your thing, try selling it on your local buy swap and sell page, I can almost guarantee a profit.

PICTURE FRAMES Ignore the painting and look at the frame because you can easily pop the canvas out and replace it with something you love. Again, a good sanding and maybe some paint and, you can easily have an affordable some new artwork for your walls.

Causes of

TOMORROW

PROJECTS By Inspirations Paint Wagga

Sadly, not every paint project that is started is completed and, worse still, some projects never actually begin. These projects that you aim to start or finish really soon end up becoming, Tomorrow Projects. Do you have a Tomorrow Project at your place; a new bedroom with bare plasterboard walls, the replacement fence palings without a lick of paint, or the ceiling in the laundry that you scraped the loose paint off but never coated? As paint project lovers, this is a great tragedy to us. While we can’t prevent disasters such as these from happening, we can at least attempt to minimise how often paint projects get abandoned. We have, therefore, identified five reasons why paint projects turn into Tomorrow Projects. We’ve also offered some helpful advice to assist in overcoming these obstacles.

Out-Of-Sight, Out-Of-Mind It’s easy to forget half-finished paint project down the side of the house, up in the attic or in the backyard because it’s not in plain sight. We know you wouldn’t leave an eye-sore unpainted, but if you notice your friend’s place needs a lick of paint, be a true friend, don’t gossip behind their back about their half-painted travesty. Tell them to head into Inspirations Paint. In time, they’ll thank you for it.

Time These days, time is the most precious commodity and it’s no surprise that lack of time is the main culprit for unfinished projects. Plans change, schedules move and paint projects are often shunted to the lowest rung of the priority ladder. We understand that, kind of. To help get your Tomorrow Project off the ground, download the free Inspirations Paint –Paint Project Planner for 2018 to help minimise the time needed to spend on your paint project.

RIVERINA WEEKLY REAL ESTATE | PAGE 13

WEEKLY INSPIRATIONS

Colour Decisions If your Tomorrow Project is on hold because you got stuck into the planning but then became disoriented at the large array of colour options available. We understand. There are 200 different whites alone for your kitchen walls. We know you want them to have the right undertone so the room isn’t too cool nor to creamy and traditional. We get it. If the perfect colour scheme has caused your paint project to be abandoned before it began, we have the solution to end all of your colour woes. Brush-Out Boards. They are large, sturdy hand painted boards with the same texture as a painted wall, and the best part is, they are delivered straight to your door so you can test your colour options in various lighting conditions against your furniture and flooring.

Weather Weather is another big reason to put off a painting project and for good reason. A chance of rain is likely to stall just about any outdoor painting project. Even indoor projects can get left behind for the couch, a doona and a DVD when it’s drizzling outside. Extreme heat also is an enemy to your outdoor painting projects, with many people deterred from the thought of spending the day covered in sweat while battling the sun. But, the sun is the best condition for fast drying paint, which means you’ll get your project done faster. Simply follow the shade around your house to avoid the sun. And on warm days, to ensure your paint goes on smoothly, we recommend wetting the surface slightly with water before your first coat (if using water-based paints).

Home Blindness Sadly, many members of society suffer from a common condition known as Home Blindness. They simply can no longer see their Tomorrow Project because it has been sitting there unfinished or not begun for so long they’ve learned to...shock horror... live with it. These abhorrent scars on homes are visually jarring to visitors, but remain unseen to their owners. The cure. Set a date for a party at your place for your nearest and dearest, and this will motivate you to complete your Tomorrow Project. Then pop into your local Inspirations Paint store without delay so we can help you make it happen. Tomorrow Projects, start today. It’s time to earn back bragging rights to your own home and fall in love all over again with the results of a good paint project. If you have any questions please call in and see us at 16-20 Ashmont Avenue and speak to Allan, Tracy, Jenny, Dean or Rob. We are very happy to help.
