Welcome Foreword Dialogue sits at the heart of tolerant societies. As part of our vision at the Ministry of Tolerance, we are pleased to be bringing The Hay Festival to Abu Dhabi in February 2020 and to have partnered with Yalla in its inaugural edition of Yalla Arts & Culture UAE. The Hay Festival Abu Dhabi will be an important celebration of tolerance and cultural exchange. It will encourage thought-provoking gatherings, capturing the power and richness of meaningful dialogue. And it will celebrate the legacy and inspirational leadership of the founder of our nation, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose tolerance enabled the success we enjoy today as a diverse, inclusive and vibrant country. It will also contribute to the growing status of the UAE as a flourishing cultural hub and an important global centre for cultural exchange. The Hay Festival Abu Dhabi will help in our quest to build positive relationships with others. It will underscore the power of culture and the arts in nurturing the human qualities that facilitate tolerance, including the values of human fraternity, empathy and mutual respect. There is no doubt that the sharing of cultural experiences, both within and beyond borders, has the potential to initiate dialogue, dispel myths and misunderstandings, nurture cooperation and encourage a meeting of minds. Culture and the arts grow in the same fertile soil as tolerance. As the Minister of Tolerance, I invite all to attend the Hay Festival Abu Dhabi with an open will, open heart and open mind. I encourage all of us to seize this opportunity to witness, share and engage in the meaningful ideas and conversations that will stay with us. Most of all, I encourage you to have fun and to relish the expressive and vibrant atmosphere in which science meets fiction, journalism meets art, photography, poetry, music, film and performance. What’s new for 2020? We are delighted to publish in collaboration with the Ministry of Tolerance the inaugural edition of Yalla Arts UAE. With the exciting arts and culture scene developing at such a pace, we focus first on highlighting Abu Dhabi as a major destination for art and culture. This guide will be published bi-annually and is a reflection of the current arts landscape. In this—our first edition—we have the opportunity of introducing the Hay Festival Abu Dhabi. This worldrenowned festival runs from 25-28 February 2020 and has events across the city, but its cultural heart is located at Manarat Al Saadiyat Cultural Centre. We aim to inspire you with the exciting programme on offer for everyone; we will introduce you to the Festival and its roots, and then give you the reasons to attend and engage with the founders, contributors, and mingle with other festival goers. If you are visiting before, during, or after the Hay Festival there’s a host of arts and cultural programming to enjoy on your visit, and The Saadiyat Cultural District is the spot to find the breadth of its activity. Look no further than the Louvre Abu Dhabi for exciting exhibitions on Chivalry and global cinema favourite Charlie Chaplin. The Manarat Al Saadiyat is a bastion of arts programming for those who like to make art as much as they enjoy viewing it. Finally, New York University, located moments away from both cultural institutions is a hotspot of art, music, and theatre. As humans, we have an enriching, emotional reaction to culture and creativity, both as artists ourselves or as an audience. We revel in the written and spoken word, are stirred by artistic, architectural and musical expression and inspired by dramatic and dance performances on stage and screen.

Make Hay where t he sun always shines ‘I have been to over 50 different festivals around the world, but Hay is my favourite and fondest festival, because it’s also my first’, explains Tishani Doshi who first encountered the Hay Festival in 2003 and returns every single year. She will be a presenter when Hay arrives in Abu Dhabi this February. She adds, ‘I am half Welsh. It’s very much a Welsh festival that focusses a lot on Welsh writing. So, I went in 2003 with friends when the Festival was still small. It was a literary education for me to see writers in action. I wanted to be a part of that world as an aspiring writer at the time. Publishing is so uncertain, so you never know how your career will go, but Hay offered me this sense of a community and many of those same people are still with the Festival today. For me, going back to Hay every year feels like going home; it’s about friendship. I interviewed John Irving there, stayed in the same B&B as Margaret Atwood. Seamus Heaney sat in on my very first poetry reading—this can only happen to a young writer at Hay’.
A Festival for the Word Curious Around the world, festivals are booming. Audiences flock to them for different reasons. Some feel the need to connect with other readers while others visit to enjoy rare moments of offline experience in the increasingly digital age. One answer to book lovers’ needs is The Hay Festival of Literature & Arts, an annual literature

