2. ABOUT NIPERs The Government of India through an Act of Parliament (as per notification dated 26th June, 1998) established the first National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in the country at S.A.S Nagar (Mohali) as a Centre of Excellence for imparting higher education, research, and development in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Management. During the years 2007 and 2008, the Government of India established six more NIPERs. Presently the following NIPERs are functioning in different parts of the country (in alphabetic order): NIPER-Ahmedabad NIPER-Guwahati NIPER-Hajipur NIPER-Hyderabad NIPER-Kolkata NIPER-Raebareli NIPER-S.A.S Nagar NIPER Act empowers the Institute vide following Sections: Section 7(ii): " to concentrate on courses leading to master's degree, doctoral and postdoctoral courses and research in pharmaceutical education". Section 7 (iii): "to hold examinations and grant degrees". Section 32: "Notwithstanding anything contained in the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or in any other Law for the time being in force, the Institute shall have power to grant degrees and other academic distinctions and titles under this Act". NIPERs are awarding Ph.D., M.Pharm., M.Tech. (Pharm.), M.Tech., MS (Pharm.) and MBA (Pharm.) as mandated to it by Section 7 (ii), (iii) and Section 32 of the NIPER Act 1998.
2.1. NIPER-Ahmedabad National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) by MHRD 2020 has ranked NIPERAhmedabad at 8th position amongst the Pharma Institutes in India. The institute has also been placed in Band A category in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA). Achievements (ARIIA). NIPER‐Ahmedabad at Gandhinagar has a lush green campus with a state-of-the-art research facility, including an animal house and a canteen.
