Beste deelnemers, genodigden en bezoekers, Wij zijn trots om u te mogen ontvangen op de 63ste editie van het Europees Muziekfestival voor de Jeugd in Neerpelt. Dit instrumentaal Festival zal opnieuw gekenmerkt worden door een groot aantal jeugdige deelnemers van verschillende nationaliteiten en de unieke sfeer van verbondenheid die ons Festival onder zijn deelnemers creëert. Bijzonder dit jaar is zeker dat wij onze 200.000ste deelnemer zullen ontvangen, een mooi bewijs dat wij er in slagen om de kernboodschappen van ons Festival mee te laten evolueren met de tijd echter zonder afbreuk te doen aan de waarden van de eerste dag. Een van de basisdoelstellingen van een instrumentale uitgave laat zich samenvatten tot “jongeren positief stimuleren om muziek te maken”. Elk woord van deze zin krijgt bij elke editie extra aandacht en invulling. In het kader van de “Week van de Amateurkunsten” die dit jaar focust op “lokale muzikale helden”, zullen we tijdens ons Festival extra aandacht besteden aan jonge mensen die de liefde voor het maken van muziek kunnen uitstralen naar anderen. Hierbij maakt de stijl van muziek of het muziekinstrument een keer niet uit. Klassiek, rock of jazz, een viool, gitaar of een ijzeren vat, het zijn allemaal elementen die jongeren kunnen aanzetten om muziek te maken. Dit jaar zal het aanbod aan activiteiten voor het publiek en deelnemers, zoals de juryconcerten, laureatenconcerten, Happening, Five Dimensions, A Taste of Neerpelt en het Northern Nights Festival, een extreem gevarieerd programma bieden voor elke muziekliefhebber. Het Festival dankt de Europese Gemeenschap, de Vlaamse Gemeenschap, de Provincie Limburg, de Gemeente Neerpelt, de diverse sponsors, de vrienden van het Festival en de vele vrijwilligers voor hun structurele ondersteuning en sympathie. Dear participants, guests and visitors, We are proud to welcome you to the 63rd edition of the European Music Festival for Young People in Neerpelt. This instrumental edition will again be characterized by a large number of young participants of various nationalities and the unique atmosphere of solidarity that our Festival creates among them. Very special this year is that we will receive our 200,000th participant, a charming signal that we are succeeding in letting the core messages of our Festival evolve with time, however, without bringing any harm to the basic values. One of the basic objectives of an instrumental edition can be summarized as “positively encourage young people to make music”. Every word of this sentence is given extra attention and interpretation with every edition. In the philosophy of the “Week of Amateur Arts” which, this year, focuses on “local musical heroes”, we will, during our Festival, pay special attention to young people that display the love of making music to others. For once the style of music or musical instrument is of no significance. Classical, rock or jazz, a violin, guitar or an iron barrel, these are all elements that can encourage young people to make music. This year, the range of activities for the public and participants, will offer an extremely varied program for all music lovers, like jury concerts, laureate concerts, Happening, Five Dimensions, A Taste of Neerpelt and the Northern Nights Festival. The Festival thanks the European Community, the Flemish Community, the Province of Limburg, the Neerpelt authorities, various sponsors and friends of the Festival as well as the many volunteers for their structural support and sympathy. JURYLEDEN JURY MEMBERS Henrie Adams Macastre - Spanje Henrie Adams studeerde hobo en orkestdirectie aan het Conservatorium van Maastricht. Hij was actief als dirigent van meerdere orkesten in Nederland, Spanje, Zwitserland en de VS. Sinds 1989 is hij de succesvolle chef-dirigent van de Banda Sinfóncia de la Sociedad Musical “La Artistica” te Buñol, Spanje. Henrie Adams studied oboe and conducting at the Conservatory of Maastricht. He was active as conductor of several orchestras in the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the USA. Since 1989 he is successful as Chief conductor of the Banda Sinfóncia de la Sociedad Musical “La Artistica” in Buñol, Spain. www.henrieadams.es