Festival held in Hay-on-Wye, Powys, Wales, for ten days from May to June. Devised in 1988, the Festival was described by Bill Clinton in 2001 as ‘The Woodstock of the mind’. For over 30 years, Hay Festival has brought readers and writers together to share stories and ideas in sustainable events around the world: from the beaches of Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, to the cities of Beirut in Lebanon and Segovia in Spain, from the hills of Wales, to Mexico and Peru, reaching more than five million people across five continents. Its next incarnation—the first festival in the Gulf region—is certain to inspire!
Literary Glitterati The Festival in Abu Dhabi promises a glittering line-up of speakers from around the world. The climax of the event will be a celebration of Syrian poet Adonis’ 90th birthday in a poetry gala. The festival brings together over 65 poets and authors representing over 20 nationalities. There will also be spoken word performances by Abu Dhabi’s long-running open mic poetry night, Rooftop Rhythms. On the founding and the founder of the festival, Peter Florence, Doshi adds, ‘Peter has a talent of creating electric panels and putting people together to bring out their best. It says a lot about a festival creator who is able to place a Nobel prize winner on a panel with a first timer and still manage to create some literary magic’.
The newest incarnation of Hay Festival will take place at venues in Abu Dhabi from 25 to 28 February 2020 with the city’s cultural centre, Manarat al Saadiyat, serving as the festival’s heart alongside other venues supported by the UAE’s Ministry of Tolerance. SOUAD MASSI, In Concert – Oumniya Oumniya (‘My wish’) marks the great comeback of Souad Massi, the Algerian chaâbi-folk icon. Her sixth album is anchored in current events, covering Algeria, politics, love, freedom and emancipation. Massi plays an Algerian mandole, the main instrument of châabi and Kabyle music, creating a light, melodic folk, balanced with pop, and adds an Arab-Andalusian violin (Mokrane Adlani) and the derbouka (Rabah Kalfa) with Latin drums (Adriano Tenorio). Bachar Mar-Khalifé appears on stage with his father Marcel Khalifé, the renowned Lebanese composer, 2005 UNESCO Artist for Peace virtuoso of the oud, and singer, in a musical tribute to his friend the great Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. It was by singing Darwish’s poetry at the beginning of his career that Marcel Khalifé reached international acclaim, far beyond the Arab world. His response to this tragedy made news and won him humanitarian awards around the world. Instead of seeking revenge or sinking into hatred, Izzeldin Abuelaish called for the people in the region to start talking to each other. This association fights for the recognition of rights, and to make Tunisia after the 2011 Jasmine Revolution a de facto, free and transparent democracy. He continues his advocacy from 2018, striving for better relations between the countries around the Mediterranean and a more humane policy of the UN regarding war refugees. ADONIS with Zulaikha Aburisha, Volker Braun, Qassim Haddad, Pierre Joris, Yang Lian, Serge Pey, André Velter, A 90th Birthday Poetry Party A fitting climax celebration for the festival is the gala reading and tribute to the great Syrian poet, who will read his own work and is joined on stage by his friends—poets from across the world and speaking many languages. A leader of modernism, Adonis’ poetry disrupts the traditional and classical expectations, a perfect reflection of the volatile times he has written through. Adonis is a giant of world literature, and his work has been profoundly influential for generations of writers and readers of poetry so it’s an honour to end the festival on such a high note. Worldwide Stage The Hay Festival has turned reading and literature into a community experience worldwide. Yalla Arts chats to Hay Festival founder and organiser Peter Florence about the inaugural Hay Festival Abu Dhabi.

