Editors Notice Board Welcome to May 2013 we hope you have enjoyed the Easter Break and Term 1 holidays with your children. It seemed like the holiday period went so fast and here we are in Term 2. Now that we are all getting into the swing of term 2, it’s a great time to enrol your children into swimming at Westerfolds Sports Centre or tennis lessons with Slamin Tennis and Fitness or Little Tackers Tennis to keep them active.

Every Thursday you can enjoy a casual swim or play with your children at Westerfolds Aqua Play Mum's and Bub's sessions from 1pm to 3pm there is also a free bonus class during your Aqua Play Session. Another fun indoor activity is Mums and Bubs Sessions at Village Cinemas.

EDITORIAL - BUSINESS OF THE MONTH ANGELA’S WHIMSICAL CAKES My love for creating edible works of art probably steamed back to my art background. I studied visual arts painting & sculpture. I believe that cake decorating is art, I'm just using a different medium.

I was a stay at home mum and I was looking for a creative outlet. In the back of my mind, I knew that cake decorating was something I wanted to try. About 6 years ago, I took my first course. I couldn't stop. I feel in love with the craft. I was lucky enough to take courses with the notionally renowned Sydney cake company "Planet Cake" and I say lucky because they no long teach in Melbourne. I also took private lessons. As I made lots of cake for family and friends, my confidence built up.

Here I am now, I have my own business baking and decorating and teaching students privately.

I'm so lucky to be doing something I love.

In December 2012 my work was recognised by the worlds famous Queen of sweets (American sweet designer) Amy Atlas. She has done work for people like Oprah Winfrey, O magazine etc. My pig head cake was featured. (Amy Atlas Dec 6, 2012 Medieval Feast guest dessert feature).

I love making children's birthday cakes, they are my most grateful clients.

There is nothing like the smiles I get when they see their cake.

Here are some tips on choosing the perfect cake.

Cakes tend to be the main focus of the sweets table so its important that you choose the right cake.

The most important things that you need to take into consideration are theme and colours, and how big the cake needs to be to accommodate all of your guests.

Last but not least cake flavours. You should be able to choose from a range of flavours from the basic moist chocolate cake to soft and light white chocolate cakes.
