This is best accomodation in FNQ and probably QLD. Most critical to that assessment is the willingness of Bob and Mel to cater to your needs. We have seriously tested their patience with a range of work related changes, adjustments and cancellations due to a local documentary shoot. It has been two years of constant postponements etc, but they have been willing and flexible to deal with these on a monthly basis without complaint (or at least, we don't hear them complaining!!) Very professional, personable and go way beyond what is expected and asked. Rooms are perfect for anyone, the ease in which check-in is performed, parking and accessibility as well as proximity to everything makes it an easy choice. Thoroughly recommend as your first and only stop on tour/holiday/business.

One of the best cabins \ park we have had the pleasure of staying at.
The best RV park on our Australian trip. We had a lovely, comfortable cabin with a nice little terrace. Everything is so tidy and clean. We loved the tropical plants, the huge pool. A good pub and bottle shop just a few steps away.
Nice BBQ area (have one dollar coins with you). Good laundry facilities.
Swirling eight irresistible froyo flavours daily
Load up on chocolates, fresh fruit, sauces and more
Nestled in the heart of Airlie Beach, Yo Love It is a pastel paradise of frozen yoghurt bliss.
There are places that feel like a pause button on the world, where the rush of daily life softens to the rhythm of waves against the shore and time seems to take a slower breath. Your shoulders drop, your breath steadies, and the horizon seems to lean in as if it has been waiting just for you.
Elysian Retreat is one of those places.
Folded into a private cove on Long Island in the Whitsundays, this intimate, soulful sanctuary marries the ease of an all-inclusive escape with the quiet pride of a property that treads lightly on its island home.
Getting there is half the wonder. A ten-minute helicopter flight from Hamilton Island or Airlie Beach lifts you above water so clear it looks lit from within. A thirty-minute boat ride from Hamilton Island or Shute Harbour brings you in by sea, the forested slopes of the national park rising behind the cove. However you arrive, you step into a world scaled to human pace, where there are never more than twenty guests and the soundtrack is water, wind and birdsong.
PARADISE, PERFECTED
The luxury villas are made for dreaming. Ten freestanding, air-conditioned, oceanfront spaces are crafted from Australian hardwoods with high
cathedral ceilings, large windows and private decks that frame an ever-changing palette of reef and rainforest. Some offer outdoor rain showers, some add an extra deck and daybed, and one very private hideaway includes its own plunge pool. There are hammocks for long, bookish afternoons, outdoor showers for washing off the sea, and ensuites stocked with organic amenities. If you like to feel the elements while still wrapped in comfort, this is your place.
FRESH
Elysian is as much about flavour as it is about stillness. On arrival, you meet with a host to share preferences and dietary needs. From there, each meal becomes a small event.
Breakfast is unhurried and begins at eight, a daily changing menu built on seasonal produce and what is ripe in the island garden. Lunch might be an al fresco pause by the pool, or a picnic hamper tucked into a day of sailing, fishing or exploring. As the sun eases toward Conway National Park, guests gather for pre-dinner canapés by the firepit and complimentary non alcoholic drinks.
Dinner is a three-course conversation between chef and place, served in the open pavilion with the bay just beyond. The menu leans into the Whitsundays’ pantry, from Bowen’s farms to local fishermen bringing in prawns, Moreton Bay bugs
and wild-caught reef fish. If you land a fish on a day charter, the chef is delighted to make it the star of your evening plate.
Every dish is created with a level of care that feels deeply personal, whether you are a devoted carnivore, a passionate vegan or somewhere in between. Each plate is tailored to your tastes, and it is this attention that leaves guests not only satisfied but astonished. Many leave Elysian raving about meals that exceeded every expectation, calling the dining experience as unforgettable as the view.
For those who enjoy a well-paired drop with their meal, the wine list is thoughtfully curated and, refreshingly, priced on par with the mainland.
The spa is called Jala, the element of water. Treatments draw on Ayurveda and use Australianmade products from Edible Beauty and Subtle Energies, chosen for their botanicals and their results. It is the kind of spa where time stretches, where you walk out feeling rebalanced, not merely pampered. Wellness here is not a checklist. It is the sum of swims and stretches and long, candlelit meals, of sleep that comes easily and mornings that begin without an alarm.
The heart of the retreat is its magnesium infinity
pool, set like a mirror to the bay. The water carries its own health benefits, easing sore muscles, quieting busy minds and coaxing deep, restorative sleep. Around it, the day unfolds with a leisurely rhythm. The morning might begin with yoga by the ocean, led by an instructor whose calm presence is matched only by the rise and fall of the tide. Later, you might paddle a kayak across the sheltered bay, try stand-up paddleboarding, or drift with a mask and snorkel over coral gardens, eyes peeled for a passing turtle.