YallaArts: You have been running Hay Festival for over 30 years now—how much has it changed in that time? Peter:In lots of ways it is the same: it’s curious, engaged, informal. The basic idea of sharing stories is universal, and I guess the big change is that as we’ve adventured around the world, we’ve broadened our vision and ambition. YallaArts: What was the initial rationale for the Festival? What gap did you see the need to fill? Peter: The Festival was dreamt up around my parents’ kitchen table. My father wanted to engage with ideas and politics, I wanted to meet inspiring heroes, and my mother—and she was so right—insisted that whatever we did had to be a party. YallaArts: What still excites you about the Festival, having run it for so long? Peter: New stories. And the meeting of friends. The Festival, wherever it has travelled, has always been a gathering point for people with open minds. YallaArts: What first brought your festivals overseas? Peter: Gabriel Garcia Marquez would never come to Wales, so we took the Festival to him in Colombia. Everything else, from Bangladesh to Chile, has grown from the realisation that every culture, every language, has its own storytellers, journalists, and readers. 10 | SPONSORED CONTENT
YallaArts: Describe a Hay Festivalgoer. Peter: Honestly, anyone who likes a joke, or a song, or a conversation, or a story. If you are interested in the world, and if you are interested in people, then the Festival will be for you. If you’re not, then come anyway. It might be fun. YallaArts: What was it about Abu Dhabi that made you think that our city was a good fit for this Festival? Peter: We’ve been looking for a new home in the Arab world since our first two festivals in Beirut ten years ago. Abu Dhabi has welcomed the conversation we bring with great openness. It’s a phenomenally diverse and complex city. There are innumerable stories to hear. YallaArts: What do you personally enjoy most about your Hay-on-Wye festivals and their international incarnations? Peter: Discovery. The idea that you will hear from people you are meeting for the first time, and that every new friendship will enrich your understanding of the world.

Sharing stories is an intrinsic need for all human beings, so the Hay Festival took its show on the road offering a space for conversation and dialogue. Cristina Fuentes La Roche helps to conceptualise the Festival’s adventures abroad.
CRISTINA FUENTES LA ROCHE YallaArts: What is it about Hay that makes it translate so well in other countries? Cristina: The basic idea of gathering to tell stories, to share, to imagine the world and to see the world from different perspectives—this is universal and an intrinsic need of all human beings. YallaArts: Tell us about Beirut39, your first festival in the Middle East?
Brainstormed across a kitchen table in 1987, the Hay Festival has grown from offering 1,000 booklovers a place to commune to reaching over five million across five continents! YallaArts caught up with Cristina Fuentes La Roche, International Director, who has helped to fuel the Festival’s exponential growth. YallaArts: What drew you to this work? Cristina: Reading is a great passion of mine. My background in arts management made me realise that I could help with promoting writers and ideas. I had worked on different projects with the Hay Festival before Peter Florence proposed that I help Hay set up a Festival in Cartagena de Indias, and that is when all these amazing adventures began.

Cristina: During Beirut’s tenure as Unesco World Book Capital in 2010, we launched Beirut39, which was the selection and celebration of the 39 most outstanding authors under the age of 40 from the Arab world. We brought them together in Beirut and organised over 60 events in four days taking them to libraries, cafes, and theatres. We were proud to celebrate such amazing talent. We went on to set up Hay Festival Beirut for two years running—always in awe of the huge talent in the region. YallaArts: Do you expect it to manifest itself differently in Abu Dhabi than it has in other cities? Cristina: Each festival has got its own soul and a different way of being enjoyed. There is a lot that we can plan, but there will be a lot that will surprise us as well. Abu Dhabi is such a multicultural and diverse city that makes it a great challenge, but at the same time offers a great strength.
YallaArts: When did you conceive the idea to take the festival on the road?
YallaArts: You promote emerging talent with these festivals. Where do you find the emerging artists?
Cristina: Hay Festival has been helping set up festivals all over the world for many years, but in 2004, we decided not only to help others but also to create our own festival abroad, working with and creating local teams. I joined to set up Hay Festival in Cartagena and many others followed, as well as book-related one-off activities in many countries and regions of the world.
Cristina: Talking to publishers, opinion formers, writers —we are in constant conversation with others. This is a team effort and the result of many joint experiences. YallaArts: Describe the ideal Hay Festival visitor. Cristina: Anyone that has curiosity—that is the only thing you need to enjoy Hay. YALLA ARTS — EDITION 1 | 13

When words move you Award-winning poet, writer, and dancer Tishani Doshi was born in the Chennai, India, to Welsh and Gujarati parents. She is currently a visiting professor of practice, literature, and creative writing at NYUAD, and Yalla Arts is thrilled to introduce you to her and let you know that she will be delivering magical poetry readings at the Hay Festival Abu Dhabi this February. A seasoned Hay festivalgoer, Doshi is a writer, cum-dancer, cum-poet. She regularly contemplates identity and gender in her prose and poetry. Her journey to becoming an award-winning poet took a curious turn through the dance world. Here is the story of how Tishani Doshi found her way to a Hay Festival stage near you.
Hers was that classic story of travelling around the world, only to find exactly what she was looking for right next door to where she grew up. Within a month of returning home, Doshi recounts a chance meeting with the woman who would change her life. On a journalism assignment to review a book of poems, she met the legendary Indian choreographer Chandralekha—a distinguished dancer and feminist in her seventies. She invited Doshi to work for her. ‘I was young with no training in dance, other than some yoga.’ Doshi explains, ‘I became a dancer spending the next 15 years with her troupe performing her last choreography. Chandralekha became my guru, my friend, and a model of how someone can lead an 14 | SPONSORED CONTENT

