A highlight tour

Spot on Germany This optional one week trip will give participants a glimpse of what Germany, its history, culture and nature have to offer. As a true German experience, travel between the different locations will mostly be done on the comfortable, reliable and hugely popular German train system. We organize your trip through Germany and provide for transportation by train and bus, accommodation in youth hostels and hotels in double to 4-bed rooms, half board (breakfast and one warm meal) as well as occasional local snacks, professional local tour guides, entry fees and competent chaperoning by experienced YFU staff.

July 23rd/24th

Weimar Our trip starts in Weimar, the cradle of German Classicism. Accompanied by a guide, you will follow in Goethe's and Schiller’s footsteps, experiencing this romantic town that is so significant to German literature and art. The following day, another chapter of German history will be experienced by visiting the nearby memorial on the site of the former Buchenwald concentration camp. Apart from the historical site itself, the memorial hosts four permanent exhibitions.

Did you know… …the famous Bauhaus movement was actually not founded in Dessau but in Weimar’s former art school? Today the school houses the Bauhaus university.

July 25th-27th

Berlin Next stop: capital city! The group will visit Berlin, a city full of history, art and urban trends. A true Berlin character and experienced city guide will give you a tour of his home town, covering several decades of history. You will visit the Brandenburg Gate, the remains of the Berlin Wall and other landmarks. On the second day the German parliament building, the Jewish museum and the central Holocaust memorial with its 2711 concrete stelas will be explored, leaving you with lasting memories and thoughts to reflect. On the 27th Sanssouci palace (literally “without sorrow”), Frederick the Great’s residence and often nicknamed the “Prussian Versailles”, awaits! Spend your time in its majestic gardens and the idyllic city of Potsdam before returning to the vibrant metropolis, where the group will participate in an engaging Street Art workshop and tour, experiencing the famous Berlin vibe at first hand.

Did you know… …Berlin has more museums (180) than rainy days (106)? For those looking for a break from culture trips, it also hosts continental Europe’s largest department store (KaDeWe)!

July 28th/29th

Munich Leaving the capital, you will head back south to Munich, where a city tour will show you some of its most popular and well-known sights. The evening will be leisurely spent in Munich's famous English Garden. The next day, a day trip to the Alps and Berchtesgaden National Park will bring you close to some of Bavarias natural wonders. You will whiz down a wooden slide into a working salt mine that surprises the visitor with underground caverns and serene lakes. After returning to daylight, a true highlight of German landscapes awaits you in Berchtesgaden National Park: beautiful Königssee, an emerald-green lake surrounded by towering alpine peaks. You will then spend one last night in Munich before taking your return flight home from Munich’s international airport.

Did you know… …Munich’s English Garden (Englischer Garten) is larger than both London’s Hyde Park and New York’s Central Park?