Part of the charm is how considered everything feels. The retreat runs on solar power and has made a significant investment in large battery storage to keep everything running alongside nature, even on the cloudiest of days.
Service is personal and unpretentious. The team is small, attentive and genuinely proud of what they do. With only ten villas, you are never just a room number. You are a person with a story, a palate and a pace, and the staff seems to intuit all three within hours of your arrival.
For those who seek adventure with their exhale, options abound. Slip away on boutique small

group or private boat tours exclusive to Elysian guests, where the crowds vanish and the Whitsundays unfold in their most intimate, unspoilt form. Lift off in a helicopter to trace Heart Reef’s perfect curves before touching down on a deserted sand spit for a gourmet picnic, the horizon your only companion. For those drawn to the water’s edge, Elysian offers access to private fishing or dive charters with trusted partners, where each cast or dive reveals the reef’s untamed beauty. And when the call of stillness grows louder, you may simply linger with the tides, doing blissfully little at all.

Elysian also loves to look after locals, offering an exclusive discount for residents with proof of address — a little extra reason to enquire directly and make paradise part of your own backyard
Non-powered water activities are included, from kayaks to paddleboards to snorkelling gear, so you can move between action and idleness without thinking about the bill.
Elysian suits travellers who love the idea of an island all to themselves, who prefer conversations by firelight to crowded bars, who believe luxury is a sense of ease rather than a show of scale. It
If wanderlust is tugging at you, consider this your sign. Let the helicopter lift you above the reef, let the boat carry you into the cove, let the island slow your thoughts and sweeten your sleep. Your chapter at Elysian begins with a simple choice.

Step into Mexicasa Restaurant & Bar at the Drovers Rest Motel in Moranbah and let your taste buds take a journey straight to the heart of Mexico. In this miners’ town, Mexicasa is more than just a meal, it’s an authentic Mexican experience, crafted with passion by Head Chef and Owner Veronica O’Dwyer.
The spotlight is on the Mama’s Special, a plate that feels like a warm embrace. Tender, creamy chicken breasts are cooked to perfection with vibrant capsicum and onion, all smothered in a smoky, rich chipotle sauce. Served alongside a colourful mix of rice and vegetables, every bite is a comforting explosion of flavour that dances on the palate. It’s hearty, it’s bold, and it’s pure Mexican soul on a plate.
But the feast doesn’t stop there. From Taco Tuesday through to weekend nights, Mexicasa offers a spread of irresistible options: cheesy chicken or beef enchiladas, loaded nachos, hand-pressed sopes, indulgent burritos, sizzling fajitas, and for dessert, sweet churros or moist peach cake to round out the meal. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeaway, the flavours are as vibrant as the culture they come from.
Mexicasa serves up this authentic taste of México: Monday to Saturday, with lunch from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, dinner from 6 pm to 10 pm, and late-night Saturdays from 6 pm to midnight.
Come for the Mama’s Special, stay for the atmosphere, and leave with your heart… and stomach, full! In Moranbah, Mexicasa isn’t just food; it’s an experience worth savouring.

Where there’s smoke, there’s flavour, and in the Whitsundays, one butcher is turning up the heat with authentic Low N Slow barbecue.
As the region’s only caterer specialising in this style, Low N Slow BBQ Catering serves up smoky treats you won’t find anywhere else in paradise.
Alex Wordsworth and Danielle Carr, the owners, are on a mission to make barbecue as accessible as possible. Their fully self-sufficient setup allows them to arrive with their trailer and cater events anywhere, from backyards and paddocks to sheds, regardless of size. “We wanted to offer something that’s convenient and reasonably priced, something that makes catering easy for everyone,” they explain, highlighting their focus on making every event stress-free.
The aroma of smouldering wood, the rich sizzle as meat hits the smoker, and the slow infusion of flavour create a dining experience that is as much about the show as it is about the food. “It’s all about the showmanship. We pull a whole brisket out of the smoke and slice it in front of our guests so they can see just how fresh it is,” the team says, emphasising that every event is part theatre, part feast. Whitsunday Low N Slow offers catering packages for gatherings of all sizes, starting from just 20 people. Guests can choose from two experiences: Hot BBQ delivery, for delicious smoked meats and fresh sides without the fuss, or the whole smoker experience, where the team brings the smoker on-site for a memorable event. The menu goes beyond meats, featuring smoky appetisers like chicken nibbles and wings, burger sliders, and lamb kofta sticks, as well as hearty sides including smoked mac and cheese, potato bake, pasta salad, Outback cold slaw, and crisp garden salads. Whether for an intimate gathering or a larger celebration, the packages bring flavour, convenience, and the signature Low N Slow WOW
factor straight to the table.