Arild Andersen Skien – Noorwegen Arild Andersen studeerde fluit aan het “Østlandets” Conservatorium van Oslo en muziekdirectie aan de Muziekacademie van Riga. Hij is fluitist in meerdere orkesten en een succesvol dirigent van meerdere amateur- en professionele orkesten en koren waarmee hij goede resultaten behaalt in binnen- en buitenland. Hij is tevens jurylid in verschillende nationale en internationale wedstrijden. Arild Andersen studied flute at “Østlandets” Musikkonservatorium in Oslo and conducting at the Music Academy in Riga. He is a flute player in various orchestras and a successful conductor of many amateur and professional orchestras and choirs, achieving good results in Norway and abroad. He also is adjudicator at several national and international competitions.

Anders Åstrand Stockholm – Zweden Anders Åstrand is een slaghamerspecialist die regelmatig over de hele wereld optreedt en workshops geeft. Hij legt de focus op melodisch en ritmisch improviseren en maakte hierin meerdere composities. Hij werkt samen met verschillende internationale muzikanten, is opleidingsconsultant en leidde diverse muziekprojecten. Anders Åstrand is a mallet specialist who regularly performs and gives workshops throughout the world. He focusses on melodic and rhythmical improvisation and has made various compositions. He collaborates with a lot of international musicians, is education consultant and has led several projects. www.andersastrand.com

JURYLEDEN JURY MEMBERS John Beck Canandaigua – US John Beck studeerde percussie aan de Eastman faculteit in Rochester waar hij later professor en professor emeritus percussie werd. Hij is als docent en als percussionist, paukenist en marimbasolist actief over de hele wereld. Hij dirigeert eveneens verschillende percussie-ensembles en is jurylid in meerdere nationale en internationale wedstrijden. John Beck studied percussion at the Eastman faculty in Rochester where he later on became Professor and Professor Emeritus of percussion. He teaches and performs as percussionist, timpanist and marimba soloist all over the world and conducts several percussion ensembles. Ludo Claesen* Hasselt – België Ludo Claesen studeerde percussie, muziekschriftuur, compositie en koor- en orkestdirectie aan het Lemmensinstituut van Leuven en het Vlaams Muziekconservatorium van Antwerpen. Hij doceert polyfonie, orkestspel en harmonie aan de School of Arts Leuven en koordirectie- en zang aan het Conservatorium van Maastricht (NL). Hij is componist, dirigent, docent en jurylid in binnen- en buitenland. Ludo Claesen studied percussion, harmony, counterpoint and fugue, composition and choirand orchestra conducting at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven and the Royal Flemish Music Conservatory in Antwerp. He teaches polyphonics, orchestration and harmony at the School of Arts, Leuven and choir conducting and –singing at the Conservatory Maastricht (NL). Alain Craens* De Klinge - België Alain Craens studeerde compositie, notenleer, harmonie, contrapunt, fuga, hobo, Engelse hoorn en kamermuziek aan het Conservatorium van Antwerpen. Hij was leraar hobo, kamermuziek en harmonie aan het Conservatorium van Leuven en de Rijks- en Stedelijke muziekacademie van Antwerpen. Hij doceert muziekschriftuur en compositie aan het Conservatorium van Antwerpen waar hij ook artistiek directeur is. Hij blijft eveneens actief als muzikant en componist. Alain Craens studied composition, music theory, harmony, counterpoint, fugue, oboe, English horn and chamber music at the Conservatory of Antwerp. He taught oboe, chamber music and harmony at the Conservatory of Leuven and the Antwerp Public and Urban Music Academy. He teaches notation and composition at the Conservatory of Antwerp where he is artistic manager. He also remains active as a musician and composer. www.alaincraens.com