Outsider Poetry
A Story of A Return After years studying and working abroad, Tishani Doshi returned to her native India in the 1990s. She calls returning to her homeland ‘one of the best decisions she’s ever made’. While her peers went off to new lands and made new stories for themselves, Doshi returned home, and her story revealed itself.

unconventional life on her own terms’. ‘So much of my work is about women’s experiences—particularly from the Indian context—and the larger idea of what it means to carry these [women’s] bodies around’. Through dance, Doshi realised the astounding capabilities of women’s bodies. ‘I was learning about my country and, more personally, about my body and its inherent possibilities and limitations, and the particular power that can be harnessed from women’s bodies’. ‘My story is that I wanted to be a writer, but I became a dancer’. Doshi distils her story down to this, ‘When I returned to writing, it took a long time to be published. But now, I’ve published three volumes of poetry, two novels, and a novella, all the while I continued to dance all over the world touring with Chandralekha. Dancing helped me inhabit my own body as I have grown older and has informed my work. In fact, I see no separation of forms. To just write would be very dull to me’.
Geography also factors into Doshi’s work as much as form. Doshi confesses to suffering from an Outsider Syndrome being born to a Welsh mother and Indian father. ‘I grew up in India and always felt acutely aware of not belonging. I’ve travelled enough and lived abroad to now know that I have also enjoyed the benefits of not belonging and the belonging that comes from being an outsider. There’s nothing that can claim as my own, but there’s nothing that I can’t claim also, so everything opens up. ‘For a writer, language is homeland. It’s the constant struggle where words are constantly failing you but, at the same time, they are all that we have. I have had moments of ‘homecoming’ in places that I do not even call home. I explore all this as a writer. I am a storyteller’. Furusiyya: The Art of Chivalry between East and West (February 19, 2020 – May 30, 2020) The exhibition explores a unique and extraordinary link, where furusiyya in the East meets Chivalry in the West, and how these distinct practices of combat and knightly values led to a specific social class and culture in the Islamic East and largely Christian West. Charlie Chaplin: When Art Met Cinema (April 15, 2020 – July 11, 2020) Discover the connection between the great Charlie Chaplin films and the artistic creations of avant-garde artists of his time, including Marc Chagall, Fernand Léger, and František Kupka—artists at the centre of modern art movements such as Constructivism, Surrealism, and Dadaism. Featuring around 100 paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, archives, and film scenes, the exhibition reveals the relationship between Chaplin’s work and those of his contemporaries who constantly addressed— each in their own way – the rapidly changing world of the first half of the twentieth century.
Art History Revised Created by an exceptional agreement between the governments of Abu Dhabi and France, Louvre Abu Dhabi was designed by Jean Nouvel and opened on Saadiyat Island in November 2017. The museum is inspired by traditional Islamic architecture and its monumental dome creates a rain of light effect and a unique social space that brings people together. Louvre Abu Dhabi celebrates the universal creativity of mankind and invites audiences to see humanity in a new light. Its coral and sea stone watchtower defended the city’s settlement and had the only freshwater well on Abu Dhabi island. In 1795, the tower was enlarged into a small fort by Sheikh Shakhbut bin Dhiyab Al Nahyan and became the permanent residence of the ruler. Qasr Al Hosn was transformed into a museum in 2018 following more than 11 years of conservation and restoration work.

