President’s Article A HEALTHY HOME IS A HAPPY HOME

I
f you are like me, you are trying to play catch up and drop those last few (or 30) pounds before it’s time to break out the bikinis and speedos. While local gyms, personal trainers, and fitness classes are a great source for this, often time and money do not permit these options. So rather than neglect the importance of exercise, create a home gym.
I know what you are thinking…we do not have the room in our home. Not so fast my friend. Local fitness guru and owner of Fine Tune Fitness, Jerry DeJane, tells us that all we need is one wall corner to corner. Bottom line is you don’t need a lot of space. This could be an area in a spare bedroom, a sun room, basement, or any other area you can make available. As far as equipment goes, that depends on your goals and budget. It does not need to be extensive. A few dumbbells, a medicine ball, and a treadmill, bike or elliptical is more than sufficient to get plenty of great workouts. The key is to pick some devices that you are comfortable with and that you will use on a consistent basis. One wall will provide plenty of space for you to place the equipment and keep it looking neat, just like the rest of your home. Ok, you’ve made the commitment, but now what. Of course you can use Google university to educate yourself on all sorts of workouts. However, just like when buying or selling a home, I recommend contacting a professional like Jerry. A good local fitness expert can not only help you organize the space, but also personalize a routine to help get you on your way. Your home is a valuable investment and it is important to utilize it to its fullest potential. A little imagination can go a long way. A home gym will not only help you to get fit, but it may even keep a little money in your pocket and add time to your schedule. A healthier you with more time and more money will certainly aid in making your home a happier home. If you are in the market for a home and like this idea, be sure to have your local expert REALTOR find you a home with a space for a gym. Good luck with your workout. Ready, Set, Go!!!! A Bittersweet Farewell
A
s many already know, our long-time Bookkeeper and Membership Service Coordinator, Mary Ann Pallante, will be retiring as of May 1, 2015. Mary Ann has been a very dedicated employee for almost two decades. Although we are sad to see her go, we are happy and excited for her to get to spend more time with her husband Tony and their four grandchildren. Thank you for your many years of committment to YCAR, you will be missed more than you know.
