This keynote illustrates the power of friendship in the recruitment process, while having a blast along the way, with entertaining real life experiences and tangible tips and tricks you can use for the rest of your life.

If you are new to an officer position this semester then this is the session for you. Take advantage of the opportunity to meet fellow “new officers,” learn campus resources and how to maneuver through campus whether it be for scheduling meetings, planning events, recruiting new members or simply discussing fundraising opportunities. This session will cover a myriad of topics relating to the leaders of the organization while touching on the importance of effective recruitment and keeping ALL members motivated!

Self Care Location: James Gallery Katie Stephen, Clinical Counselor, Student Counseling Services

You have risen to where you are now because you are driven and determined to have a positive impact, but what are you doing for you so that you can perform and show up as the best version of you? It can be difficult to take care of others if you don’t care for yourself as well. We will discuss the importance of self-care, challenge misconceptions of what self-care looks like, and do a self-care assessment to explore new ways to add self-care to your life.

Understanding Financial Appropriations Location: Ohio Room Dominic Rodino, Vice President of Financial Affairs, Student Government Association

This presentation will help student leaders understand the rules and procedures regarding Financial Appropriations from the Student Government Association. Additionally, we will discuss the necessary qualifications to receive funding, the application process, and how to use your funding appropriately. This session will also inform student leaders of important components of the Financial Path as they relate to their student organization and how to take advantage of the opportunities funding can provide for your group’s success. Organizations planning to apply for SGA funding should send a representative to one of SGA’s Funding Sessions.

This session will show you our online registration and organization community system. Take advantage of this opportunity to see how the system can track your membership, send out e-mails, post events, generate potential new members and the many other features that this web-based program offers.

This workshop will focus on professional development. You will learn what professional development is, why it is important, and the different resources on campus that can assist you in the process. Graduate students will share some of their experiences throughout the presentation.

This presentation will cover active listening and mediation skills to help student leaders work through conflicts within their organization. Students will be given the chance to practice these skills by applying what they’ve learned to mock conflict situations.

In the Spring of 2021, YSU first-year and senior students participated in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) to share their thoughts on their experiences as a Penguin. Homecoming WeekEND October 7-9 LIghts, camera, penguins!

ROYALTY VOTING: Voting for this year’s Homecoming Royalty will take place on Tuesday, September 21 and Wednesday, September 22. You can vote either online or in person in Kilcawley Center.

2021 homecoming royalty Nominations Due September 12 Student organizations are invited to nominate for this honor. Ten finalists will be selected as the Homecoming Court.

Criteria for all candidates: 1. Must be nominated by a registered student organization. 2. Must be in good standing both academically and in student conduct. 3. Must have attended YSU for two consecutive semesters. 4. Must be a current full-time student. 5. As of Monday, August 30, 2021, must be enrolled for Fall Semester, full-time, in good standing and have completed 60 or more total hours.

WE WANT YOUR STUDENT ORGANIZATION TO MAKE A FLOAT FOR THE HOMECOMING PARADE! It will take place at 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 9. The parade is a campus tradition, so your participation will play a vital role to the event’s success During this year’s Homecoming game our Penguins play host to Missouri Valley Conference foe Missouri State at Stambaugh Stadium. Kick off is slated for 2:00 pm. To enter the parade, or painting contest or for more information regarding homecoming week, visit the official homecoming website at ysu.edu/homecoming

DeBartolo Stadium Club Located at the top of Stambaugh Stadium on YSU’s campus, the facility is 12 stories up and faces western horizon. • • • •

It will seat for 200 attendees with 8 per table. Full capacity does not allow for items requiring extra space such as a dance floor. Room is carpeted and color scheme is dark (plum and mauve). Hours of Operation: 7:00 a.m. - 12:00 Midnight (Evening events must end by Midnight)

No rental fee for student organizations or campus departments, but a security fee may be added depending on the event. Student organizations are not permitted to have alcohol at events in the Stadium Club. To reserve the space a DeBartolo Stadium Club Facility Reservation and Equipment Request Form MUST be submitted. KILCAWLEY CENTER Booking a Space: As a member of a registered student organization, you can come to the Staff Offices in Kilcawley Center (located on the second floor) to fill out a Meeting Room Request or Table Request form. Additionally, you can go online to kc.ysu.edu and complete the form to reserve space Event has to be booked 48 hours in advance. The office cannot accommodate any requests less than 48 hours in advance. Building Hours for Semester: Monday-Thursday: 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM Friday: 7:00 AM – 9:00 PM Saturday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM Sunday: 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM Hours can fluctuate during breaks and during the summer semester. YSU Police and Security Fees: Events which are held at night (usually after 8 PM), are large-scale, feature alcohol, are open to the public, or have any sort of money collection (either at the door or through third-party vendors) will generally have a security fee to pay. The Staff Offices will work with YSU Police Department on security fee. Once our office is notified of fee, we will notify you of your fee. The security fee is due no later than two weeks prior to your event. Failure to pay can result in cancellation of your event! Food Service at Your Event: You can check out the variety of options by going online to dineoncampus.com/ysu or by contacting Carissa Renninger at 330-941-1979 to set up an appointment. Please note: Outside food is not allowed to be brought into the building for your event. Ignoring this rule could result in loss of your privileges to reserve space in Kilcawley Center!

Hazing means doing any act or coercing another, including the victim, to do any act of initiation into any student or other organization or any act to continue or reinstate membership in or affiliation with any student or other organization that causes or creates a substantial risk of causing mental or physical harm to any person, including coercing another to consume alcohol or a drug of abuse, as defined in section 3719.011 of the Revised Code.

WHAT IS COLLIN’S LAW? On July 6, 2021, Governor Mike DeWine signed Ohio’s Anti Hazing

Act, known as Collin’s Law. It enacts a number of changes intended to end hazing and any cultural issues that allow hazing to persist. The law is named for Collin Wiant, an Ohio college student who died as a victim of a hazing incident.YSU has developed a 20-minute online training course to educate campus to Recognize and Prevent Hazing. All YSU students are required to complete this course prior to joining a student organization or university program. This includes fraternities, sororities, club sports, Student Government, Student Media, Marching Pride, theater, music ensembles, athletics, the Honors College, and all registered student organizations. Students who are already members of these groups are also required to complete the training.

The deadline to complete this course is October 6, 2021.