Alongside catering, the team hosts Smoker Nights at Master Butcher’s Whitsunday, where locals can enjoy platters of perfectly smoked meat accompanied by all the sides. They also package and sell a selection of smoked meats and sides through all 3 Master Butchers retail stores, bringing the Low ’n’ Slow experience straight to dinner tables across the Whitsundays.
Their highly skilled chef, Daniel O’Brien, who has been behind the stove for 25 years, explains how the smoker transforms the meat: “Smoked meat like this will last 10 to 12 weeks when stored properly.” He adds, “The flavour is incredible, and we use our own range of rubs on top to make it even better.”
Every cut is a treat, infused with smoke, layered with spices, and cooked to perfection. But the team agree that the beef ribs are their standout favourite. With tender, juicy meat that falls off the bone and a smoky crust bursting with flavour, it is easy to see why these ribs steal the show. From small backyard gatherings to full-blown weddings, Danielle says, “It’s amazing to see it grow from a casual Friday afternoon feed to a full wedding buffet, and we’ve only had great feedback.”
Combining expert technique, high-quality ingredients, and a sense of fun, Low N Slow BBQ Catering brings both flavour and theatre to every table, making it a true highlight of the Whitsundays food scene.
With this year already nearly fully booked, Alex and Danielle are turning their attention to 2026, opening their calendar for bookings. Fans of the Whitsundays’ most flavour-packed barbecue would be wise to keep an eye on their socials and secure their spot early because with demand this high, the seats at the smoker’s table are sure to fill fast.
For many, a trip to the grocery store is routine. But stepping into Airlie Health Hub in the Whitsundays and it feels different, fresh, vibrant, and alive with the scent of real food. Here, organic isn’t a marketing buzzword; it’s a way of life.
The philosophy is simple: know where your food comes from, and know the people who grow it. Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food. Hayley and Paul Moran work directly with our local farmers and collect produce when it has been freshly harvested them they transport it directly to their store. No middleman whatsoever.
“We want to see it grow. We want to know our farmers who grow our food. We want to have a real connection back to food again,” Hayley said.
Choosing organic isn’t only about taste. Studies show that after just three days of eating organic,
pesticide levels in the body can drop by 96 per cent. Many customers come in after struggling with illness, fatigue, or digestive issues, and leave feeling transformed by the simple act of eating clean food grown without harmful chemicals. Organic living supports better sleep, clearer thinking, more sustainable energy, and overall wellbeing, benefits that shoppers who have made the switch to Airlie Health Hub have started to notice.
But Airlie Health Hub goes further than fresh fruit and vegetables. Shelves are stocked with natural supplements, organic coffee, eco-friendly skincare, and refillable household products. Everything is chosen with care, guided by the principle: seeking the most natural, pure and clean products.
Shopping here is as much about community as it is about food. Regulars are greeted by name, advice is shared freely, and the atmosphere
feels like a gathering of friends rather than a store. Sustainability is part of the ethos too, with packaging minimised, customers donating and using reusable jars, and local farmers are supported whenever possible.
Organic living isn’t always more expensive. Often, freshly picked local produce can be cheaper than supermarket fare. But the true value lies in freshness, taste, nourishment, sustainability, and connection.
At Airlie Health Hub, shopping is no longer a chore, it’s a lifestyle choice, an investment in your health, and a chance to reconnect with the food you eat, the people who grow it, and the community around you.

ngham is home to many hidden gems, but few capture the essence of the region quite like Wild Local. More than just a seafood shop, this family-run and proudly local business has become a showcase of Hinchinbrook’s abundance. Wild Local has become a must-stop destination for travellers and a favourite for locals who know that nothing beats the taste of fresh, wild-caught North Queensland seafood.
Step inside and you’ll find the very best our region has to offer as the bountiful displays speak for themselves: gleaming fresh fillets, an extensive frozen range, and seasonal specialties that highlight the waters and coastline shaping our community. Whether you are planning a barbecue feast, a weekend dinner, or a quick family meal, Wild Local makes it easy to bring the best of the region straight to your plate.
