It gives me a sense of helping people. I enjoy working for WWGMC because of the people. The “Best in the Business” have worked, and continue to work for this great company. The people are what makes this a great place to work. The community still has the highest respect for all of the people here, and what they truly provide to the community! The people. We have some of the best people in the industry. This goes way beyond the saying that our employees are the best in the business. We have some really great people that at a moments notice will drop what they are doing to be there for each other. I think most people would consider the people that they work with at this company their friends as apposed to being their co workers. W W Gay is a great company to work for because everyone is part of the team, from the top down everyone is willing to help, and will do whatever it take to get the job done. W W Gay as a company has done for countless thing to help employees, customer, and community’s. It is a privilege to work for such a great company. We get a great deal of support. Opportunities to learn and grow in my profession and turn out a better product. If you want to be the best, you have to work with the best. The industrial department and the people in that department who make it a loving family environment daily. What I enjoy most about this company is that I’m made to feel as a cog in the gears of our Team’s clockwork. You come here everyday, taking time away from your family and home. You work hard to keep things moving along and you care about your work ethics and production level. But then when something happens with your children, family or home and the people you’re with all the time, your coworkers, are just as connected as you are with those details, those emotions and feelings....you can’t just call that a “job”, you can’t just call them “coworkers”. They’re family. It’s home. You take care of your family. You’re proud to keep your home going strong by doing the best job you can. Just love what I do and the opportunity to work with some of the best in the business! The people. Very Family Orientated. The people. Also, the ability here to work on diverse, interesting and important projects. It’s never a dull moment!! You always and I do say always learning something new. Helping people get the right material, And the customer see how fast we can make things happen that brings great Joy!!!! Feels like Family here. I really enjoy working here because I feel like this a part of “My” business and that I’m not just a plug in person. We have A LOT of laughs amongst ourselves that make it fun to be here and get things done. W.W. Gay has always been this way since I’ve been here and it really makes me enjoy being a part of this family. It’s family oriented and there’s always room to learn more about the company and how it operates. I truly enjoy working with other employees and the unity it brings. It’s all I know, and we are family on the industrial side. We are family and the respect among employees is second to none. I met my wife Sherrie here so we really are family! Good people to work with and good company.

A Message From Our CEO

When you drive through any city where an office of ours is located, what goes through your mind? Are you looking for the W. W. Gay truck or do you immediately notice the new construction and wonder if we’re on that job? For me, when I pass the Jacksonville city skyline, I’m instantly reminded that so many of those buildings were built by the hands of our people. What an amazing privilege that is. Even more incredible, though, is realizing that our signature runs deep across our cities.

Since officially celebrating our 60th anniversary earlier this month, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on many things, but mostly on how we got to where we are, and what we can do to take us to that next level. We’ve been blessed as a company to have known many legends before us who built the foundation and helped us accomplish so much in just 60 years. Throughout those six decades, services and operations have certainly expanded, and we’ve seen many changes, but one thing has remained constant: our underlying principles. We were built on the idea that our business would be successful because of our people.

The Pipeline 6

Our success was never about what one person did. It has been, and always will be, about what we accomplish as a team. Henry Ford said this: “If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself”. Together, we built so much. Together, decades later, we have the wonderful opportunity to build upon that and forge ahead to the next 60 years.

“If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself ”.
- Henry Ford

How do we keep building and continue to pursue excellence though? At some point over the last few years, you may have heard me speak about my vision and what that “pursuit of excellence” looks like for us. While part of that requires us to look in the rearview mirror at our past success, we should never spend too much time there. That should only be used as a guide and help us realize where adjustments are needed.

We’ve made great strides towards our goal, but it wasn’t until the Groundbreaking Ceremony that I realized how much of that vision is coming to fruition. Now that the building construction has begun, our new chapter is well underway. Much progress will be made over the next month, bringing us one step closer to our immediate goals. Now, more than ever, is the time to time to stick together and push our vision forward. “The vision of W. W. Gay is to be a leader in our industry and our community through an unrivaled commitment to our craft and our people”.

Let’s keep this top of mind so we continue on the path to a bright future.

Thank you for always being the best in the business!

Marketing Update

Between all the exciting festivities with our 60th anniversary and the new HQ building groundbreaking, September has been a busy month! With such a huge history, Peyton and I wanted to put together a special 60th anniversary of The Pipeline to not only showcase what’s been happening this year, but also look back at our roots. Flip through the pages to find photos of the September events and special “throw backs” from the last six decades.

