Bronze Star
Ages 10-13
The Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Star program develops swimming proficiency, lifesaving skill and personal fitness. Candidates refine their stroke mechanics, acquire self-rescue skills, and apply fitness principles in training workouts. Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Total Training Hours: 8 Hours

Bronze Medallion
Ages 13+
Bronze Medallion challenges the candidate both mentally and physically. Judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness – the four components of water rescue and form the basis of Bronze Medallion training. Candidates acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on and around the water. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for Assistant Lifeguard training in Bronze Cross. Includes: Lifesaving manual, pocket mask and whistle, Can be 12 years old if successfully completed Bronze star. Total Training Hours: 20 Hours

Bronze Cross
Ages 13+
The Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as Assistant Lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for National Lifeguard (NL) Must have: Lifesaving manual, pocket mask and whistle. Can be purchased if needed. Total training hours: 20 hour course.

National Lifeguard
Ages 15+
The National Lifeguard Pool Certification is designed to develop the fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness required by lifeguards. The National Lifeguard course emphasizes the lifeguarding skills, principles and practices, and the decision-making processes which will assist the lifeguard to provide effective safety supervision in swimming pool environments. Total training hours: 44 hour course.

SEAPARC is pleased to partner with the Rotary Club of Sooke to sponsor a National Lifeguard Course for EMCS students interested in pursuing a career in Aquatics. This course will be available in July 2022, and is FREE for those that are accepted into the program. To apply, please pick up a sponsorship application form at SEAPARC. For additional information, please contact eolsen@crd.bc.ca. Pre-requisites include completion of the Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, and Standard First Aid.