The café side of Wild Local has become just as popular. Open seven days a week, it serves everything from classic fish and chips to wholesome meals perfect for a mid-journey stop. For those with a sweet tooth, the creamy ice cream in fantastical flavours is a highlight, while freshly roasted coffee and gourmet pantry staples make it hard to leave empty-handed.
What makes Wild Local stand out is its commitment to celebrating place as much as produce. Every item on the shelves and menu tells a story of connection to Hinchinbrook’s waterways, farms, and small producers. It is a space where food becomes more than a meal: it becomes a link to the people and landscapes that define North Queensland living.
Next time you’re in Ingham, discover Wild Local, and take home more than just seafood – take home a piece of Hinchinbrook.
alfway between Townsville and Cairns lies a town that dances to its own rhythm, a blend of European charm, Indigenous heritage, and Tropical wonder.
Cruising down the Bruce Highway located about 115 kilometres north of Townsville, the world begins to shift. The air feels thicker with stories, the greens grow deeper, and the pace of life gradually slows. As you pass through corridors of sugar cane fields and ancient rainforest fringed roads, a town quietly tucked beneath the mountains invites you to stay a little longer. This is Ingham.
More than just a stop along the highway, Ingham is a soulful detour into North Queensland’s cultural heart. Ingham isn’t flashy. It doesn’t try to be. But what it offers is something quite rare; a sense of place that lingers long after the journey ends. This is a region built for postcards and buckets lists with the highest single drop waterfall Wallaman Falls at 268 metres and the Lucinda Jetty, the longest service jetty in the Southern Hemisphere, stretching a staggering 5.76 kilometres out to sea.
Love to fish? You’re in the right place. Cast a line from the pristine beaches along the Hinchinbrook coastline, the Lucinda and Dungeness jetties, or venture into the freshwater reaches of the Herbert River Gorge. Chase barramundi through the winding Hinchinbrook
Channel, or head offshore for bluewater and reef fishing on the Great Barrier Reef. Coveted the world over, Hinchinbrook offers some of the best fishing experiences set amongst picture postcard scenery.
For the adventurers, Lucinda is your gateway to the World Heritage listed Hinchinbrook Island. Take on the legendary Thorsborne Trail, considered one of the world’s best multi-day hikes, for unspoiled beauty and true wilderness immersion.
With a wealth of natural wonders, the Hinchinbrook region is the perfect place to reset your mind, body, and soul. Whether you’re rolling in with a caravan, camper, motorhome or just a tent and a sense of adventure, there’s a camping spot waiting for you. Prefer a few more
creature comforts? Ingham and surrounds offer a wide range of stays, from comfy motels and stylish apartments to holiday homes, B&Bs, and classic hotels, whatever your travel style. It’s your adventure.
Ingham isn’t about ticking boxes, it’s about connection. To culture, to nature, to stories written in both stone and song. It’s the kind of place that invites you in with a glass of Prosecco and a plate of olives and leaves you wondering why more people haven’t discovered it yet. So don’t just drive through on your way to somewhere else. Stop. Wander the streets. Soak in the slower tempo. Because Ingham is the kind of place that doesn’t shout for your attention, but rewards those who give it. It’s the Hinchinbrook Way!
Oh Wow! Those are the two most common words guests say as they arrive at Vista Hinchinbrook.
After the steep drive through the rainforest, stroll along our side deck and past the beautiful pond. Then, as you step onto the front deck, the Hinchinbrook Channel bursts into view. Glory in the unique panorama of this World Heritage listed area adjoining Girringun National Park.
This is your breakfast arena, or perhaps you have come for one of our famed High Teas. Here, the sweeping outlook of one of the best views in North Queensland, pairs perfectly with homemade savouries, decadent cakes, and locally sourced tea and coffee. There is no rush to leave. Take your time, relax with friends, and enjoy a beer or wine from our bar.
Of course, you might be arriving for a night’s stay in one of our four luxury units. Perhaps a cabin tucked back among the rainforest,
designed for comfort and seclusion. Or for a romantic escape, you may have reserved the Mahogany Cabin. Perched towards the front of the property, this stunningly designed apartment, offers all you need, from the king bed where you will wake to uninterrupted panoramic views, to the bathroom… well, we will let you discover that for yourself.
Maybe you are one of the growing number of guests here for a special event. Whether private or corporate, our large deck means we can tailor the space to fit your needs.
And then, those words again: Oh Wow! You have come for a wedding. With this backdrop, your day will be truly unforgettable. Do not miss the chance to make your special event extraordinary. Contact us, or better yet, pop up to see us in person, we would love to meet you.