Now that construction on the new building has officially begun, I’m looking forward to bringing everyone updates by way of photos and videos. Once construction ramps up, look for the special “Flyover Friday” segments to return with drone footage capturing progress being made on a weekly basis I’m excited to share that a time-lapse camera has been installed which will also provide great footage of the entire process.

I also wanted to provide an update on our company store, as I know many of you have been asking. I have appreciated everyone’s patience as we navigated through long delays and product shortages this year. With all the struggles we experienced, it was important to me that our employees received the best quality and services. For the last few months, I have done just that and vetted many companies to ensure we were with the right fit that better suited our needs. I’m happy to announce that I am moving forward with a smaller, family and women-owned company that is local to Jacksonville. The Morgan Company has been in business for nearly two decades and has already been wonderful to work with. What I’m most thrilled about is that not only will our new company store be open 24/7, but we’ll also be purchasing our stock in advance. This means that everything will be kept in their storage and be ready to ship directly to your home (or an address you choose) soon after orders are placed. I will be communicating more information as soon as the employee store is ready for launch, which I expect will be at the end of October. As always, if there are items you are looking for, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or Peyton and we will do our best to make it happen.

With that being said, if there are specific items you are interested in distributing to your department (apparel, hats, swag items), please know Peyton and I are here to help! We can work together to order exactly what you are thinking of and get your employees squared away.

Forging ahead,

New Building Update

Not long after the groundbreaking ceremony, work officially began on the new HQ building site! Auld & White now has their job trailer on site and site prep is in progress. Much progress will continue to be made in the coming weeks, so stay tuned to this spot and social media for more updates.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

August 31, 2022 was certainly a special day in our company’s history! We officially broke ground on our new HQ building Jacksonville. The ceremony fell on the 2nd anniversary of the fire that destroyed our old main building and just one day before we celebrated our 60th anniversary. What was such a horrible and tragic day in 2020, it was monumental to celebrate new beginnings on that day exactly two years later. What a long way we have come!

We’re so thankful to everyone that attended both in person and via livestream. This includes our customers, vendors and community partners who have all shown their continuous support through the years. We’re so excited for the future and this next chapter for our company!

W hat is your favorite W. W.

It’s great when you have a hard time picking one favorite thing. I would have to say that Christmas parties are special because you get to see everyone together sharing stories and laughs which really shows the bond this company has established. It reflects the camaraderie that makes me feel like this is where I need to be.

Being asked by Bobbi Thompson to have Mr. Gay’s Davy Crockett Blueprint re-created and being thanked by him personally after it was complete.

- TROY PAGNOTTO

Working closely with Mr. Gay to win jobs and never being sorry about the ones that we didn’t get. Winning is everything we had to get work to feed our WW Gay family. Mr. Gay was a winner!!

My favorite memory is the first time I had to go to Mr. Gay’s office, I was relatively new and very nervous. When I walked in the first thing Mr. Gay asked me was if I had any tattoos, which totally caught me off guard, I told him no, and he advised me that the guy who used to run the sign shop was covered in tattoos, so he was just wondering if I had any. Mr. Gay had a way of making people feel comfortable and important.

- CRYSTAL GASKINS

The Christmas parties and picnics we used to have when Mr. Gay involved everyone from every office as a family.

- HOLLY CREWS

Meeting Artis Gilmore at the Christmas Party.

Working

During the hard times around 2008, getting to see how much Mr. Gay cared about us. He was willing to put profits aside to make sure his people stayed working and made enough hours to keep our benefits going. I feel like this really gave people a sense of pride in this company and the boss.

W. Gay memory?

Being able to be apart of the legacy of W W Gay. My great team and I in Tallahassee have grown this office from 3 people to 8 people in 8 years and we are still growing. It has been a struggle to breakdown the barriers of being a new company in Tallahassee, but with a great team we have been successful.

- BRYAN STRICKLAND

Taking our children to the Company Picnic where it felt more like an annual family reunion. Everyone’s children playing together enjoying all the festivities and putting faces to names you speak to all the time.

Working closely with Mr. Gay to win jobs and never being sorry about the ones that we didn’t get. Winning is everything we had to get work to feed our WW Gay family. Mr. Gay was a winner!!

My favorite memory of WWGMC was how Mr. Gay would drive his Lincoln Town Car through the campus and stop to talk with everyone. No matter what your position with the company was, he valued each and every one as family and really wanted to hear from each one. When I say drove through the campus, he literally drove down the middle of the piping fabrication shop in his vehicle. When he stopped, you felt like the President of the U.S. just took the time to thank you for what you do.