JURYLEDEN JURY MEMBERS Andrew Cruickshank Glasgow – Verenigd Koninkrijk Andrew Cruickshank uit Glasgow studeerde aan de aan de Londense Koninklijke Muziekacademie en de Guildhall school voor muziek en drama. Hij was contrabas-speler in het VK, Europa en in de Schotse Opera. Hij won meerdere prijzen als componist en schreef meerdere stukken voor kunsten op het podium en het scherm. Hij componeerde verschillende werken voor jongeren en is een veelgevraagd docent en onderwijsspecialist. Hij was voor een eerste keer EMJ-jurylid in 2013. Andrew Cruickshank is from Glasgow and studied at the Royal Academy of Music and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. He has performed on double bass across the UK, Europe and with the Scottish Opera. He is an award-winning composer and has written several works for stage & screen. Andrew has composed numerous works for young people and is constantly in demand as a teacher and education specialist. He was for the first time EMJ jury member in 2013. www.andrewcruickshank.com

John Damsma* Groningen - Nedeland John Damsma studeerde cello, schoolmuziek en orkestdirectie aan het Conservatorium van Groningen. Hij is internationaal actief als arrangeur en dirigent en heeft zich toegelegd op lichte muziek en het opleiden van koordirigenten. Hij is medeauteur over de ontwikkeling van het muziekonderwijs, gastdocent en jurylid tijdens binnen- en buitenlandse festivals en wedstrijden. John Damsma studied the cello, school music and orchestra conducting at the Conservatory of Groningen. He is internationally active as arranger and conductor and concentrates on light music and educating choir conductors. He is a co-author for school music, a guest lecturer and a jury member at festivals and competitions in the Netherlands and abroad. www.johndamsma.nl

Raf De Keninck Veldhoven – Nederland Als dirigent werkte hij in heel Europa en nam cd’s op voor de labels Phaedra en Vanderkrieken Classics. Als klarinettist en op basklarinet creëerde hij tientallen werken die te beluisteren zijn via radio-opnames en cd-producties. Sinds 2013 is hij artistiek directeur van het Vlaams Sinfonietta. Daarnaast is hij momenteel directeur Muziek aan de Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten te Tilburg. Raf startte in 2015 een doctoraatsstudie in de Kunsten aan de Vrije Universiteit te Brussel ism het Koninklijk Conservatorium te Brussel. As a conductor he worked throughout Europe and recorded CDs for the labels Phaedra and Vanderkrieken Classics. Playing clarinet and bass clarinet, he created dozens of works that can be heard on radio recordings and CD productions. Since 2013 he is artistic manager of the Flemish Sinfonietta. Furthermore he acts as Music Manager at the Fontys Highschool of the Arts in Tilburg. In 2015 Raf started a PhD in Arts at the Free University of Brussels in collaboration with the Royal Conservatory in Brussels. www.rafdekeninck.be

JURYLEDEN JURY MEMBERS Jan de Laat Uden – Nederland Jan de Laat studeerde schoolmuziek, orgel en hafa-directie. Hij was werkzaam als orgeladviseur, school- en hafa-musicus, examinator voor muziekexamens en jurylid van menig hafa-wedstrijd. Hij verleende als docent zijn medewerking aan hafa-dirigentencursusen. Hij is als organist verbonden aan de St.-Petrus kerk in Uden, is staflid van het gregoriaans koor “Les Chanteurs Grégoriens” en is adviseur van het museum voor Religieuze Kunst in Uden. Jan de Laat studied school music, organ and hafa (wind bands) management. He worked as organ consultant, school hafa-musician, music examiner and juror of many wind band contests. As a teacher he offered his co-operation in wind band conductor courses. He is organist at St. Peters’ Church in Uden, staff member of the Gregorian choir “Les Chanteurs Grégoriens“ and is advisor to the Museum of Religious Art in Uden.