YALLA PICK! The Red Palace runs from 26 January - 28 March 2020 and is a major solo exhibition by celebrated Saudi Arabian artist Sultan bin Fahad. Following well-received presentations in Riyadh and Jeddah, this multidimensional and immersive exhibition will be on view at the Cultural Foundation. It presents a series of investigations of Saudi Arabia’s history through multimedia interventions including video, sculpture, photograms and installations. Named after the Red Palace in Riyadh, where the exhibition was first presented, the piece is inspired by the rise and fall of this iconic site that existed at the height of Saudi Arabia’s modernisation.
Berklee Abu Dhabi will have some prominent musicians on their staff with Grammy-nominated, Lebanese-American singersongwriter Mayssa Karaa serving as Artistic Director, and prominent music producer and Grammywinning engineer Gael Hedding appointed the Director of Berklee Abu Dhabi. Both Karaa and Hedding are Berklee College of Music alumni.
Set in the heart of Abu Dhabi’s cultural hub of Saadiyat Island, Manarat Al Saadiyat (MAS) invites visitors to be inspired and explore a diverse range of artistic expressions. CULTURAL FOUNDATION
For generations, the Cultural Foundation was a hub of creativity and launched the careers of many Emirati artists. Opened in 1981, the centre for art and learning was closed in 2009 as part of extensive renovations to the Al Hosn site. The Foundation now hosts the Abu Dhabi Children’s Library, a 900-seat theatre and workshops for calligraphy, art, research, exhibitions and cultural learning. It has resumed its place as the city’s hub for art and culture complementing other cultural offerings such as Louvre Abu Dhabi and Manarat Al Saadiyat.

Famous Alums Come to Town
Music lovers will be thrilled to learn that one of America’s premier music and performing arts conservatories, the Berklee College of Music, is coming to the capital. Berklee Abu Dhabi will be located next to Manarat Al Saadiyat cultural centre with a mandate to develop and deliver workshops, masterclasses, courses, ensembles and labs, and it will present a number of annual performances. كيف تصلون إلى المجتمعات التي ال تتاح لها عادة فرصة االستمتاع بفنون باألداء والفن المرئي؟ تأسست دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة على مبادئ وقيم القبول والتسامح لضمان أن جميع الجنسيات التي تعيش أو تعمل أو تزور الدولة تزدهر في بيئة إيجابية من التعايش السلمي .تعتبر جميع شرائح المجتمع متساوية بغض النظر عن الخلفيات المهنية أو ً وانطالقا من روح االندماج التعليم أو المعتقدات أو القدرة البدنية. والحق األصيل في االحترام للجميع ،تضمن وزارة التسامح أن تتضمن برامجها مبادرات مصممة خصيصًا لمجتمع العمال المهرة في البالد ،وهي شريحة ملهمة في المجتمع ،وتعتبر مفتاحًا للقيم التي تسهم في تقدم األمة الحديثة. ما هي الفعاليات أو المبادرات األخرى المخطط لها؟ تستمر وزارة التسامح في التطور ويعتبرها كثيرين منصة عضوية تجذب التنوع والفكر والثقافة والفنون ،وتحفز الحوار الثري .ومع اقتراب حلول اليوم الوطني الخمسين لدولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة وبالتزامن مع معرض إكسبو ،2020ستكمل وزارة التسامح جهود األمة في تحقيق التميز اإلبداعي ،ترقبونا!
ب -برنامج أبطال التسامح يهدف برنامج أبطال التسامح إلى خلق خطاب حول أهمية التسامح على الصعيدين الوطني والعالمي ،مع كون اإلمارات العربية المتحدة نموذجًا مثاليًا لمجتمع متسامح .يتم تقديم البرنامج في شكل ورش عمل ودورات تدريبية حيث يتم أخذ المشاركين في رحلة تحويلية لتعميق فهمهم لقيمة التسامح ووجودها في حياتنا الشخصية والمهنية من خالل المفاتيح الستة التي تساعد على تعريف التسامح في العصر الحديث .هذه المفاتيح هي :الرحمة ،معرفة بعضنا البعض ،الحوار ،حل النزاعات ،المرونة ،والعمل الجماعي.

قصر الحصن
المجمع الثقافي على مدى أجيال كان ّ مركزًا لإلبداع وداعمًا لفناني اإلمارات .تم إفتتاح هذا المركز البارز للفنون والتعلم ألول مرة في عام ،1981وتم إغالقه في عام 2009كجزء من عمليات التجديد الشاملة لموقع قصر الحصن .يستضيف المجمع الثقافي اآلن مكتبة أبوظبي ّ لألطفال ،ومسرح بسعة 900مقعد، وورش عمل للخط ،والفن ،والبحث، والمعارض ،والتعلم الثقافي .ومن المتوقع أن يصبح مرة أخرى مركزًا للفن والثقافة ،باإلضافة إلى العروض الثقافية األخرى في المدينة مثل اللوفر أبوظبي ومنارة السعديات.