- JOHN RUSSELL

Decorating the office for Mr. Gay at Christmas. He loved Christmas!

- PEGGY J GRIFFIN

Working with a great leader and person - Mr. Gay!

- KEITH GRIFFIN

So many favorites, we always go above and beyond. When Alachua County school board made their decision known that their preference for controls is Honeywell and knowing its our efforts that made that happen would be my current.

- KEN HOVEY

Being involved with the construction, at the time, of only the second Proton Beam Therapy facility in the United States and one of only a few in the world; and working through the project specific challenges with the construction and design team for a successful project.

In Their Own Words

As a way to celebrate our 60th anniversary, we sat down with some of our longesttenured employees to learn more about the time they’ve spent at W. W. Gay. Pictured below from the Jacksonville office, we spoke with Jody Crews (44 years), Wayne Durban (46 years), Michael Scribbins (41 years) and Brent Schultz (46 years), who all had so many wonderful memories from through the years.

Tell us a favorite memory you have from your time at W. W. Gay

Michael Scribbins: Every month we would have one celebration for all the birthdays that occurred during that specific month. These were always held in the kitchen and everyone came together to sing “Happy Birthday” and enjoy carrot cake.

Brent Shultz: I remember being a teenager and was asked to take Mr. Gay’s Lincoln car to get maintenance done on it down at the old “Stockton Car Wash”. I was so incredibly nervous to drive his car, because it was Mr. Gay’s car, but also because the hood was so huge. I also remember driving Mr. Gay to the airport as a teenager, too. At the time, the speed limit was only 55 mph and I made sure to obey that law. Maybe 5 minutes up the road, Mr. Gay speaks up to say, “Boy, I need to get to that airplane! You need to go faster!” I laughed so hard and sped up to 60 mph the rest of the way. Mr. Gay loved to drive fast.

Wayne Durban: The company picnics were my favorite. Mr. Gay started those in the 60’s and it grew from something so small to huge crowds. They were always family oriented and a great opportunity to bring your kids with all the fun activities. They had pony rides, slides, rock climbing and even a pool. It was a great time for everyone.

The Pipeline 22

How have you seen the company grow through the years?

Jody Crews: I remember there being just three offices on Edison originally. Now you look at our property and it’s just grown to blocks and blocks of our blue buildings. When we started, we weren’t even equipped to do HVAC or Plumbing yet. Mr. Gay always spoke in future terms and made sure to ask everyone, “What you got coming?” He was never satisfied but it was that drive to always be doing more that helped us grow so quickly.

Michael Scribbins: Mr. Gay and Carl Bowles were constantly innovating and finding new ways to expand the company. Jody’s right, we started out only doing pipe fitting and have grown into this massive company now. There’s not much we can’t do nowadays.

What was the beginning like?

Wayne Durban: There wasn’t a computer in sight! We had to use hydraulic calculations to find the correct plumbing numbers. There were no cell phones or fax machines, everything was just done by hand.

Jody Crews: I remember having a beeper back then! When Mr. Gay would beep you, you had to find the nearest pay phone and use a quarter just to call him. Back then, so many of us worked on Saturdays. The best part about that workday was that Mr. Gay would take everybody out lunch. It was always an honor to work on Saturdays because you had special time with him.

Talk about the legacy of W. W. Gay

All: It’s been a great ride!

Jody Crews: Very few companies have made it to their 60th anniversary, so it’s such an honor to have worked here basically my entire life. It’s all that I’ve ever known, especially since my dad worked here too, so it’s forever engrained in my family.

Wayne Durban: I’m so grateful to be part of this legacy. I started back in high school and worked hours that I wasn’t in class. I know what we produce is better than any of our competition and that makes me proud.

Thank you to Wayne, Jody, Brent and Michael for sharing their time and memories with us! You, along with all our other long-term employees, have helped pave the way for us. We’re grateful for all that you’ve done and continue to do for W. W. Gay!

60th Anniversary Celebrations

Our Jacksonville office has long been involved with a local nonprofit children’s ministry called Sidewalk Funday School. Kimberly Hansen, who oversees all construction for each Baptist Hospital location in Jacksonville, heads up the organization with her husband, Richard Hansen. The non-profit aims to reach and serve under-privileged children all over the city of Jacksonville. A handful of our employees volunteer with the organization on a weekly basis and enjoy their time getting to know the children while

In addition to their weekly teachings, Sidewalk Funday School has put together special “career nights” at several of their locations in an attempt to make the kids aware of job
