DUTIES: Under the direct supervision of the Cape Town Component Director, the incumbent will initiate and develop activities of a Biopesticide Research Group. The Group Leader will develop a research strategy for the Group, and will be responsible for: -
Directing the activities of the Biopesticide Group with particular reference to dissemination of scientific information on technical and other relevant aspects of biopesticides; Develop predictive and efficient regulatory processes for Biopesticides with particular reference to Track Invasive Alien Species (IAS) and proposing appropriate interventions; Develop more effective biopesticide formulations for the benefit of ICGEB Member States Developing an effective fundraising strategy to support and sustain the Group’s activities. Supervising MSc and PhD students and Post-doctoral Fellows
It is expected that the incumbent will complement existing ICGEB activities in related fields by collaborating closely with: - ICGEB Biosafety Group in Trieste – which has extensive experience in risk assessment of GMOs, and a wide network particularly in Africa: - ICGEB Bacteriology Group in Trieste – An understanding of microbial interactions involving potential microbial biocontrol agents may be useful and hence collaboration with the Bacteriology Group is critical; - ICGEB Plant Insect Interaction and Plant RNAi Biology Groups in New Delhi – exploiting knowledge of the genomes of pests and their natural enemies may result in various significant advances in biopesticide development.
