Manningham Hello and welcome to October 2017. What a wonderful start to the Spring season, I am really enjoying seeing all the flowers bloom and the season changing before my eyes.

The second half of September was such a busy month for me with school holidays in full swing and with only a few months left till Christmas I can already feel the pressure of the upcoming holiday season.

At the end of this month we celebrate Halloween. This American tradition has quickly become a major day to enjoy with your kids on the Australian calendar. This October you can get the kids dressed in Halloween costumes and enjoy trick or treat. On page 33 I have some suggestions where you can take the kids to Trick or Treat.

As the weather is warming up there tends to be more festivals , fetes and celebrations.

One fun filled festival for us to enjoy is Oktoberfest. On the 28th of October why not get along to Warrandyte CafĂŠ TO 10am to 5pm, where there is free entertainment for the kids while you enjoy the great atmosphere and listening to a live band details page 9. Also on Saturday the 14th of October Holly Redeemer Primary school in Surrey Hills is having a fun filled Foodies Festival with rides, live music and entertainment don't forget all the yummy food you can try details on page 27.

There are so many great events coming up over the next month. On the 13th of October there is the Mayoral Ball which is a very important fundraiser, Manningham City Council has partnered with headspace Hawthorn to facilitate the introduction of youth mental health outreach service to our community. It's important for young people to create genuine friendships and have a purpose in our community.

This year's Manningham Community Mayoral Ball will be dedicated to raising funds to establish this service in Manningham. http://www.manningham.vic.gov.au/mayoral-ball This months front cover is provided by Spunkz Management the model is Jett McIllwain.

How long has the centre been in business? Cuddly Bear has been opened since 1999, opera ng as a privately owned child care and kindergarten for 18 years.

What makes Cuddly Bear different to other Child Care/Kinders in our area? Each child enrolled at Cuddly Bear has the right to posi ve experiences throughout their childhood. Our philosophy is to provide a safe, happy, secure and s mula ng environment for the children which encourage a posi ve a tude towards learning.

At Cuddly Bear we provide a variety of extra ac vi es for children enrolled including weekly swimming lessons at our adjacent swim centre, weekly sports program called “Kelly Sports” and fun music and movement classes through HeyDeeHo Music.

Are the educators open to ques ons and concerns from parents? Open communica on with families is an aspect we pride ourselves on as we know the importance of partnerships with families. Families gain daily/weekly wri en and verbal communica on; you will also receive individual detailed learning por olios.

We also have parent-educator mee ngs. Families are encouraged to be involved in our daily program, such as reading stories to children, sharing languages or just pop into play.

Are they available to speak when you drop-off and pick up your child? Yes!! We ensure primary educators are always available for families to communicate at pick up and drop off mes each day.

Can I bring my child in for a pre-enrolment visit? We invite parents, families, children and the community to tour our centre at any me. We encourage families to bring their child along with them so they can have a play and meet their educators. Your child will be offered three orienta on days prior to commencement.

What qualifica ons do your educators have? Our dedicated educators hold a range of early childhood qualifica ons Cer ficate 3/Diploma in children services as well as Bachelor of Early childhood educa on, with many of our educators further developing their skills and training.

Are educators CPR/first-aid cer fied? Yes, all our educators have their up to date first aid qualifica ons including Anaphylaxis training, Asthma Management and CPR training, we update this annually.

Do you have a comfortable, safe indoor/outdoor play area where babies can safely explore and develop physical skills? Yes, all the children enrolled are provided with a safe and healthy environment, Younger children (under 2s) have their own separate outdoor play area to roll, walk, explore, crawl and just have fun on a daily basis.

For toddlers and Kinders, Do you have invi ng and well-defined areas for different kinds of ac vi es (art, music, blocks and toys, quiet reading, etc.)? Each child's interests are met each day they a end Cuddly Bear, your child may like to choose to engage in many invi ng ac vi es set up by our experienced educators for example, art area, block area, imagina ve play, book , quiet corner and many more. We have 4 separate aesthe cally pleasing rooms for children to engage in based on your child's age as well as their developmental stage. Babies, Toddler, Pre-Kinder and Kindergarten.

What are the cleaning and sani sing prac ces? How o en are carpets and toys cleaned? This is very important in an environment where many children spend their days. Cuddly Bear has professional cleaning services each evening, and our carpet/flooring cleaning is completed regularly. Detailed cleaning checklists of our environment and toys are also adhered to daily.

Do you have a sign-in and sign-out sheet? To meet our regula ons families are required to sign in and out their children each day, we have made this quick and easy with our NEW digital Kiosks.

ART FIRST DECORATE SECOND Now I am not an interior designer, however I have spent years studying colours, shapes & patterns. I do believe that most colours come from nature and can inuence design in so many ways, from the entire building spectrum, to a special piece of furniture.

Decorating a room is time consuming, from searching online for endless colour schemes and most importantly from choosing the right piece of art for your room.

Have you ever thought of making the piece of art that you choose be the hero of your room? Not the couch or cushions, but the artwork? This is usually the rst thing you notice when you enter a room.

Most of the time we shop for art, and we treat it as an afterthought, or we leave it until we can match it with a piece of furniture or a cushion. This can often lead to tearing our hair out, as it can be so hard to nd a piece of art that will perfectly match your interior, due to colour, tone & hue variations.

Sometimes our decorating life can be made easier, by choosing a colour scheme for our room and then a painting to t the wall space we want to decorate.

There are a few ways we can do this. You can either spend hours searching for a painting online or by visiting numerous galleries, but the simplest way to go about this is to get a piece of art commissioned by one of your favourites artists. This way you have the perfect colour scheme to decorate with and the painting can be made perfectly to t your wall space.

Another positive by choosing a commissioned piece is that you can also choose the frame colour and style you are after. How great is that?!

We are so lucky that by living in Australia, there are so many talented artists to choose from and that are willing to work around the colours you personally select.