Stefaan Desmet* Bonheiden - België Stefaan Desmet studeerde piano aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel en aan de École Normale Alfred Cortot in Parijs. Hij is een veelgevraagd kamermuzikant in alle mogelijke bezettingen en is als liedbegeleider gespecialiseerd in het Franse en Duitse lied. Hij is als docent verbonden aan de muziekacademie van Bornem. Stefaan Desmet studied piano at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels and at the École Normale Alfred Cortot in Paris. He is a frequently asked chamber musician in all possible casts, and as a song attendant specialized in the French and German song. He teaches at the Music Academy in Bornem.

Pavel Eliashevich St.-Petersburg – Rusland Pavel Eliashevich studeerde piano en kamerensemble aan het Conservatorium van St. Petersburg. Hij won prijzen in verschillende internationale wedstrijden, is concertpianist en artistiek directeur van het kamermuziekensemble “Musica Da Camera” van de “St. Petersburg Philharmonic Society”. Hij doceert piano en kamermuziek aan de Herzen muziekuniversiteit in St. Petersburg en geeft meesterklassen over de hele wereld. Hij is tevens jurylid in verschillende nationale en internationale wedstrijden. Pavel Eliashevich studied piano and chamber ensemble at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. He is a prize-winner of various international competitions, concert pianist and artistic director of “Musica Da Camera” Chamber Ensemble of “St. Petersburg Philharmonic Society”. He is professor of piano and chair of chamber ensemble at the Herzen University Institute of Music in St. Petersburg and gives master classes all over the world. He is a jury member of several international competitions.

JURYLEDEN JURY MEMBERS Willy Fransen* Zolder - België Willy Fransen studeerde trompet en piano aan het Stedelijk Muziekconservatorium van Hasselt en het Koninklijk Muziekconservatorium van Antwerpen. Hij vervolmaakte zich in hafabra-directie en was actief als docent, componist, arrangeur en dirigent bij verschillende harmonieorkesten in België en Nederland. Met zijn eerste harmonieorkest promoveerde hij van de allerlaagste afdeling tot de concertafdeling op het WMC te Kerkrade, wat hem een ereburgerschap opleverde. Willy Fransen studied trumpet and piano at the municipal Music Conservatory of Hasselt and the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. He perfected himself in wind band conducting and was active as a teacher, composer, orchestrator and conductor at various harmonies in Belgium and the Netherlands. With his first wind orchestra he promoted from the lowest level to the concert department of the WMC in Kerkrade, which earned him an honorary citizenship. www.willy-fransen.be

Luc Goos Meerhout – België Luc Goos studeerde percussie, kamermuziek, harmonie, contrapunt en fuga aan het Conservatorium van Antwerpen. Hij doceert diverse percussievakken aan het Conservatorium van Hasselt en aan de Muziekacademie van Geel. Muzikaal is hij daarnaast actief als uitvoerder en componist bij 4Pk, een kersvers dynamisch slagwerkkwartet. Luc Goos studied percussion, chamber music, harmony, counterpoint and fugue at the Conservatory of Antwerp. He teaches various percussion courses at the Conservatory of Hasselt and at the Music Academy of Geel. Furthermore he is musically active as performer and composer in a brand new dynamic percussion quartet, 4Pk.

Ben Haemhouts Berchem – België Na een carrière als trombonist legde hij zich toe op het dirigeren en studeerde hij orkestdirectie bij de Russische dirigent Alexander Polyanichko, bij wie hij ook assistent was. Zijn samenwerking met menig wereldberoemd dirigent oefende een blijvende invloed op hem uit en inspireerde hem in zijn opdracht van gastdirigent van binnen- en buitenlandse orkesten. Hij is creatief directeur van “The Chamber Orchestra of Belgium” waarmee hij vaak hedendaags werk combineert met composities uit de barokke en klassieke periode. After a career as a trombonist, he focused on conducting. He studied conducting with the Russian conductor Alexander Polyanichko, with whom he also worked as an assistant. His cooperation with many a world famous conductor exerted a lasting influence and inspired him in his mission of guest conductor of national and international orchestras. He is creative manager of “The Chamber Orchestra of Belgium” with which he often combines contemporary music with compositions from the Baroque and Classical period. www.haemhouts.be