etween Cairns and Townsville lies the Cassowary Coast, where the lush Wet Tropics Rainforest meets the sparkling Great Barrier Reef, creating a destination brimming with adventure, wildlife, and serenity.
Your journey begins with 14 kilometres of palm-fringed beaches stretching from Bingil Bay through Mission Beach to South Mission Beach, ideal for coastal walks, beach lounging, or reef-bound paddling. Just offshore, Hinchinbrook and Dunk Islands offer island magic with forested trails, secluded beaches, and camping opportunities in a near-pristine setting. Hinchinbrook is home to the legendary 32 kilometre Thorsborne Trail, considered one of Australia’s greatest coastal hikes.
Venture inland to explore the ancient Wet Tropics Rainforest filled with towering trees, vibrant birdlife, and rich biodiversity. At the Mamu Tropical Skywalk, you can glide above the canopy and immerse yourself in this prehistoric wonderland. For a refreshing detour, stop by the Cardwell Spa Pool’s striking blue waters or hike the scenic Gorrell Track
and Coastal Walking Track for rainforest views and dramatic ocean vistas.
Spotting a southern cassowary, a large, endangered, flightless bird, is a rare highlight here. These iconic rainforest dwellers roam from forest edges to beaches, giving this region its evocative name.
For foodies and market-lovers, the journey south from Cairns is peppered with fresh produce stands and cafés serving local specialties. Stop at Babinda Bakery for delicious buns or try gourmet vanilla products at Broken Nose Vanilla closer to Cardwell.
Luxurious rest stops blend seamlessly with wild beauty. The recently rejuvenated Elandra Hotel offers upscale rooms, a day spa and contemporary Southeast Asian cuisine using local produce.
Whether you are craving immersive hikes, wildlife encounters, coastal calm, or gourmet comfort, the Cassowary Coast invites you to unwind, explore, and discover the wild heart of Far North Queensland.
askets packed, blankets rolled, sun hats on—Magnetic Island is picnic paradise.

Whether you’re after family-friendly convenience or a secret spot to spread your rug in peace, the island makes picnicking feel like an adventure in itself.

Well, it’s kinda in the name. With its heritage jetty stretching into the sea and a palm-dotted foreshore, Picnic Bay feels like it was built for long, lazy lunches. Families love it here. You’ve got tables, shade, shops and even a chance to cast a line off the jetty. If you want your picnic with easy access and a laid-back vibe, start here.
Alma Bay
Safe, sandy and central, Alma Bay is a favourite for good reason. The grassy foreshore is perfect for blankets and there’s lifeguard patrols when the water warms up. Kids can swim, parents can relax, and everyone can grab a cool drink nearby when the day heats up. It’s a straightforward choice for a carefree picnic that ticks all the boxes.
The island’s big one. Horseshoe Bay is Maggie’s largest beach, with room to spread out under palms or roll your rug on the wide grassed area behind the sand. Cafés and shops line the street, meaning you can mix homemade sandwiches with a cheeky gelato. If your crew is large, or you like a buzz of activity nearby, Horseshoe Bay is the picnic spot that delivers.
Florence Bay
For those who like their picnics with a splash of discovery, Florence Bay is worth the effort. Reached by walking tracks, it opens up to a crescent of golden sand and water so clear you’ll want to snorkel straight off the beach. With no facilities, you’ll need to bring everything in (and take it out), but that’s part of its secret charm.
Arthur Bay
Quiet and sheltered, Arthur Bay is like Florence’s little sister—just as pretty, a little more intimate, and perfect if you’re after a small-scale picnic away from the crowds. The bay is ringed with headlands and reef, so after your sandwiches, you can snorkel among tropical fish. No shops, no noise, just you and the sea.
For the true explorers. Radical Bay (and neighbouring Balding Bay) have always been the domain of those happy to hike for their lunch spot. Recently improved walking tracks make access easier, but the vibe remains the same: rugged, wild, and secluded. Spread your picnic rug on the sand and let the world disappear.
Magnetic Island is an easy 20-minute ferry from Townsville, docking at Nelly Bay where local buses and taxis connect the bays. Horseshoe, Alma and Picnic Bay are the easiest for families, with shops, cafés and facilities nearby. For Florence, Arthur and Radical Bay, wear decent shoes, carry water and be ready for a walk through national park tracks. Shade is limited at some of the more remote spots, so a beach umbrella can be a lifesaver. And don’t forget stinger suits in the summer months—they’ll let you snorkel and swim safely before heading back to your picnic rug.
