Dear W. W. Gay Family,
Just when I thought we couldn’t get any busier, the workload turns up a notch! With our teams averaging more than 50,000 hours a week, it’s clear that we are busier than we have ever been as a company. Even in the midst of this extremely hectic time, we are accomplishing so much along so many different avenues. I am always so proud to see the dedication each of you has for our company. Week in and week out, you continue to prove how passionate you are about our team and our mission. Now, more than ever, it’s important to remember that the work being done could not be possible if we all weren’t working as a team. The support you give to your teammates during these times is crucial and will help determine our success. I read this recently and it reminded me of how important that support really is: "Words are free and always available. They have the power to change your life. And every day, in every conversation, you have the power to speak life-changing words to those around you". Let’s carry those thoughts through each day, continue to motivate and encourage one another, and keep pushing forward. We are all in this together.
You’ve heard me repeatedly say this year that it’s exciting times at W. W. Gay and I couldn’t be more excited for what the end of August is bringing. As many of you know, a new logo has been in the works since October of last year and I’m so happy to finally release it companywide. While our current logo has been with us for nearly 60 years, I knew how important it would be to showcase our company’s staying power, especially after the passing of Mr. Gay and the other many changes we have faced over the last year. To help accomplish this, we partnered with Wingard, a Jacksonville marketing and advertising agency, who were beyond thrilled to be part of our story. Before the logo process even began, we spent many hours with their team discussing what we were hoping to accomplish with this redesign. It was always our goal to modernize the logo, not change it completely.
The new logo is many things for our company. It’s an opportunity to finally bring us all under one umbrella, as one solid family. It helps us improve upon the story that we all believe in. Most importantly, it pays homage to Mr. Gay and the legacy he left for us to continue. I can’t wait for each of you to see it and hope you are as excited as I am about this next chapter in our great company’s story.
Thank you for always being the best in the business!

This month’s Employee Spotlight, Joe Bennett, comes to us from our Gainesville office, where he’s known for his hard work and dedication to the company. Joe just recently turned out this past May, but his career with W. W. Gay began long before he started his apprenticeship. Looking for a summer job during his junior year in high school, Joe was introduced to the company by his good friend Blake Hendrix. Joe enjoyed the job so much that he spent two summers putting in hours, learning multiple aspects of the trade. After graduation, Joe called Blake in hopes of a full-time opportunity. Lucky for Joe, Blake was able to help secure him a spot with the Local 234 Union. Joe spent much of his 5-year apprenticeship working side-by-side with Foreman Tim Owens and learning on the job at North Florida Regional Medical Center. Finally turned out, Joe is now a Journeyman working on-site at Shands, a job that he is thoroughly enjoying.
Joe was born in Jacksonville and grew up there with his mom before moving to Callahan with his dad at age 10. He now lives in Starke with his fiancé Kaddi and their 2-year-old son Caiden. The couple, who have been together for nearly 5 years, enjoy spending quiet nights at home as a family. Joe appreciates the simple things in life and would choose time with his family over anything else. If you were to ask him, Joe would tell you that family and career are the most important things to him. At the end of the day, he works hard so his family is taken care of.
When it comes to his career, Joe loves seeing a project from start to finish, knowing the team accomplished something great. Over the years, he has been blessed with many mentors who helped him along the way. Joe had the opportunity to work closely with Bill Berky, who just recently retired, and soaked up his 45 years of plumbing knowledge. He claims that he would not be where he is today if it weren’t for Bill and his guidance. In addition to Bill, Joe worked side-by-side with Tim Owens for 3 years and Deon Olitsky for 2 years, two great teachers he feels fortunate to know.
Last movie you saw: "Jungle Cruise"
I'm happiest when... I'm at home with my family.
Like most at W. W. Gay, Joe enjoys his job because of the people he is surrounded by. “While the job can be demanding, it’s the people who make the difference,” says Joe. “The only way you make it through the tough days is by the great people around you. And there are so many here at W. W. Gay”.
Great job, Joe! Keep up the good work!
If you operate a company vehicle, please remember the importance of conducting a vehicle safety inspection. You are representing W. W. Gay, so it is vital you take extra precautions before driving. For many of you, your vehicle is your office, so loose objects should be secured at all times. These safety inspections are only helpful if you report defects or unsafe conditions right away, so please do not risk driving an unsafe vehicle.
Stay safe,
Steve Ray Director of SafetySafety Specialist Phillip Brundage works hard each day to improve safety for our entire Orlando area team. His 20-year career in the industry started long before he joined the W. W. Gay team nearly 2 years ago. Phillip began as a union contractor and through the years he has held positions ranging from Safety Specialist to Corporate Safety Director. Throughout his career, Phillip has had experience with everything from power plants to roads, bridges, nuclear and more. He even spent 6 years in Afghanistan working with a USA Engineering firm. Responsible for 29 job sites during his time in the Middle East, Phillip is most proud of his zero recordables and the opportunity to mentor expats and locals on the significance of working safely. He received a five-star rating after a 3-week intense audit from USAID and the Safety program was even recognized in the war room. While he brought back many ideas, the most valuable pieces have been the importance of being a mentor and support, as well as safety talks on all jobsites. Phillip understands that safety isn’t just something that you do, it’s a way of life.
Whether he’s working on a job safety analysis, visiting a jobsite, or looking over proper procedures, Phillip looks forward to work each day. He enjoys the relationships he has built with the Foremen, Field Employees and Project Managers across the various jobs in Orlando, including SunTrax, Orange County Convention Center, Disney and the surrounding hospitals. To be successful, Phillip knows that communication is key. He is always doing his best to bring a positive attitude and to put himself in the employees’ shoes, two things he believes can make all the difference. If he can motivate the employees and help them focus on their daily activities, Phillip considers that a step in the right direction. Overall, Phillip is proud to work for a company like W. W. Gay, where they are here to support you.
Thanks for all you do, Phillip!

This month Orlando is highlighting their project with Englewood Community Hospital in Englewood, FL. The scope consists of work done for their Emergency Department including ductwork, medical gas, plumbing fixtures and new rooftop units.
With this being a fully-functional hospital, the project must be completed in multiple phases to allow the facility to remain operational. As of now, the team is currently in Phase 1 working on rough-in duct and plumbing work. They have even enlisted the help of our Fort Meade office, led by Ron Loder to expedite the work. Completion date is expected for August 2022 and key personnel are as follows: Larry Richey (Foreman), Nick Koulias (Foreman), Ron Loder (Supervisor), Jeremy Stout (Superintendent), Jimmy Poff (Superintendent) and Laura Jones (Project Manager).
Looking forward to seeing the finished product, team! Keep up the great work.
As summer vacations come to an end and the kiddos get ready to return to school, our teams have been working around the clock to finish summer projects so that UF and K–12 schools can reopen in just a few days. Here are updates for some of our exciting projects:
• The UAA Football Practice Facility is in rough-in stages and moving very quickly.
• Our Healthcare Teams are working on multiple phases with projects at UF Shands, Lake City Medical Center, West Marion Community Hospital of Ocala, and V.A. Medical Center of Gainesville.
• Our Industrial Team has been working on projects at SiVance, GRU Kelly Plant, and UF Utility Projects.
• Our Service Team has been working around the clock with calls coming in all day and night and they are always at the top of their game.
The summer rain has not made our jobs easy, but somehow our Gainesville men and women know how to always bring the projects in on time and leave the customer happy. Let’s not forget our office staff that continue to work hard and support those in the field and keep us all moving.
Thank you to all!
It's time to invest in you! Join us for a fun series of skill-building workshops, in-person and virtually.