JURYLEDEN JURY MEMBERS Xenophon Kelsey Ripon – Verenigd Koninkrijk Xenophon Kelsey studeerde hoorn, contrabas, piano en directie in Manchester, Wenen, Salzburg en Montreux. Hij is oprichter, dirigent en muzikant en gespecialiseerd in het werken met jonge muzikanten. Hij stichtte het studentenensemble “Vacation Chamber Orchestras” en dirigeerde hen tijdens verschillende tournees in Europa en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Hij is een ervaren jurylid en kreeg in 2009 een MBE voor zijn diensten aan muziek en de muziekopleiding. Xenophon Kelsey studied horn, double bass, piano and conducting in Manchester, Vienna, Salzburg and Montreux. He is founder, conductor and player and specialized in working with young musicians. He formed the student ensemble Vacation Chamber Orchestras and has conducted them on many tours throughout Europe and the UK. He is also an experienced adjudicator and, in 2009, he was awarded an MBE for his services to music and music education. www.xenmus.net

Eleftheria Kotzia London – Verenigd Koninkrijk Eleftheria Kotzia studeerde gitaar aan de Conservatoria van Athene, Parijs en Londen. Ze trad op als soliste en orkestlid in meerdere festivals en op diverse nationale en internationale podia. Ze doceert aan het “Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama” en geeft masterclasses en cursussen over de hele wereld. Ze werkt regelmatig als jurylid tijdens internationale wedstrijden en festivals. Eleftheria Kotzia studied guitar at the Conservatories of Athens, Paris and London. She performed both as soloist and with orchestras at many festivals and on many national and international stages. She teaches at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and gives master-classes and training courses around the world. She often cooperates as juror at international competitions and festivals. www.eleftheria.info

Karin Laenen Parijs - Frankrijk Karin Laenen studeerde aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen (Master in Muziek optie compositie – pedagogisch diploma). Na een aantal jaren muziektheorie en – geschiedenis in het deeltijds kunstonderwijs in Vlaanderen te hebben gedoceerd, was ze werkzaam als projectverantwoordelijke muziek bij de Provincie Limburg en artistiek directeur van het C-Mine Jazz festival in Genk. In 2000 verhuisde ze naar Parijs waar ze sindsdien actief is als boekingsagente van Zwitsers pianist Nik Bärtsch en directrice van “littlesounds” (muzikale activiteiten voor de allerkleinsten). Karin Laenen studied at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (Masters in Music, option composition - pedagogical degree). After several years of teaching music theory and music history in part-time education in Flanders, she worked as music project manager at the Province of Limburg and as artistic manager of the C-Mine Jazz Festival in Genk. In 2000 she moved to Paris since, she is active as booking agent for the Swiss pianist Nik Bärtsch and as director of “little sounds” (musical activities for toddlers). www.burolano.com www.littlesounds.fr 9

JURYLEDEN JURY MEMBERS Wouter Lenaerts* Brussel - België Wouter Lenaerts studeerde muziekschriftuur, harmonieleer, contrapunt en fuga, piano, hafabradirectie, compositie en symfonische directie aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel. Hij is er nu docent muziekschriftuur en analyse voor dirigenten en is als componist internationaal bekend. Hij is artistiek leider van het orkest “symphoniaASSAI” en regelmatig gastdirigent en jurylid in binnen- en buitenland. Wouter Lenaerts studied composition, harmony, counterpoint and fugue, piano, wind band conducting, composition and symphonic conducting at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. He there now teaches music composition and analysis for conductors and is internationally renowned as a composer. He is artistic director of the orchestra “symphoniaASSAI” and regularly acts as guest conductor and juror at home as well as abroad. www.wouterlenaerts.com

