Si nos detenemos a reflexionar sobre el futuro, es natural que la mente divague hacia la tecnología y sus avances vertiginosos. Sin embargo, ¿qué tal si proponemos una visión diferente? Imagina un mañana donde el turismo se convierte en un retorno a nuestras raíces, un reencuentro con la naturaleza. Este cambio de paradigma es más que una posibilidad, es una necesidad urgente que la experiencia postpandemia nos ha dejado claro. El estrés y ritmo incansable de las ciudades hizo replantear nuestras prioridades y el apartarse de esta realidad ha servido para mejorar el estilo de vida y la salud mental y física.

Es en este contexto que el turismo ecológico surge como la única alternativa viable. Desde la creación de la Organización Mundial del Turismo en 1970, se ha reconocido la importancia económica de esta industria, pero ahora se hace evidente que su viabilidad a largo plazo depende de su sostenibilidad. Los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible nos marcan el camino, y la declaración de Glasgow, firmada en 2021, establece metas concretas para reducir las emisiones y convertir al turismo en un motor de conservación.

¿Cómo podemos contribuir a este cambio? La iniciativa «Súmate al viaje 2030» nos ofrece pautas claras: erradicar plásticos de un solo uso, optar por energías renovables en la industria hotelera y fomentar la integración social entre turistas y comunidades locales. Como viajeros, podemos hacer nuestra parte: visitar reservas naturales, reducir nuestra huella de carbono y apoyar a la economía local.

Colombia se alza como un protagonista en este escenario. Sus paisajes deslumbrantes y su rica biodiversidad ofrecen un telón de fondo ideal para el turismo sostenible. Desde iniciativas locales hasta políticas gubernamentales, el país está en camino de convertirse en un referente global en el turismo del futuro. Es responsabilidad de todos impulsar este cambio, garantizando la protección de nuestro entorno y construyendo un mañana más prometedor para las generaciones venideras.

If we pause to reflect on the future, it is natural for the mind to wander to technology and its dizzying advances. However, what if we propose a different vision? Imagine a tomorrow where tourism becomes a return to our roots, a reunion with nature. This paradigm shift is more than a possibility; it is an urgent necessity that the post-pandemic experience has made clear to us. The stress and relentless pace of the cities made us rethink our priorities, and getting away from this reality has served to improve our lifestyle and our mental and physical health.

In this context, ecotourism emerges as the only viable alternative. Since the creation of the World Tourism Organization in 1970, the economic importance of this industry has been recognized. However, it is now evident that its long-term viability depends on its sustainability. The Sustainable Development Goals are leading the way, and the Glasgow Declaration, signed in 2021, sets concrete targets for reducing emissions and making tourism a driver of conservation.

How can we contribute to this change? The “Join the Journey 2030” initiative offers us clear guidelines: eradicate single-use plastics, opt for renewable energy in the hospitality industry, and encourage social integration between tourists and local communities. As travelers, we can do our part: visit nature reserves, reduce our carbon footprint, and support the local economy.

Colombia stands out as a protagonist in this scenario. Its stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity provide an ideal backdrop for sustainable tourism. From local initiatives to government policies, the country is on its way to becoming a global benchmark in the tourism of the future. It is everyone’s responsibility to drive this change, ensuring the protection of our environment and building a brighter tomorrow for generations to come.

Un destino imprescindible en Colombia

En medio de la exuberante diversidad que caracteriza a Colombia, la región de Curití, en el departamento de Santander, se alza como un tesoro por descubrir para los viajeros más exigentes. Recientemente, Colombia ha ganado terreno como un destino de primer nivel para el turismo internacional, y Curití, con su encanto singular, contribuye de manera significativa a este éxito.

Rodeado de hermosos paisajes, Curití es el lugar perfecto para los que aman la naturaleza y la aventura. Desde sus grandes montañas hasta sus ríos caudalosos y cascadas de agua cristalina, la región ofrece una variedad de actividades al aire libre como caminatas, rafting y observación de aves.