So grab your basket, pack it full, and pick your bay. On Magnetic Island, the hardest part isn’t finding the perfect picnic spot, but deciding which one to try first.
hether you’re making your way up the East Coast or putting your feet up in Townsville for a wonderful weekend escape, there are plenty of delicious delights to explore in and around the bustling and upand-coming seaside city that your tastebuds deserve to experience! Rather than pencil you in for a single reservation, here’s a guide to neighbourhoods, and hot spots where eating is as much about the place as it is the plate…
Right on the city’s doorstep lies the sandy shore of The Strand where eating, sunbathing and strolling all exist in perfect harmony. Picture starting out your day with a beachside acai bowl topped with fresh fruit and raw honey whilst sipping your way through an ice-cold latte as joggers and morning walkers pass you by. As the temperatures begin to climb, the shade of the trees lining the 2.2-kilometre-long pathway will provide the perfect cover for a blissful picnic by the waves, complete with a smorgasbord of classic fish and chips, fresh prawns, and tropical fruits from local vendors around the area.
The location’s abundance of free barbeque spaces allows for late afternoons to become a hive of grilling activity, and the selection of highquality butchers neighbouring the strip will leave you overwhelmed with delicious options. As the
sun begins to set, the esplanade transforms into a grazing trail overflowing with hot chips and quick bites, gelato strolls along the foreshore, and vibrant sunset platters topped with mango, pineapple, and lime – perfection!
The Laneway
Take a wander a block back from the waterfront and you’ll discover Townsville’s laneway culture, featuring aesthetic courtyards and muralsplashed alleyways tucked neatly away from the busy city streets. A shire first, the Laneway precinct offers a sophisticated, New York City experience where patrons can indulge in share plates, pop-up menus, and craft sips – ideal for causal grazing with friends.
No two occasions will be the same as the area runs off rotating specials built around the picks of the local trawlers and growers – think coral trout sliders one day, grilled vegetable flatbread the next, complete with native herbs like lemon myrtle. The Laneway exists as the type of place where you simply follow your nose, or the fairy lights, to guide you to your next unforgettable plate.
Sunday strolls through Townsville’s iconic Cotters Market will have you indulging in
homegrown favourites and handcrafted delights from 8:30am right through until 1pm each and every week at Flinders Square. A treasured weekly event, Cotters Market have been treating locals and travellers alike to a buffet of spectacular stalls since 1983 and will leave you with a deep love and appreciation for Townsville’s rich sense of community. Suitable for all ages, all abilities, and all breeds (pet friendly), the market prides itself on serving up delicious delights to suit all dietary needs including gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian – what more could you ask for!
Immerse yourself in the rich, rural, rainforestrimmed high country of Townsville’s surrounding areas as you journey inland to experience a true, authentic farm to table dining experience like no other. On your journey to the surrounds of Paluma, or the rolling cane fields towards the Burdekin, stop and enjoy the roadside stalls retailing fresh mangoes, halved watermelons, or leafy greens, freshly picked and ready to eat.
In Townsville, the abundance of culinary destinations will leave your mouth watering with anticipation, and your heart longing for your next journey to the North-Eastern costal city. With so many irresistible options to choose from, you may just need to set aside some holiday time to experience them all… twice!
orget the fancy guidebooks—if you really want to taste a town, follow the locals. In Home Hill, the food story plays out along the Main Street, where family-owned spots dish up big flavours, hearty feeds and plenty of character. From seafood rolls to steak burgers, here’s where to eat like a local.
The Prawn Shop
It’s hard to walk past this one. Famous for its prawn rolls—the kind that made national television—The Prawn Shop is seafood royalty in the Burdekin. The menu dives deeper, with crab and lobster rolls, gluten-free options and fresh local produce that keeps the flavour front and centre.
Marzay’s Corner
A Home Hill staple, Marzay’s serves the kind of comfort food that hits the spot every time. Think pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, steak burgers, fish
and wraps—the works. It’s casual, reliable, and the perfect place to roll in hungry and roll out satisfied.
Giovanna’s Cucina
Ask around the Burdekin and everyone knows about Giovanna’s lasagne. This family-run Italian kitchen has a reputation that stretches well beyond Main Street, with travellers stopping in for hearty plates of pasta, traditional flavours, and a menu cooked with care. If you want Italian like Nonna makes, this is where you’ll find it.
