At a glittering awards ceremony held on the 30th of April at the Park Plaza Hotel in London, Designer Travel picked up three prestigious Agent Achievement Awards – the only national award ceremony designed to recognise excellence in the retail travel industry. NEW RECORDING STUDIO FOR LOCAL MUSICIANS Bananaphish Studios was born out of frustration of local musicians, Rod McCoy and Dean PNutt, at the lack of quality rehearsal space and affordable recording facilities in their hometown of Bury.

Rod says, “Musicians in general put a huge amount of time and money into just being musicians and Bananaphish Studios wants to provide a place where bands can get on with creating the next musical revolution and not worrying about where to practice or how they can possibly afford to record a demo”.

Bananaphish Studios just outside Bury Town Centre (situated in Pimhole Business Park); provides professional quality rehearsal rooms, secure car parking, equipment hire, storage and a studio (currently being built) for affordable recording sessions and pod casts.

Lessons and workshops covering most contemporary instruments will soon be offered both at Bananaphish Studios and in local schools.

AWARD EVENING FOR SEDGELY PARK RUGBY MINI’S

Sedgley Park Rugby Union Club Mini’s Section recently held their first ever Players’ Dinner at their clubhouse on Park Lane, Whitefield.

Boys and girls from the Under 7s to the Under 12s enjoyed a fun evening together which included a rugby quiz, listening to motivational speakers and being entertained by a table magician. Awards were presented to the longest serving players and at the end of the evening all players went onto the 1st XV pitch for a balloon race.

Colette Stevens who, together with the other team mangers, helped to organise the event says ‘The evening was designed to create a fun, social occasion for both the players and the parents of the section and, at the same time, to bring all the mini’s teams together and raise their profile within the club. All the players were given a new club tie to wear on the evening donated by our Claret and Gold Association which is made up of ex Sedgely Park players. The evening was a great success and we hope to make this an annual event. Our thanks go to everyone at the club who helped and to all our sponsors for their contributions’.

evening and play matches on a Sunday morning. All coaches have a minimum of RFU Level 1 Coaching Award and work within the RFU Child Safeguarding Policy. All team managers and coaches are CRB checked. The players begin by playing 4 a side non contact ‘tag rugby’ in the Under 7s and move through the transitional stages to full contact and 15 a side by the time they reach the Under 12s. The club also hosts ‘Rugby Tots’ on a Saturday morning for children aged 2 to 4 years old.

The Victoria sponge is a wonderful classic recipe traditionally filled with strawberry jam and cream but this is a great basic recipe for you to experiment with using different jam’s, fillings and fruits such as blueberries, raspberries & strawberries which are currently in season so add these for a summer fruit feel or keep it classic whatever suits your taste!

Ingredients For the cake 200g of Castor Sugar 200g of Softened Butter or Margarine 4 Medium eggs (room temperature) 200 g Self Raising Flour 1 tsp Baking Powder 1tsp Vanilla extract 2 tbsp milk For the Filling Whipped Cream or Buttercream (recipe below) Strawberry Jam Dusting of Icing sugar Method • Heat the oven to 190 C/Fan 170 C/ Gas Mark 5 line with baking parchment and butter 2 x 20cm sandwich tins. Cream together the margarine or butter with sugar then slowly add the beaten eggs, the vanilla extract and the milk. Sift the flour and baking powder and fold gently into liquid mixture.

If your prefer to use a mixer all in one method can be used which basically means put all the ingredients into the bowl mix slowly at first then set you mixer to a higher speed to bring all the

ingredients to a smooth consistency.

• Distribute the mixture evenly between the 2 sandwich tins, smooth the surface with a spatula and pop in the oven for approximately 20-25 mins, cook until golden and the top of the cake springs back to touch.

• Turn the cakes onto a cool rack.

• When the cakes are fully cooled spread the Jam on the bottom layer and top with the whipped cream. Do not be tempted to decorate to cake when still warm, the cream will melt and slide from the cake!!

WATERING The idea of what constitutes a good summer varies greatly according to one’s interests, and the average child or beach lover is happy with bright sun every day but gardeners and farmers crave a bit of moderation.

If the theories about global warming and warmer summers are to be believed, perhaps we should consider growing more plants that are happier in drier, more Mediterranean conditions rather than our traditional cottage garden varieties.

Many grey or silver- leaved plants are a good example. Think about lavenders, rosemary, cistus, many ornamental grasses, bamboo and herbs.

Concentrate on salad crops to keep lettuce and radish etc. crisp and don’t worry so much about crops and plants with deeper roots. If you can catch rainwater in a water butt or

FIAT 500L Trekking The Fiat 500L Trekking combines a fashionable look with special grip gadgetry called Traction+, which helps the car handle difficult and dicey surfaces.

Under conditions of low or zero traction, the system detects slip, making it easy to maintain directional stability and control. The car is slow and cumbersome to begin with, but the technology certainly inspires confidence during bad driving conditions.

If you’re concerned about the wellbeing of you and your passengers then the Fiat will certainly tick your box. It’s one of the safest motors on the road today, as demonstrated by its prestigious Euro NCAP 5-star rating. In fact the 500L Trekking is the first car in the Fiat range to provide City Brake Control as standard. This system is designed to reduce the effects of low-speed collision in traffic.
