Welcome to the February 2014 edition of Your Child in Whittlesea!

I hope you have all had an enjoyable holiday season and have come back refreshed and ready for another year. This year, we are starting a new section in our magazine, What’s On in Whittlesea, which will be replacing and extending our previous Community Noticeboard. If you have a FREE community event or a volunteer run organisation that provides a service to the community, please feel free to e-mail info@yourchildinwhittlesea.com.au with relevant information (ie. days, dates, location, description and contact details) and space permitting, we would be happy to include these in our listing.

Another exciting new announcement for 2014. We are offering a FREE online subscription service to our electronic version of Your Child in Whittlesea to all our readers! SCHOOL OF THE MONTH Ivanhoe Grammar School is committed to offering a range of learning opportunities and developing individual students' talents. As part of this commitment the School offers a range of scholarships such as Academic Scholarships and FO Watts General Excellence Awards.

Academic Scholarships are offered to students entering Year 7 and Year 10. The FO Watts General Excellence Awards are awarded to students entering Year 7 or Year 10 on the basis of sound academic potential, demonstrated leadership skills, recognised citizenship qualities and a particular talent in one or more of the following areas: visual arts, music, performing arts or sports.

As Director of Admissions and Community Engagement, Paul Walsh explained, “The idea behind the Ivanhoe Grammar School Scholarship Program is to create opportunities for talented students to attend the School, who may not necessarily be in a position to afford full fees. Our most popular offering is the FO Watts General Excellence Award which acknowledges students who are academically strong, but also have proven leadership talents and strengths in various co-curricular areas. Through the application process, we are able to find out a lot about the candidates and they can ask plenty of questions about the School as well.�
