Precautions against heat exhaustion Child Welfare uniform drive By Xpress Reporter

Severe heat may cause illness or even death. These precautions may help to reduce the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke: • Stay indoors and in an airconditioned environment as much as possible; • Eat more frequently but make sure meals are balanced and light; • Never leave any person or pet in a closed, parked vehicle; • Avoid dressing babies in heavy clothing or wrapping them in warm blankets; • Check frequently on people who are elderly, ill or may need help. If you might need help, arrange to have family, friends or neighbours check in with you at least twice a day throughout warm weather periods; • Make sure pets have plenty of water; • Salt tablets should only be taken if specified by your doctor. If you are on a saltrestrictive diet, check with a doctor before increasing salt intake;

HYDRATION IS KEY: Drink plenty of fluids but avoid beverages that contain alcohol, caffeine or a lot of sugar

• If you take prescription diuretics, antihistamines, mood-altering or antispasmodic drugs, check with a doctor about the effects of sun and heat exposure; • Cover windows that receive morning or afternoon sun. Awnings or louvers can reduce the heat entering a

house by as much as 80 percent. If you go outside: • Plan strenuous outdoor activities for early or late in the day when temperatures are cooler; • Take frequent breaks when working outdoors; • Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sun block and light-

coloured, loose-fitting clothes when outdoors; • At first signs of heat illness (dizziness, nausea, headaches, muscle cramps), move to a cooler location, rest for a few minutes and slowly drink a cool beverage. Seek medical attention immediately if you do not feel better.

Best Answer given by an Indian Citizen: My Income Tax return form has been sent back because, In response to a question for 'Number of Dependents on you?', I replied 65% of population who don't pay taxes, 2.1 million illegal immigrants 9,00,000 criminals in over 1382 prisons and above all 769 idiots in parliament. They said, this is not an acceptable answer. Goa Radio organised a competition for poems, in which the first line must be romantic, but the second lin should be the opposite. This was the winning poem: My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife. Marrying you messed up my life. I see your face when I am dreaming. That’s why I always wake up screaming. Kind, intelligent, loving and hot; this describes everything you are not. I love your smile, you face and your eyes. Damn, I’m good at telling lies! My feelings for you, no words can tell, except for maybe “Go to hell”. What inspired this amazing rhyme? A bottle of tequila, one part lime!

Tragedy struck at Ballito's Salmon Bay area after a swimmer got caught in a rip current on Monday, 20 January 2014. According to Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, the 29-year-old swimmer apparently hit a rip current and was swept out to sea. “His friends watched him disappear under the water,” said Botha.

Limited job opportunities and retrenchments have resulted in high unemployment rates. As a result many parents cannot meet the educational needs of their children. The cancellation of grants and the lack of supportive resources also contribute to parent's inability to provide their children with their most basic need in education. Child support grants cater for children up to the age of 17 years. According to the new Children's Act, children can attend school up to the age of 21 years. Many widows and single parents with children over the age of 17-years have no source of income and are
