CHRIS BIGGAR Welcome to my portfolio booklet. I decided to go this route instead of building a website, although that’s still going to happen this was just an idea of mine I’ve had for awhile.

I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada and I have to tell you it’s the most beautiful city in Canada. I’m originally from Ontario and grew up just outside of Toronto in a small town called Burlington. This is where I was fortunate to play with my dads Lionel train set. In my opinion this is where my creativity began, sitting by myself with my imagination.

I moved out to BC to go to school at Thompson Rivers University up in Kamloops. This is where I took and received my certificate in Horticulture.

I know...where is the design coming in? After working in the field of Horticulture I decided I needed to follow my passion in the creative industry and this is where I went back for Digital Art and Design. Self taught in the Adobe products before hand this became an asset for the school year.

After this I decided to move onto more larger opportunities and moved to Vancouver. I was quickly employed by the North shore Real Estate Weekly working 3 days a week. This is where I learned how to be a smart graphic designer as time-lines were implemented and deadlines had to be met.

After the crash of 2008 I was layed off but these things happen for a reason and I was hired on at BCLC which is where I am currently.

WEB & PRINT AT BCLC I am currently employed at BCLC which is the British Columbia Lottery Corporation in Vancouver, BC. Here I am a multimedia graphic designer and I primarily focus on web content for PlayNow.com and BCLC.com. Further to assisting the web content I also focus on print, photography, staging concepts and anything creative the business needs. Coming from the newspaper industry I’ve certainly gained knowledge on being efficient as well as being smart at what I do. Always learning, creating and my next stage is to go into motion graphics and learn that side of the industry.

TYPOGRAPHY Typography is a fascinating topic for me as a lot of the font families have a deep rich history in where they came from. Grunge fonts not so much but some have similar characteristics to the older styles.

MICKEY or TIGGER MICKEY MOUSE WAS CREATED AS A REPLACEMENT FOR OSWALD THE LUCKY RABBIT, AN EARLIER CARTOON CHARACTER CREATED BY THE DISNEY STUDIO FOR CHARLES MINTZ OF UNIVERSAL STUDIOS

HE WAS INTRODUCED IN CHAPTER II OF HOUSE AT POOH CORNER, WHEN HE SHOWS UP ON WINNIE -THE-POOH'S DOORSTEP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, ANNOUNCING HIMSELF WITH A BIG BOUNCE.

EVENTS Here’s a few selections of the event posters I can design. Some are simple with a minimalist look to it and others can be more dynamic with layered elements. `

IDENTITY The SLYCK logo was created for a client that wanted to start a company up north and wanted to express in his logo machinery. I came up with this simple design of a cog with accent colours of gold. This reproduced well on the side of his vehicle as a wrap.

BLACKJACK word treatment was created for a new game launch at BCLC which turned into a campaign with multiple elements.

FAHRENHEIT treatment was created for a production company that specialiezed in deep house music in Vancouver, BC.

In 2010 I decided to do the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Which is a ride from Vancouver, BC to Seattle, WA. During my training I met up with the captain of Team OVCARE, Nadia Gale. There she introduced me to hill repeats and learning to properly train for distance riding. After the first year I decided to join the team and from then on it’s been great. This is where I spend most of my volunteering and came up with the team kit. From concept for the teams first jersey to entering into full kits. This involved everything from cycling caps to bib shorts to long sleeve jackets.

LULU LEMON LAB STORE BROADWAY & CAMBIE CONCEPT IDEA I was walking by the Lululemon Lab store and saw in their window some artwork produced by some local artist. I was currently working on this design at home and started to think how neat it would be to put this in their front store.

My idea was to create a similar effect using inspirational words created from the Lululemon word bank that they have. From their I would put them into a similar spiral effect with different colours. Being that it was spring it would’ve looked fantastic in earthy colours and would be an incredible thing to look at while waiting for the bus.

Unfortunately this wasn’t picked up by them as they had other plans for their window.

It was still a lot of fun to photograph, mock up and present to them as an idea for their storefront.

PHOTOGRAPHY Photography is something I like doing in a non-professional light. It’s more or less a hobby of mine but taking a beautiful photo with the right lighting and clarity can enhance a product. Whethere it be for the web, print, mobile or anything to create more interest.