يعتبر قصر الحصن أقدم مبنى حجري في مدينة أبوظبي ،حيث كان يستخدم برج المراقبة المبني من الحجر المرجاني والبحري للدفاع عن المدينة وبئر المياه العذبة الوحيد في جزيرة أبوظبي.
ستكون بيركلي أبوظبي مركزًا لتعليم الفنون مساحته 42,000قدم مربع ،مع مرافق تشمل مساحة لألداء واستوديو تسجيل عالمي المستوى واستوديوهات وغرف تدريب وغرف للمجموعات ومختبر فني ومساحة مكتبية .ستتمكن بيركلي أبوظبي أيضًا من استخدام مساحات األداء في مبنى منارة السعديات الحالي ،لذا ترقبوا الموسيقى القادمة من جزيرة السعديات.

اختيار ياال! يفتتح معرض ”الموضة عبر العصور” يوم 18مارس ويركز على الموضة في أبوظبي. ويتتبع تطور أزياء النساء والرجال من العشرينات إلى الثمانينات .كما ستوضح الصور والمنسوجات والمجوهرات واألزياء تأثيرات الثقافات والفترة الزمنية على اتجاهات الموضة.

عندما تحركك الكلمات تيشاني دوشي هي شاعرة وروائية وراقصة حاصلة على العديد من الجوائز .ولدت دوشي في شيناي ،الهند ألم من ويلز وأب كوجوراتي .وهي حاليًا أستاذة زائرة في الممارسة واألدب والكتابة اإلبداعية في جامعة نيويورك أبوظبي ،ويسعد ياال أرتس تقديمها للقارئ ،علمًا بأنها ستقدم قراءات شعرية ساحرة في «مهرجان هاي أبوظبي» في شهر فبراير. قد تبرز قصتها مثل قصائدها ،وإليكم قصة كيف وجدت تيشاني دوشي طريقها إلى مسارح مهرجان هاي .بعد سنوات من الدراسة والعمل في الخارج ،عادت تيشاني دوشي إلى مسقط رأسها الهند في التسعينيات من القرن الماضي .وتصف دوشي العودة إلى وطنها بأنها «أحد أفضل القرارات التي اتخذتها على اإلطالق». وبينما ذهب أقرانها إلى أراضي جديدة وصنعوا قصصًا جديدة ألنفسهم ،عادت دوشي إلى بيتها ،وكشفت قصتها عن نفسها.

منذ بداية فكرة المهرجان التي تولدت أثناء جلسة عصف ذهني عبر طاولة المطبخ في عام ،1987نما مهرجان هاي من كونه مكانًا اللتقاء 1000من محبي الكتب ،إلى منصة عالمية تصل إلى أكثر من خمسة ماليين شخص عبر خمس قارات! ياال أرتس :ما الذي جذبك لهذا العمل؟ كريستينا :القراءة هي شغف كبير بالنسبة لي .كما أن خلفيتي في مجال إدارة الفنون جعلتني أدرك أنني قد أتمكن من المساعدة في تعزيز ُ الكتاب واألفكار .كنت قد عملت سابقًا ضمن مشاريع مختلفة مع مهرجان هاي ،قبل اقتراح بيتر فلورنس أن أساهم في اقامة مهرجان في قرطاجنة في كولومبيا ،وكانت هذه هي بداية كل هذه المغامرات المدهشة. ياال أرتس :متى طرأت لكي فكرة توسع المهرجان دوليًا؟ كريستينا :ساعد مهرجان هاي في إقامة مهرجانات في جميع أنحاء العالم لسنوات عديدة ،ولكن في عام ،2004 قررنا أال يقتصر دورنا على مساعدة اآلخرين ولكن أيضًا أن نأسس مهرجان خاص بنا في الخارج وأن نعمل مع فرق محلية. انضممت من أجل تأسيس مهرجان هاي في قرطاجنة وتبعه العديد من األنشطة األخرى ،باإلضافة إلى أنشطة وفعاليات مرتبطة بالكتاب في العديد من دول ومناطق العالم. ياال أرتس :ما هي العوامل التي ساهمت في نجاح مهرجان هاي في الدول األخرى؟ كريستينا :إنها الفكرة األساسية للتجمع بهدف رواية القصص، والمشاركة ،وتخيل العالم ورؤيته من وجهات نظر مختلفة - إنها حاجة عالمية وجوهرية لجميع البشر.