Jane Lomax Ripon – Verenigd Koninkrijk Jane Lomax studeerde fagot, zang en piano aan de Trinity Muziekschool van Londen en vervolgde deze opleidingen aan de Winchester College en de Yehudi Menyhin School. Ze specialiseerde zich in kamermuziek en werd een free lance fagotspeelster gedurende meerdere jaren. Ze is docent, leidt verschillende orkesten en concertreeksen en is co-organisator van het “Vacation Chamber Orchestras” dat 3 keer per jaar aan jonge muzikanten een intensieve muziekopleiding geeft. Jane Lomax studied bassoon, singing and piano at the Trinity College of Music London, following studies at Winchester College and The Yehudi Menuhin School. She specialized in Chamber Music as well as freelancing as a bassoonist for many years. She also teaches, manages several orchestras and concert series and is co-organizer of the Vacation Chamber Orchestras - which gives musical training to young musicians through intensive chamber orchestra & music courses 3 times a year. Stefan Meylaers Hasselt – België Stefan Meylaers studeerde piano en kamermuziek aan het Lemmensinstituut van Leuven en is actief als concertpianist, begeleider, componist en pedagoog. Hij is als docent en pedagogisch coördinator verbonden aan het Stedelijk Muziekconservatorium van Hasselt en Musart. Hij concerteerde in belangrijke concertzalen in binnen- en buitenland. Als filmcomponist ontving hij verschillende nominaties waaronder de Hollywood Music In Media Award. Stefan Meylaers studied piano and chamber music at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven and is active as concert pianist, supervisor, composer and pedagogue. He is a teacher and pedagogic coordinator at the municipal Music Conservatory of Hasselt and Musart. He performed in major concert halls at home as well as abroad. JURYLEDEN JURY MEMBERS Nico Neyens* Neerpelt - België Nico Neyens studeerde klarinet, muziektheorie en kamermuziek aan het Conservatorium van Antwerpen. Hij is gewezen leraar klarinet, kamermuziek en coördinator aan het NIKO en oprichter van het gelijknamig orkest. Hij fungeert als gastdirigent en jurylid in bijna gans Europa, China en Zuid-Afrika. Nico Neyens studied clarinet, music theory and chamber music at the Antwerp Conservatory. He is a former teacher clarinet, chamber music and coordinator of the NIKO as well as founder of the eponymous orchestra. He acts as a guest conductor and member of jury in Europe, China and South Africa.

Pierangelo Pelucchi Bergamo – Italië Pierangelo Pelucchi studeerde piano, compositie, directie, koormuziek en koordirectie, zang en klavecimbel aan de Conservatoria van Verona, Bologna, Bari, Salzburg en Wenen. Hij is dirigent van Italiaanse opera en symfonische repertoires, professor aan de Conservatoria van Udine en Bergamo en gastprofessor in diverse Conservatoria in Europa. Hij is jurylid in binnen- en buitenlandse wedstrijden en festivals. Pierangelo Pelucchi graduated in piano, composition, conducting, choral music and choral conducting, singing and harpsichord at the Conservatories of Verona, Bologna, Bari, Salzburg and Vienna. He is a conductor of Italian opera and symphonic reptertoires, professor at the Conservatories of Udine and Bergamo and visiting professor at various music universities in Europe. Luc Ponet Tongeren – België Organist en dirigent Luc Ponet volgde een brede artistieke opleiding aan het Lemmensinstituut in Leuven en aan de “Hochschule für Musik” in Wenen. Hij is inspecteur voor het Kunstonderwijs van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap en geeft wereldwijd concerten, lezingen en masterclasses. Daarnaast is hij organist-titularis van de basiliek in Tongeren, stadsorganist en curator van het Festival Leuven Orgelstad en muziekdirecteur van de Bach Academie Alden Biesen. Organist and conductor Luc Ponet attended a wide artistic training at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven and at the “Hochschule für Musik” in Vienna. He is art school inspector of the Flemish Community and performs in concerts, gives lectures and master classes worldwide. Furthermore he is titular organist of the Basilica in Tongeren, city organist and curator of the “Festival Leuven Orgelstad” and music director of the “Bach Academy Alden Biesen”.

