Happy Summer!

I can't believe we are at the end of another year! I hope it has been a good year for you filled with laughter and happiness. We've had a great year but I'm looking forward to a break over Christmas, spending some time outside with the boys, and hopefully getting to the beach for a swim.

We have a massive issue for you this month. Some great articles to get you prepared for the 6 weeks of holidays ahead and if you plan on travelling, there are some great ways to cope with long car trips.

Get cooking with the kids and make Jacqui's Blackberry Swirl Yoghurt Icy-poles, and then try out some of your own creations with your favourite berry or mix of berries!

We’ve been to many parks in Whitehorse over the last few years, so we’ve put together a list of some of our faves for you to enjoy, check out page 20 for all the details.

This month we thought it would be handy to provide you with a list of our favourite parks in Whitehorse that we've reviewed over the years. We are very lucky to have such a great range of fun and unique places to play.

This list will hopefully come in handy during the summer holidays!

Victoria Rose Reserve Between Victoria & Rose St, Box Hill Brightly coloured main play area with fenced off exploratory sensory garden.

Artists Park Prince St, Box Hill South A climber's paradise, knock yourself out with so many ways to climb.

Surrey Dive Park Standard Ave, Box Hill A long time fave of ours, this park offers two playgrounds, giant slide, BBQ and toilet facilities and lake complete with model boats (Wednesdays and Sundays).

Halliday Park 310 Mitcham Rd, Mitcham A great park for a birthday party with ample picnic tables, BBQ and toilet facilities. There is a toddler playground plus heaps of interesting stuff for the older kids. Make sure you check out the water play on a hot day.

Wattle Park Riversdale Rd, Burwood Historic buildings, heritage trams, two wooden playgrounds and over 10,000 wattle trees. What more could you ask for?

Elgar Park Belmore Rd, Box Hill North Team a visit to this park with a ride on the miniature trains at the Box Hill Miniature Steam Railway right next door.

Antonio Park 55 Deep Creek Rd, Mitcham Plenty of space for a party or playdate with BBQ and toilet facilities. Playground equipment is bright and there is space for ball games.

What’s cooking Blackberry swirl yoghurt icy-poles Jacqui Ackland, MasterChef Contestant Series 7

Makes: 6 icy-poles Ingredients ¾ cup blackberries (fresh or frozen) 2 tbs caster sugar 500g natural yoghurt 1 tbs maple syrup

Prep time: 20mins

Crumble mix ½ cup oats 2 tbs brown sugar 2 tbs unsalted butter 1 tbs plain flour

Method 4 Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius and

line a tray with baking paper.

4 For crumble, mix all ingredients together

in a bowl using hands to combine, breaking up butter with fingers.

4 Spread onto tray and bake for 5 minutes

or so until toasted. Allow to cool.

4 For icy poles, first place blackberries into

a small pot with the caster sugar. Cook over low heat until berries break down.

Blitz with a stick mixer then cool.

4 Place yoghurt and maple syrup in a bowl

and mix. Tip blackberry mixture in. Using a spoon, gently swirl through the yoghurt. Be careful not to overmix or you will lose the 'swirl' effect.

4 Pour into icy-pole moulds and top with

crumble mix. Freeze for at least 4 hours.

Enjoy!

You can make the recipe your own by trying your favourite berry or a mix of berries!
