Hi & welcome to our November Issue!! Lockdown number 2 done - well almost!! As we all start to return to what use to be our normal it all feels quite surreal what we have all been through together. Now I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch but congratulations and here’s hoping that was last time for us here in Victoria. I think back to a conversation I had with a friend in February and we shook are heads in disbelief that we would ever be a lockdown let alone two!! Now the wait is on for our boarders to reopen. At this time of year our family usually takes a holiday and we had planned to go to Cairns. Our tickets were booked and as the date approached sadly we had to cancel - like so many other families too! A holiday closer to home is on the cards instead with camping and fishing high on the wish list and the kids can’t wait! After spending so much time inside over the last few months we have chosen some articles that will either spark a little fun or help your family. A couple of my favourites are “Climbing Trees” pg 12 - something that we should be encouraging our kids to do more of (safely of course) and “The Benefits of Lego” pg 22. Lego never gets old and is still used with at our home by kids young and old! We’ve also revisited one of the playgrounds that was revamped by the Banyule Council last year in Bellfield. It’s so lovely being able to go to a playground again with the weather being warmer now too. We also have a letter to Santa that you can download from our website if your children are anything like mine the talk of lists has already started! So as we slowly start to return to our new normal its been amazing seeing how we have all stuck together. Established local business trying new things with the support of our community. Out and About

FORD PARK Oriel Road BELLFIELD Donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t you love it when something old is made new again! That's whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s happened in Bellfield at this playground - and what a fantastic space the Banyule Council has created with this total upgrade. I also found out that the old playground was dismantled, packed up and donated to Ski Lanka by the Rotary Club of Ivanhoe. The new setting is very different to the old with hardly any plastic in sight giving the feeling of playing in nature and I imagine this will evolve over time as the plants surrounding it grow. Its also really spacious with many areas to sit and watch on as the children venture throughout the area. The main structure is made up of two towers joined by a rope bridge. Each side has slides, one

enclosed and two lower side by side, plus rope climbing walls, monkey bars and shop windows underneath for some imaginary play. There is also swing sets, a large spinner for lots little people to enjoy, suspended and web robe frames, stepping stones made from tree stumps and rocks plus music makers of metal for tapping and banging. Another highlight is the scooter track that has humps and little inclines all circling around a grass centre patch. This seemed to be very popular with little and big kids all cruising around the circuit. Completed with two covered BBQ areas I think it could be the perfect spot for a birthday party or a fun family dinner. Let me now what you think?

MOTHERS HELPING MOTHERS WITH POSTNATAL DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY Have you previously experienced postnatal depression or anxiety? Are you interested in providing support to new mothers at risk of postnatal depression or anxiety? Approximately 1 in 5 of new mothers suffer from postnatal depression and/or anxiety and many do not receive the support they require. To help these new mothers, researchers from the La Trobe University are conducting a study called “DAISY – Depression & AnxIety peer Support studY”. This study consists of experienced mothers who have previously experienced postnatal depression or anxiety offering mother-to-mother telephone support to new mothers who are at high-risk to develop postnatal depression or anxiety. We are seeking peer support volunteers who have previously experienced (and recovered from) postnatal depression or anxiety. To become a “peer support volunteer” you will need to attend a 4-hour on-line video training session to learn how to provide telephone support. 2 bananas 2 eggs 1/2 cup rolled oats 1/2 teaspoon baking powder pinch of salt Optional topping to serve: - maple syrup to serve - sliced fresh fruit such as banana or strawberries - frozen berries (warmed)

Method 1. Using a blender combine the banana, eggs, oats, baking powder and salt. 2. Blend until mixture is the smooth consistency you like - making sure all ingredients are combined. Leave the batter to stand for around 15 minutes until it thickens slightly. 3. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. 4. Fry spoonfuls of the batter until golden brown on both sides. 5. Serve with a drizzle of maple syrup and fruit of your choice.