تقديم إن االعتزاز بقيم الحوار والتواصل اإليجابي ،هو سمة أساسية للمجتمعات المتسامحة .وفي هذا اإلطار ،فإنه يسرنا في وزارة التسامح ،أن نقوم بتنظيم مهرجان هاي أبوظبي في شهر فبراير ، 2020كما يسرنا كذلك ،أن نسهم مع مجلة « يا ّ ال « في إصدار هذه النسخة األولى من ملحق المجلة عن الثقافة والفنون في دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة ،والذي يركز بصفةٍ خاصة ،على هذا المهرجان الواعد بإذن اهلل . إن مهرجان هاي أبوظبي ،سوف يكون بعون اهلل ،احتفا ً ال مهمًا بالتسامح والتبادل الثقافي الهادف ،كما أنه سوف يكون أيضًا ،مجا ً ال إلعمال الفكر ،وتجسيد أهمية الحوار المثمر بين الجميع .وهو فوق ذلك كله ،احتفاء باإلرث الخالد والقيادة التاريخية لمؤسس الدولة ،المغفور له الوالد الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان ،طيب اهلل ثراه ، وهو الذي كان نموذجًا وقدوة ،في نشر قيم السالم والتسامح في الدولة ،وأرسى بذلك دعائم دولة متسامحة وناجحة بكل المقاييس .سوف يكون مهرجان الهاي أبوظبي أيضًا ،دلي ً ال مهمًا ،على الموقع المرموق لدولة اإلمارات ،باعتبارها مركزًا عالميًا للثقافة والفنون . إن مهرجان هاي أبوظبي ،سوف يكون بإذن اهلل ،له دور مهم في تحقيق ما نسعى إليه ،من بناء العالقات اإليجابية مع اآلخرين .سوف يؤكد هذا المهرجان ،مكان الثقافة والفنون في تنمية قدرات البشر على تعزيز التسامح ،بما يشتمل عليه ذلك ، من تعزيز قيم األخوة اإلنسانية ،والتكافل ،واالحترام المتبادل بين الجميع – سوف يؤكد المهرجان ،بما اليدع مجا ً ال للشك ،أن التبادل الثقافي ،والحوار وتبادل األفكار والخبرات ،داخل وخارج الوطن ،هي أدوات أساسية لتعميق المعرفة باآلخرين، والتخلص من الصور السلبية عنهم ،وبناء قنوات التعارف والتعاون والعمل المشترك بينهم – المجتمعات المتسامحة هي بدون شك ،مجتمعات تزدهر فيها الثقافة والفنون ،وتؤدي دورها المرتقب ،بكفاءةٍ وفاعلية . بعقل وبصفتي وزير التسامح ،فإنني أدعو الجميع ،إلى حضور مهرجان هاي أبوظبي، ٍ وقلب مفعم بالمحبة واالستبشار – أدعو الجميع ،إلى اغتنام هذه الفرصة مستنير ، ٍ ،من أجل المشاهدة واالشتراك في األفكار والمناقشات واألنشطة ،التي نأمل أن تكون مثيرة لالهتمام بإذن اهلل – أدعوكم إلى االستمتاع بفعاليات المهرجان ،وبما يثمله من مناخٍ حيوي ،يمتزج فيه العلم مع الخيال ،والصحافة مع التصوير ،والشعر ،والموسيقى ،والسينما ،واألداء الحي – أدعو اهلل سبحانه وتعالى للمهرجان بالنجاح والتوفيق ،في تقديم تجربة ثقافية فريده ،لجميع المشاركين ،آم ً ال بإذن اهلل ،أن تتجسد روح التسامح التي تسود في مجتمع أبوظبي ،في كافة فعاليات المهرجان ، وأن تمتد هذه الروح الوثابة ،إلى العالم كله ،بإذن اهلل . نهيان مبارك آل نهيان