Curití

Curití es un pequeño y fresco pueblo del Cañón del Chicamocha, rico en biodiversidad, costumbres ancestrales, cultura y tradición. Es conocido por sus habitantes como “la tierra de las brumas y los atardeceres”; también por ser la cuna del poeta romántico Ismael Enrique Arciniegas, considerado el precursor del florecimiento intelectual de Santander.

Es posible que cuando llegues a su parque principal, tranquilo, limpio y organizado, difícilmente alcances a sospechar que más allá del casco urbano se esconden numerosos atractivos que te invitan a explorar en lo profundo de la naturaleza. Cuevas, caídas de agua y monolitos que hacen parte de la larga lista de lugares que puedes visitar en Curití, bello destino del Cañón del Chicamocha.

Y es que, además, en Curití el arte, la imaginación y la creatividad se llevan en la sangre y se tejen, hebra a hebra, en piezas artesanales hechas con fique y llenas de colores vibrantes que han convertido a este municipio en tierra de artesanos. Curití is a small and fresh town in the Chicamocha Canyon, rich in biodiversity, ancestral customs, culture, and tradition. It is known by its inhabitants as “the land of mists and sunsets”; also, for being the birthplace of the romantic poet Ismael Enrique Arciniegas, considered the precursor of the intellectual flowering of Santander.

It is possible that when you arrive at its main park, quiet, clean and organized, you will hardly suspect that beyond the urban center there are numerous attractions that invite you to explore the depths of nature. El agutí o picure

Permítenos hablarte un poco acerca del picure, también conocido como agutí negro o ñeque, es una riqueza de la fauna sudamericana que brilla con su presencia en la selva amazónica. Desde el sur y el oeste de Venezuela hasta el oriente de Colombia, Ecuador, Perú y el oeste de Brasil, este pequeño roedor de la familia Dasyproctidae encuentra su hogar en tierras santandereanas, siendo Curití uno de los lugares favoritos, pues, siempre busca lugares por debajo de los 1.000 metros sobre el nivel del mar.

Su presencia es relativamente mediana, con un cuerpo que oscila entre los 54 y 76 cm de largo, y una cola que añade entre 2 y 4 cm más, el picure es un sobreviviente de la naturaleza, por su carne, a la que se le atribuyen algunas propiedades, ha sido perseguido y gracias a las políticas de prohibición de la caza, se ha logrado mantener y su número ha venido en aumento. Su pelaje, tiene una gran variedad de tonos, va desde el negro grisáceo en la parte superior, hasta tonos castaños, amarillos y blancos en las partes inferiores.

Además de su impresionante apariencia, el picure tiene un estilo de vida muy particular. Activo en las horas crepusculares y nocturnas, su dieta se compone principalmente de frutos, especialmente los de las palmas, aunque no desprecia semillas, algunas hierbas y tubérculos. Su capacidad de adaptación es asombrosa, incluso frente a los cambios introducidos por el ser humano.

La vida familiar del picure es igualmente particular. Con dos partos al año, cada hembra da a luz a dos crías en cada alumbramiento. Viven en manadas y según la investigación hecha por John Eisenberg y Redford Kent en 2000, los grupos son matriarcales y tienen un territorio fijo, además sugieren que, dada la cercanía a los humanos, los animales podrían ser hasta cierto punto domesticables. Bueno, este no es el caso de Agustín, nuestro guía; él es el conocedor de las bellas tierras de Curití y en esta ocasión él quiere orientarte para que puedas visitar los mejores lugares de esta localidad y que puedas descubrir los tesoros que aguardan en Curití.

Let us introduce you to the picure, also known as the black agouti or ñeque, is a richness of the South American fau na that shines with its presence in the Amazon rainforest. From the southern and western of Venezuela to the eas tern of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and western Brazil, this small rodent of the Dasyproctidae family finds its home in the lands of Santander. Curití, in parti cular, is among its favored locations, as it tends below 1,000 meters above sea level.

Its presence is relatively medium, with a body that ranges between 54 and 76 cm long, and a tail that adds between 2 and 4 cm more, the picure is a survivor of nature, for its meat, to which some properties are attributed, it has been persecuted and thanks to the policies of prohibition of hunting, it has managed to maintain and its number has been increasing. Its coat has a great variety of shades, ranging from grayish black on the upper part, to brown, yellow and white shades on the lower parts.