Dee & Vee’s Takeaway
Eleven years strong, Dee & Vee’s is the no-fuss takeaway joint locals swear by. The menu is short, sharp and perfect: fish, chips, burgers. Done. Their steak burgers are the stuff of local legend, and there’s a reason this little shop has been feeding Home Hill for over a decade.
More than just your average newsagent. Coffee, brekkie bites, sweet treats and a spot to sit inside for a chat—Home Hill News is where locals fuel up in the morning or break up the day. It’s as much about the yarns as the cappuccinos, and that’s exactly what makes it feel like home.
So, next time you’re in Home Hill, skip the highway stopovers. Wander Main Street, follow your nose, and eat like a local.
Since WWII, QRI Lifestyle’s Bowen Hall has stood as a pillar of the Bowen community. It’s seen people married, birthdays celebrated, moments shared, and generations of families pass through its doors, forever enshrined in the fondest memories of thousands of locals.
From 1 September, it continues to do just that— but now with greater comfort, style, versatility and modern technology than ever before.
Following long-awaited renovations that began in April, Bowen Hall has reopened its doors to the public with a fully upgraded interior and exterior, ready to serve as a much-needed multi-purpose space for the Bowen region.
“There was a big gap in the community for a more versatile venue that you can use for anything,” said QRI Lifestyle’s Bowen Liaison Prue Kearney-Pauli. “Now you can use it for anything from corporate meetings to morning teas.”
The revamp has bolstered both the hall’s functionality and aesthetic appeal. Air conditioning, insulation, fresh paint, a modern kitchen with a 900mm oven, a Bain-Marie, a
commercial fridge, a dishwasher, and a bar area enhance functionality. At the same time, a 75” SMART TV and interactive whiteboard make it ideal for workshops, corporate events, and community presentations. Large glass doors and windows with storm shutters, updated barbecues, and a fully lined interior give the hall a contemporary, welcoming look while preserving its historic structure.
“It hadn’t been shown any love for quite a long time,” said Prue Kearney-Pauli. “[Representatives from QRI’s head office] saw that it was under utilised and said, “It needs some love. Let’s get it up to scratch so that everyone can use it.”
For Kearney-Pauli, the hall’s value goes beyond bricks and mortar. “It’s a gathering place for everyone. It has hosted many milestone events over the years. It’s a place that everyone in town can use, and everyone knows where it is—I’d say just about everyone in town has been there at some point.”
QRI Lifestyle, the not-for-profit organisation behind Bowen Hall, has supported Queenslanders for over 130 years. Initially serving the railway community, it now offers
a diverse membership open to all. Members enjoy benefits including discounts on groceries, fuel, and over 440 global brands, priority and discounted bookings at Bowen Hall, as well as exclusive holiday apartments, scholarships, travel, concert tickets, sporting and social events.
The official reopening of Bowen Hall is scheduled for Sunday, October 19, at 12:00 p.m. The community is invited to experience the upgraded venue, with local businesses showcasing their services, food trucks on site, and an opportunity to see the hall’s cutting-edge facilities firsthand.
As Bowen prepares to celebrate the hall’s return, Kearney-Pauli said it was equally important to celebrate the businesses that helped make it happen.
“We’d like to thank Megasealed Bowen, Rick Ashton Electrical, Pilcher Industries, and Refrigerated Technologies, without whose help we would not have been up and running so quickly! And we gratefully acknowledge the kind donation from Reece Plumbing and the advice of the team at Mitre 10,” Kearney-Pauli added.

Nestled in the heart of the Whitsundays, Bowen isn’t just a tropical paradise—it’s the beating heart of North Queensland’s agricultural landscape. Known as the “food bowl of the north,” Bowen produces an impressive variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables that feed the nation, particularly during the winter.
From May to November, Bowen bursts to life with produce like capsicums, tomatoes, eggplants, beans, corn, and zucchinis. These sunripened vegetables thrive in Bowen’s warm climate and fertile red soils. The region also boasts world-renowned Kensington Pride mangoes, harvested between October and December. Their golden sweetness is so iconic, it inspired one of the region’s favourite treats—the creamy and refreshing Bowen Mango Sorbet, a must-try for any visitor and available at the Bowen Information Centre just off the highway. Look for the Bog Mango, and you’ll have arrived!
The farming community here is tight-knit, with generations of growers who take immense pride in sustainable farming practices. Their dedication not only feeds Australia but also supports local economies and offers unique agri-tourism experiences. Many farms open their gates for seasonal tours, giving visitors an authentic glimpse into life on the land. You can pick your own produce, meet the farmers, and learn how your food makes its journey from paddock to plate.