JURYLEDEN JURY MEMBERS Janis Purins Riga - Letland Janis Purins studeerde trompet en orkestdirectie aan de Letse Jazeps Vitols muziekacademie waar hij nu assistent-professor is en leider van de directieklas voor blaasmuziek. Hij is dirigent van de “Cesis Symphonic Band” en het blaasensemble van de Letse universiteit. Hij is gastdirigent van verschillende internationale ensembles. Janis Purins studied trumpet and orchestra conducting at the Jazeps Vitols Latvian academy of Music where he now is assistant professor and leader of the wind orchestra conducting class. He is conductor of the Cesis Symphonic Band and the wind band at the Latvian University. He is a guest conductor of several international bands.

Reinhold Rogg Bahlingen - Duitsland Reinhold Rogg studeerde orgel aan de muziekacademie van Karlsruhe en muziekopleiding in Stuttgart-Trossingen. Hij was directeur van de muziekscholen in Geldern-Niederreihn en Krefeld en professor aan de universiteit van Duisburg. Hij was oprichter van de eerste Duitse brass band en het jeugdblaasorkest van Nordrhein Westfalen waarmee hij aan verschillende nationale en internationale wedstrijden deelnam. Hij is jurylid in menig Europees festival en wedstrijd. Reinhold Rogg studied organ at the music academy of Karlsruhe and music professor in StuttgartTrossingen. He was director of the music schools in Geldern-Niederreihn and Krefeld and professor at the Duisburg university. He founded the first German brass band and the youth wind orchestra of Nordrhein Westfalen with whom he participated at various national and international competitions. He is jury member of many European festivals and competitions.

Johan Rycken Mol – België Johan Rycken is leraar fluit aan het Conservatorium van Antwerpen en de Kunsthumaniora’s van Brussel en Gent. Hij is intendant van het kamerorkest voor Vlaanderen en het Philharmonic orchestra Flanders. Johan Rycken teaches flute at the Conservatory of Antwerp and the art schools of Brussels and Ghent. He is superintendant of the Chamber Orchestra for Flanders and the Philharmonic orchestra Flanders.

JURYLEDEN JURY MEMBERS Edmond Saveniers Wijnegem – België Edmond Saveniers studeerde orgel, muziekopvoeding en orkestdirectie aan het Lemmensinstituut van Leuven en het Conservatorium van Antwerpen. Hij dirigeerde de Vlaamse Opera en concerten en opnames in binnen- en buitenland. Hij doceerde orkestsamenspel en orkestdirectie aan het Lemmensinstituut en het Conservatorium van Maastricht. Hij dirigeert het Universitair Symfonisch Orkest van de KU Leuven en het Marsyas Chamber Orchestra. Hij is Life-time member van het “College Orchestra Directors Association” in de VS. Beat Simeon Zürich – Zwitserland Beat Simeon studeerde trompet aan het Conservatorium van Zurich en directie aan de muziekacademie van Zurich. Hij is trompetleraar, dirigent en oprichter van het schoolblaasorkest “Allegra”. Hij is commissielid van de muziekschool in Zurich en jurylid in menig nationale en internationale wedstrijd. Beat Simeon studied trumpet at the Conservatory of Zürich and conducting at the Music Academy of Zürich. He is active as trumpet teacher and conductor and founded the School Wind Orchestra “Allegra”. He is a commission member of the Music School in Zürich and juror in various national and international competitions.