In addition to its impressive appearance, the picure has a very particular lifestyle. Active during twilight and nocturnal hours, it primarily feeds on fruits, especially those of the palms, although it does not disdain seeds, some herbs and tubers. Remarkably adaptable, it adjusts well even to changes introduced by humans.

The family life of the picure is equally particular. With two births per year, each female gives birth to two young at each birth. They live in herds and according to research done by John Eisenberg and Redford Kent in 2000, the groups are matriarchal and have a fixed territory, and suggest that, given their proximity to humans, the animals may be tameable to some extent. La ruta “Travesía Picure” es una experiencia de inmersión en la esencia de Curití, Santander, diseñada para los amantes de la aventura y la cultura.

Esta travesía es ideal para exploradores de 20 a 40 años, y ofrece un viaje inolvidable por el corazón colonial y natural de Curití. Desde paseos por calles empedradas y arquitectura histórica hasta expediciones subterráneas en la Cueva de la Vaca, cada día está repleto de descubrimientos y emociones. Los visitantes se deleitarán con la gastronomía local en el Fogón de Loló, admirarán las artesanías elaboradas en fique en Ecofibras, y encontrarán serenidad en los paisajes naturales del Parque Natural El Santuario. La ruta culmina con un refrescante descanso en las piscinas naturales de Pescaderito y una celebración de logros en Coffee Pub. Con la gamificación como elemento clave, los exploradores recibirán insignias y obsequios, añadiendo un sentido de aventura y descubrimiento a su viaje por Curití.

Parque Central

El Parque Principal de Curití, ubicado frente al templo de San Joaquín, es un emblema histórico y cultural de la región. Su origen se remonta al periodo colonial español, cuando fue establecido como punto de encuentro y mercado para los habitantes locales. Para muchos incluso locales, la historia de este lugar pasa desapercibida a lo mejor por desconocimiento, pero con seguridad cuando escuches su historia descubrirás la magia de este lugar. A lo largo de los siglos, este espacio ha sido testigo de importantes eventos históricos y sociales, convirtiéndose en el corazón palpitante de la vida comunitaria.

Con el paso del tiempo, el Parque Principal de Curití ha evolucionado, adaptándose a las necesidades y gustos cambiantes de la población. Su diseño arquitectónico refleja tanto la influencia colonial como las tendencias contemporáneas, con frondosos árboles, bancos de piedra y una estatua central que honra a las tradiciones de sus habitantes. Además de su valor histórico, el parque se ha convertido en un importante destino turístico, atrayendo a visitantes de todas partes que buscan disfrutar de su belleza natural y adentrarse en la rica historia de la región.

El parque y las calles cercanas a este son empedrados con la piedra de cantera que los habitantes de la región labran con sus manos. La belleza del parque ha tenido algunas transformaciones siendo en el año 2020 su última remodelación a la fecha.

Curiti’s Main Park, located in front of the San Joaquin temple, is a historical and cultural landmark of the region. Its origin dates back to the Spanish colonial period when it was established as a meeting point and market for the local inhabitants. For many, even locals, the history of this place goes unnoticed, perhaps out of ignorance, but for sure when you listen to its history you will discover the magic of this place. Over the centuries, this space has borne witness to important historical and social events, becoming the beating heart of community life.

Over time, Curiti’s Main Park has evolved, adapting to the changing needs and tastes of the population. Its architectural design reflects both colonial influences and contemporary trends, with leafy trees, stone benches, and a central statue that honors the traditions of its inhabitants. In addition to its historical value, the park has become an important tourist destination, attracting visitors from far and wide to enjoy its natural beauty and delve into the region’s rich history.

The park and the streets near it are paved with quarry stone that the inhabitants of the region carve with their hands. The beauty of the park has had some transformations being in the year 2020 its last remodeling to date.

