MESSAGE FROM OUR SENIOR COMMITTEE

Engineering is the use of science in the real world Engineers play a critical role in shaping the world around us and play an important role in addressing some of society's biggest challenges, from providing renewable energy and smart, sustainable infrastructure to our water supplies and advancing healthcare development Young engineers are going to play a major part in facing these challenges.

The national Young Engineers society supports the professional and personal development of the young engineering professionals and students This society hosts a range of events and workshops geared specifically for young engineers

Young engineers should take every advantage of Engineers Ireland’s networking events in the early stages of their careers to make connections with our community of over 30,000 members and YES provides a good place to do this

Cork YES provides a networking platform and useful resources for young engineers and engineering students of both MTU and UCC via a variety of events and supports annually Each year many young engineers gain valuable connections and engineering insight from attending these events, which in turn, supports their professional and personal development

The Cork YES committee are a powerhouse in promotion of engineering across all disciplines From visiting schools and judging school projects to being an integral part of the Engineering Family Fund Day at the Old Cork Waterworks each year, where approximately a thousand people experience engineering through fun activities and presentations.

More than all of the above, the Cork YES provide a means of social engagement for likeminded people and can be a useful means of meeting new friends if you are new to the Cork area

On behalf of the Cork Region I would like to take this opportunity to thank our local YES for their commitment and energy to the work they have done over the last few years and I wish them the very best for future events

KATE SCALLY

2024/2025 is Kate’s second term as Chairperson of YES Cork. She has been involved with YES Cork for the last 4 years; having previously held the roles of Secretary, PRO and Dublin Liaison Officer. She has an undergraduate degree in Process and Chemical Engineering from UCC and a Level 9 Certificate in Intelligent Manufacturing Systems from MTU. She is looking forward to the year ahead working with her fellow committee members and hosting the events we have in store.

ZAIDA REYES

Zaida is the current secretary. This is her third year involved in the society. She works in BioMarin as a C&Q Engineer. Zaida is excited for this year’s activities and involving more young engineers in the society.

WIKTORIA BIEDRON

Wiktoria Biedron is PRO for the year 2024/2025. She graduated from University of Limerick with a Masters in Civil Engineering in 2022. She is working in Mott MacDonald as a Civil Engineer, with a focus on drainage design, SuDs and sustainable solutions. She has worked on a variety of projects in Ireland and abroad. In her free time she enjoys playing volleyball, crochet and reading. PRO

ENA O’DRISCOLL

Ena is studying Mechanical Engineering in MTU Cork and joined YES in November 2024 as an MTU Rep. She thoroughly enjoys acting, musicals and singing. Her favourite musicals are Les Misérables and Hamilton. She is also fluent in Irish sign language.

LUKE MCCORMACK

Luke is a final year B.Eng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering student in MTU. He is an outgoing individual, involved with many societies and clubs at university. He would love the opportunity to spread the message of YES and highlight events taking place with his fellow engineering students.

Our committee, which was elected in May 2024, has regular monthly meetings and plans many events for local young engineers. To get involved follow us on our social media platforms to keep up to date with committee events.