Allan Skrobe Malmö – Zweden Allan Skrobe studeerde aan de muziekacademie van Malmö waarna hij wereldwijd als producer, arrangeur en muzikant werkte met als specialisatie volksmuziek. Hij werkt met het wereldwijde netwerk Ethno dat instaat voor de organisatie van wereldmuziekkampen voor jonge muzikanten. Als gitarist, mandola- en mandolinespeler, pianist en contrabassist leidt hij eveneens meerdere muziekprojecten. Allan Skrobe studied at the Malmö Academy of Music in Sweden. After the studies he worked around the world as a producer, arranger, musician, specialized in folk music. He also works with the worldwide network Ethno organising world music camps for young musicians. JURYLEDEN JURY MEMBERS Filip Verneert* Merelbeke - België Filip Verneert studeerde gitaar, tenorbanjo en luit aan de Universiteiten van Leuven en Leiden en aan de Conservatoria van Gent en Brussel. Hij is als gitarist betrokken bij meerdere ensembles en schreef en speelde in verschillende muziektheatervoorstellingen. Hij is directeur van Muziekmozaïek Folk & Jazz waar hij de coördinatie van verschillende jazz- en folkprojecten voor zijn rekening neemt. Filip Verneert studied guitar, tenor banjo and lute at the Universities of Leuven and Leiden and at the Conservatories of Ghent and Brussels. As a guitarist he is involved in several ensembles and wrote and performed in various musical theaters. Maarten Weyler Sint-Amandsberg – België Maarten Weyler studeerde musicologie en archeologie aan de Universiteit Gent en bas aan het Berklee College of Music. Hij is opleidingsvoorzitter muziek van het Conservatorium van Gent, coördinator van de jazz/pop afdeling waar hij ook actief is als lesgever van verscheidene theorie- en praktijkvakken. Verder is hij cultuureducator bij de vormingsinstelling Halewynstichting vzw en docent aan het Staatsconservatorium te Istanbul. Maarten Weyler studied musicology and archeology at the University of Ghent and bass at the Berklee College of Music. He is chairman of music education at the Ghent Conservatory, coordinator of the department of jazz/pop where he also acts as teacher of several theoretical and practical subjects. He is cultural instructor at the training institution “Halewynstichting” and professor at the State Conservatory in Istanbul.

André Willems Neerpelt - België André Willems studeerde slagwerk en piano aan het Conservatorium van Antwerpen en was muzikant in meerdere orkesten en big bands. Daarnaast was hij docent muziekvakken en esthetica en als dirigent succesvol betrokken bij diverse orkesten. Hij is een veelgevraagd jurylid voor marsen podiumconcerten, muziekanalyses en solistenoptredens in zowel binnen- als buitenland. André Willems studied percussion and piano at the Antwerp Conservatory and was a musician in several orchestras and big bands. He taught music and aesthetics and was successful as conductor in various orchestras. He is a wanted juror for march and stage concerts, music analysis and solo performances at home as well as abroad.

JURYLEDEN JURY MEMBERS Wolfgang Ziegler Bad Vöslau – Oostenrijk Wolfgang Ziegler werkte, na het beëindigen van zijn pedagogische studies, als assistent in muziekeducatie, violist en componist van elektronische muziek in de VS. Als violist werkte hij samen met het Weense “Johann Strauss” orkest. Terug in Oostenrijk werd hij koordirigent en koorcomponist van werken die door meerdere internationale koren en festivals werden opgevoerd. Hij is voorzitter van de Oostenrijkse Koorfederatie. Wolfgang Ziegler worked, after finishing pedagogical studies, as an assistant in music education, violist and electronic music composer in the USA. As violin player he performed with the Wiener “Johann Strauss” Orchestra. Back in Austria he became choral director and composer of pieces commissioned by international choirs and festivals. De maximum leeftijd van de deelnemers bedraagt 25 jaar. The maximum age of the participants is fixed on 25 years.