Ecofibras

Ecofibras, una cooperativa de artesanías con raíces profundas en la tradición del fique es una joya cultural en el corazón de Curití, conocido como el lugar de los telares. Durante décadas, esta empresa ha sido un faro de preservación de las ricas tradiciones locales, encabezada por su gerente, Manuel Atuesta, y respaldada por un equipo dedicado que comparte un compromiso inquebrantable con la artesanía y la historia de la región. Al ingresar a Ecofibras, los visitantes son recibidos con calidez y entusiasmo, invitados a explorar el fascinante mundo detrás de la fabricación de las hermosas artesanías.

Un recorrido por la fábrica revela el trabajo artesanal meticuloso y la pasión que impregnan a cada pieza creada en Ecofibras. Los visitantes tienen la oportunidad de conocer a los hábiles artesanos que dan vida a estas obras maestras, aprendiendo sobre las técnicas transmitidas de generación en generación y admirando el talento que se refleja en cada tejido, ellos con alegría y orgullo muestran que aquello, que es su labor cotidiana es una obra de arte para otros. La experiencia se completa con una visita obligada a la tienda de artesanías, donde los productos de Ecofibras se exhiben en todo su esplendor, desde hermosos tapices hasta coloridas bolsas y accesorios.

Nuestro recorrido comenzó en el corazón de la ciudad, el Parque Central, donde la imponente Iglesia de San Joaquín nos recibió con su esplendor arquitectónico y una atmósfera cargada de espiritualidad e historia, desde nuestra llegada pudimos experimentar la calidez de su gente y un clima que hace que te quieras quedar.

Una parada imperdible fue en la Empresa de Artesanías en Fique Ecofibras, donde la cálida bienvenida de su gerente, Manuel Atuesta, nos adentró en el fascinante proceso del fique. Desde el cultivo hasta la creación de hermosas obras de arte, cada paso revela el talento y la dedicación de los artesanos locales. La tienda de artesanías nos sorprendió con sus creaciones únicas, que capturan la esencia misma de Curití y al llevarte estas hermosas obras, te llevas un pedacito de historia que te harán recordar este lugar.

Para degustar los sabores auténticos de la región, nos dirigimos a El fogón de Loló, donde la chef Loló nos recibió con brazos abiertos. Ella nos contó un poco de la historia del lugar, los platos deliciosos y la atención excepcional hicieron que confirmemos que este lugar fue la mejor elección. Cada bocado nos transportó a la esencia culinaria tradicional de Santander, en un ambiente acogedor y lleno de encanto.

Explorar la naturaleza exuberante de Curití fue una experiencia inolvidable en el Parque Natural El Santuario. Entre paisajes y la vegetación autóctona, descubrimos la historia del picure, un símbolo emblemático de la zona, que añadió un toque especial a nuestra aventura, pues esperábamos avistar un ejemplar, aunque nuestro guía nos dijo que en la zona había un buen número de estos animales, no corrimos con la suerte de verlos.

El día culminó en el balneario de Pescaderito, donde disfrutamos de aguas cristalinas y de vistas panorámicas que nos dejaron sin aliento. Y para terminar la jornada, nos refugiamos en Coffee Pub, un lugar tranquilo y encantador cerca del Parque Central, donde el ambiente nos hizo disfrutar de la amistad y la buena música, una atmosfera propicia para compartir experiencias, disfrutar de buena comida y unos cocteles espectaculares.

To taste the authentic flavors of the region, we headed to El fogón de Loló, where chef Loló welcomed us with open arms. She shared a bit of the history of the place, and the delicious dishes and the exceptional service made us confirm that this place was the best choice. Every bite transported us to the traditional culinary essence of Santander, all within a cozy and charming atmosphere.

Exploring Curiti’s exuberant nature was an unforgettable experience at El Santuario Natural Park. Amidst landscapes and native vegetation, we discovered the history of the picure, an emblematic symbol of the area, which added a special touch to our adventure. Although our guide informed us that in the area there were a good number of these animals, we were not lucky enough to see them.

The day ended at the Pescaderito spa, where we enjoyed crystal clear waters and panoramic views that took our breath away. To cap off the day, we took refuge in Coffee Pub, a quiet and charming place near the Central Park. The inviting atmosphere made us enjoy friendship and good music, creating an environment conducive to sharing experiences, enjoying good food and spectacular cocktails.
