This package includes two separate application processes for the positions of Yalari Captain and Yalari Senior Leader. Each position carries distinct responsibilities and expectations, and the application materials are tailored accordingly to help identify the best applicants for each.
The Yalari Captain is appointed for twelve months at their school and are a connection between students, school and Yalari. Information and application proceed to pages 3-5.
The Yalari Senior Leader focuses on the one week at Orientation Camp at the beginning of the year and is an informal supporting role for the junior students throughout the year. Information and application proceed to pages 6-9.

Role Overview:
• The Yalari captains can be any senior students from years 10-12.
• The Yalari captain’s key role is to act as a bridge that strengthens the connection between student, school, and Yalari.
• Captains serve as vital representatives who ensure that students continue to feel that they are thriving, feeling seen, heard, and supported, while also maintaining strong, effective communication with partner schools and Yalari.
Key Responsibilities:
• Celebrate what’s going well, build strong relationships and be the kind of leader others look up to.
• Meet with school leadership and Yalari Student Support team on behalf of the Yalari students at your school.
• Meet regularly with your Yalari Captains cohort across Yalari.
• Address student concerns with Yalari and school staff.
• Mentor younger students by promoting and displaying school and CORRIE values.
• Encourage your Yalari students at your school to participate in boarding, school and Yalari engagements and events.
• As a Captain, it is actively listening to peers, advocating for their needs, and ensuring their perspectives are taken into account during planning and decision-making.
• Inspire: Encourage and support younger Yalari students at your school(wellbeing).
• Participation: Organisation and promotion of community involvement with cultural significant days and events.
• Change: Take action to make meaningful, positive change at your school.
• Personal Development: Building characteristics to become an effective leader while gaining new skills and incorporating responsibility.
Your Commitment:
• Attend a team’s call with Yalari Student Support Team at least once a month.
• Organise a meeting with SSO and the school staff team once a term.
• Be engaged/ responsive in the Yalari Captains group chat.
• Engage and encourage others to participate in social media activities.
• Do regular check ins with the Yalari students at your school and relay information back to SSO if extra support is needed.
• Engage and support SSO with activities and encourage engagement with cohort
• Act as a role model for other students in behavior, attitude, and dress.
• Lead by example in academics, extracurriculars, and conduct.
• Organise and participate in significant events and celebrations e.g. NAIDOC Week, Harmony Day, National Sorry Day, Reconciliation week, Mabo Day.
• Help SSO’s with afternoon or weekend catchups when necessary.
• Help promote positive school culture and uphold school and Yalari CORRIE values.

Announcement will be made on Instagram and an email sent out saying ‘applications are open’.
14th November 2025 Applications Preview
Applications have closed and Yalari Student Support Team meets with SSO’s and Llew to go over applications.
14th November 2025 Applications Close
Applications need to be submitted by this date.
19th January 2026
Yalari Captain Recommendation
Email of recommendation sent to each school’s principle, head of boarding and ILO. (They are given a week to respond).
27th January 2026
Successful Applicants Announced
If successful, a ‘Congratulations’ email will be sent out to the applicant, family and school. (Badge and certificate will be posted/ given to school or SSO).
By 27th February 2026
Presentation of Yalari Captain
The new Yalari Captain will then be presented with their badge and certificate at a school assembly.
• The Yalari Senior Leader can be any senior students from year 10-12.
• The Yalari Senior Leader takes on this leadership for just one week at Orientation Camp and is an informal supporting role for the younger students at your school throughout the year.
• The Yalari Senior Leader serves as an essential leader during Orientation Camp providing support to the younger students as someone others can look up to, a helper, a guide and a role model.
• Help younger students feel welcomed, safe and included.
• Follow instructions and lend a hand when needed.
• Help students with questions or worries, and ask an adult if it’s something big.
• Set a good example - Show kindness, responsibility and a positive attitude.
• Keep things fun and safe – join in activities, encourage others, and help make camp awesome!
• Attend the entire week of camp, including the Senior Leaders Camp. Your travel, accommodation and meals will be paid for
• Be a proactive and supportive leader – e.g.; support the younger students if they are feeling homesick.
• Build relationships with the younger students, Yalari Alumni and staff.
• Learn and facilitate the ice breaker games to share with students and sponsors.
• Ensure all rules and routine are followed – e.g.; collecting phones and devices off younger students prior to ‘lights out’.
• Learn the CORRIE values games and the Cultural games and encourage and guide the younger students to participate.
• Prompt and encourage younger students to be organised and ready for each day and event, ensuring they are on time.
• Participate in the preparation for the disco and attend outing to gather supplies with your senior leader peers.
• Attend a dinner with your senior leader peers and Yalari Pathways team.
• Lead by example while following and displaying the CORRIE values.
• Be willing to learn new things and be open to instruction.
