At the Y, we believe every child has potential, and we’re here to nurture that potential. From youth sports to academic support to leadership development, the Y helps bring out the best in kids, and they keep surprising us with all they can do. child care CHILDWATCH AGES 6 WEEKS-12 YEARS Child Watch provides supervision and activities for children so members can participate in other YMCA activities. Mon-Fri 8:00am-2:00pm & 4:00-8:00pm M: FREE Sat 8:00am-2:00pm M: FREE Sun 1:00-4:00pm M: FREE magic place afterschool care ages 5-12 The YMCA Magic Place is a fun, safe and supportive afterschool program that fosters the physical, social and emotional growth of each child. YMCA Magic Place offers supervised homework help and tutoring, athletic activities, varied indoor games and projects in partnership with Roanoke City, Salem City and Botetourt County public schools. Mon-Fri afterschool-6:00pm $57+/week y pass - afterschool care ages 10-15 When school’s out, the Y is in! Students who go to Andrew Lewis Middle School think Y Pass is fun, and parents know the Y offers a safe place to socialize, get tutoring help and participate in group activities. Students have access to our Wellness Center, Gym and our Teen Center featuring Wii, X-BOX Kinect, WI-FI, Air Hockey, Pool Table and Foosball. Sign up at the Salem Family Y Welcome Center. Children ages 4 years and up will enjoy dinner, games and swimming. Register the Wednesday before the program. education & leadership teen leaders club AGES 13-18 The YMCA Teen Leaders’ Club provides high schoolers with knowledge, training, communication skills and valuable teambuilding experience through volunteering in YMCA programs and in the community. The Leaders’ Club program will train teens in physical education and servicelearning to better serve our community and the YMCA as they encourage each other to make a positive impact for present and future generations. A leader must possess strong character, a positive attitude, meet basic physical requirements and maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the school year. Leaders’ Club is a school-year-long commitment that meets weekly. Interested candidates may apply to the club starting in August. Program fees are payable upon acceptance into the program.