For travellers seeking a blend of coastal beauty and culinary adventure, Bowen offers the best of both. Wander the beaches in the morning, sample fresh-picked tomatoes at lunch, and cool down in the afternoon with a scoop of mango sorbet straight from the source.
Whether you’re a foodie, nature lover, or simply chasing the sun, Bowen delivers a taste of regional Australia that’s as genuine as it is delicious.

here are few places in Australia where the line between tropical relaxation and vibrant nightlife blurs so effortlessly as Airlie Beach. At Airlie Sun & Sand, guests are invited to embrace the best of both worlds: the electric energy of the Whitsundays’ party capital and the calm, elevated sanctuary of private, spacious accommodation.
Located on Airlie’s buzzing main street, this boutique property sits just steps away from the town’s famed nightlife, restaurants, and lagoon precinct. By day, you can stroll the foreshore or sip coffee at one of the many cafés at your doorstep. By night, the atmosphere comes alive with live music, bustling bars, and the unmistakable hum of Airlie’s coastal spirit. And when it’s time to retreat, your private apartment is a welcoming home away from home; comfortable, quiet, and thoughtfully designed for relaxation after a day of adventure. Each apartment has been thoughtfully designed to balance convenience with comfort. Whether you’re travelling as a couple, a family, or with a group of friends, Airlie Sun & Sand offers a range of layouts to suit. Studio apartments provide the
perfect hideaway for two, while multi-room options comfortably accommodate families or groups looking to share the experience without sacrificing privacy. Families with young children, in particular, will appreciate the ability to immerse themselves in the heart of the action while still enjoying a safe, family-friendly environment.
Inside, every detail has been considered. Guests can expect comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms, and practical kitchenettes complete with fridge, microwave, and tea-and-coffee provisions — including a traditional touch of biscuits with your brew. While self-catering is always an option, most guests will find the lure of surrounding restaurants impossible to resist, as the aromas of international and tropical cuisine spill out onto the street.
The charm of Airlie Sun & Sand extends outdoors, where a communal deck invites you to soak up the vibrant street life without ever leaving your sanctuary. It’s this elevated positioning — close enough to feel part of the action, yet private enough to relax — that sets the property apart from Airlie’s backpacker hostels and larger resorts.
For those hosting a celebration, Airlie Sun & Sand can transform into the ultimate gathering space. With multiple apartments and a sprawling deck equipped with BBQ, seating, and ambient lighting, it’s an idyllic setting for birthday parties, reunions, or a friends’ getaway. The atmosphere is as flexible as the accommodation: lively and festive when you want it, or calm and restful when you don’t.
Traditional hospitality meets modern convenience here. Self-check-in with secure key safes removes any stress around arrival times, while laundry facilities make extended stays easy. The location also ensures effortless transport — the bus stop is at the door, taxis and tuk-tuks are never far, and the sparkling lagoon is just across the road.
Airlie Sun & Sand is more than accommodation; it’s an experience. For couples seeking an adventurous getaway, families wanting connection, or groups chasing the perfect Whitsundays escape, this is the place where coastal energy and personal sanctuary meet.
Salt in the air, cold drinks, live music, and meals made for mateship… that’s the beating heart of the Seabreeze Hotel at Lamberts Beach, a true coastal gem where the ocean views rival the entertainment line-up.
Fresh off the launch of their new menu in July, the team has kicked things up a notch.
Midweek sees the Parmi Feast take centre stage, with six mouth-watering variations of the Aussie classic, served Tuesday to Thursday. Seafood lovers are spoilt for choice with share-friendly platters, mezze boards, buckets of prawns, or beef brisket tacos for something a little heartier.
Weekends are made for steak lovers, with Rump It Up Fridays through Sundays – a juicy 250g rump, cooked to perfection, served with chips and salad or mash and veg, plus your pick of toppers for just $35. Choices include garlic prawns, mornay, onion rings, salt & pepper calamari, sautéed mushrooms, and Sicilian meatballs.
But it’s not just the food that has locals and visitors flocking. Entertainment is where the Seabreeze shines. From comedy to grunge tributes, Aussie rock classics to soulful blues, the hotel has become one of the region’s hottest live music destinations.
Looking further ahead, the horizon is packed, as 2025 and 2026 promise “a tonne of entertainment” with ticketed shows plus free live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
It’s a guaranteed good time whether you’re chasing big names or grassroots talent by the sea.
With its unbeatable location, coastal flavours, and entertainment calendar bursting at the seams, the Seabreeze Hotel is where Mackay comes alive.
