Memorial Day weekend is a busy time for everyone. Some have family commitments while others have graduations to attend. There are cemeteries to visit and loved ones to be honored. Parades and military ceremonies are held. And then there’s Conesville. Conesville, Iowa, home to the Circle of Pride MC’s annual Hog Wild Rodeo. If you don’t know where you’re going on Hwy 70, just north of Columbus Junction, just look for the two white pillars topped with gargoyles and the sign for Thirsty Camel. You might think, “This can’t be right! I’m driving down the middle of a field!” Then before you know it, there are signs of life - signs of a motorcycle party is more like it! The place might seem a little primitive at first glance, but the hosts have thought of everything. There are places to camp, shower, go to the bathroom, grab a cold drink or something to eat, vendors for shopping, stages for bands and other forms of entertainment, and of course, the infamous 1/8 mile drag strip. This year’s rally had several tribute bands for entertainment along with Cheryl the hypnotist. Back by popular demand were entertainers Rotten and Ross, Bob the Bull and the exotic pole dance show. With 3 stages for entertainment, plus the DJ who cranks out tunes all weekend at One Eyed Jacks, there is always something to do. If live music isn’t your thing, you can visit the vendors, stroll the grounds and look at the motorcycles, check out the bike show, or sit in the bleachers for some down-to-earth, serious drag racing. Once again, Motorcycle Specialty did a tremendous job organizing this race. Special thanks go out to F***man Charlie for his outstanding job emceeing the race. He fills in the time gaps with his unique and colorful commentary. On Sunday, rally attendees were treated to the annual motorcycle rodeo and contests. Participants are quick to share that it’s much harder than it looks to perform some of the “rodeo” tricks. Don’t miss the huge fall party, Thunder In The Sand, Labor Day weekend at Conesville!
