Our Mission

The mission of W. W. Gay is to provide the best service, at the best value, with the best people

A Message From Our CEO

Dear W. W. Gay Family,

As we continue to navigate the expanding construction industry, I want to take a moment to emphasize the pivotal role that training and communication play in our collective success. Each of you is integral to our company’s growth, and your commitment to excellence sets us apart.

One of the cornerstones of our success is the continuous development of our team members, as highlighted in our 5-Year Strategic Plan. This focus on growth is something I hold personally important. I encourage each of you to not only pursue your own professional development but also invest time in training the person behind you. Our decades of success have been built on learning from those who came before us, who took the time to mentor the next generation. To sustain our success for another 60+ years, we must prioritize teaching others, whether by sharing new techniques or offering different perspectives. By imparting your knowledge and expertise, you ensure that our company remains strong and capable, even as we expand.

Effective communication is the bedrock of our operations. It’s crucial that we enhance the way we share information within our teams. Good communication helps us avoid misunderstandings, ensures safety, and improves project efficiency. I urge you to make a conscious effort to talk to your teams regularly, sharing insights, updates, and feedback openly. Remember, communication cannot stop with you. It is essential that the information flows seamlessly down the line. When you receive important updates or instructions, make sure they are passed on accurately and promptly. This chain of communication ensures that everyone is on the same page and can perform their duties effectively.

“Good communication helps us avoid misunderstandings, ensures safety, and improves project efficiency.”

Our company is growing, and with growth comes the need for more skilled individuals. As we expand, think about how we can continue this momentum. Who do you know that would be a great fit for our team? How can we improve our recruitment and onboarding processes? Your input and proactive efforts in identifying and nurturing talent are invaluable.

Lastly, as we aim for greater heights, let’s keep our commitment to excellence at the forefront.

Strive for quality in every task, big or small. Your dedication not only contributes to our current projects but also builds a solid foundation for future endeavors.

Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and continuous effort to make our company a leader in the industry. Together, by prioritizing training and enhancing communication, we can achieve remarkable growth and success.

Thank you for always being the Best in the Business!

Forging Ahead - The Next 5 Years

Hi Team,

As part of our 5-Year Strategic Plan, the Accounting Team is diligently advancing the “Efficient and Process Driven” initiative. This objective aims to analyze and streamline processes across the company to enhance productivity.

One significant task for the Accounting Team has been managing credit cards and fuel card holders. With over 400 credit cards issued companywide and our continued growth, we recognized the need to explore better options. After several months of thorough vetting, I am excited to announce our new credit card partnership with Wells Fargo.

Assistant Controller Gordon Brigance and Jeffrey Crump have been leading this effort. We anticipate going live in mid to late September, with more details forthcoming. Look for an email from Gordon later this month with specific rollout dates and training schedules.

This new program will be fully online, including a mobile app that allows real-time activity viewing, limit checks, receipt uploads and storage, and more.

Gordon and Jeffrey are dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition for all cardholders. We will provide in-person training and ample training documents to ensure a successful transition.

We look forward to sharing more details soon and believe this change will greatly benefit our company.

All the best,

In The Know

Making a Difference

The Orlando Office had an amazing time volunteering at Give Kids The World Village in Central Florida. This 89-acre nonprofit “storybook” resort provides weeklong, cost-free vacations to children with critical illnesses and their families. Our team enjoyed spending quality time with these incredible kids and their loved ones.

Summer Fun

The Jacksonville Office visited the YMCA Summer Camp during their “Thingamajig” week, which focused on STEM activities. We brought an interactive pipe-building activity where campers followed blueprints to create their own structures. It was a fun filled day of creativity and learning!

Here for the BBQ

The Orlando Office had a fantastic time at the 4th of July BBQ! They enjoyed a fun-filled evening with delicious food, great company, and festive celebrations.

Learning the Way

We were thrilled to welcome interns from Creekside High School with us for the summer! Over the course of 6 weeks, these students received a first-hand experience into the world of W. W. Gay, spending time in multiple Jacksonville departments including VDC, Estimating, Accounting, Project Management and many more. We hope this experience inspired a path to construction in their future.

In The Know

All the Buzz!

We recently teamed up with the First Coast Chapter of ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors) to host their Trivia Night event at our Jacksonville office. With over 90 attendees from various construction companies across the city, the event was a hit, packed with networking, friendly competition and brain-teasing trivia from Fast Jax Trivia! One of our Jacksonville teams even walked away as 1st place winners!

Thank you to ABC for allowing us to host and to everyone who came out for the event.

The Robins & Morton “R&M Way” !

Earlier this month, members of our Jacksonville team had the pleasure of participating in the Robins & Morton “R&M Way” event here in Jacksonville.

Our very own John Russell and Bill Brown had the opportunity to present our newly filmed “The History of W.W. Gay” video to a group of construction professionals from various Robins & Morton offices across the country.

This video allowed us to not only share our deeply rooted history in Florida with fellow construction professionals but also to highlight how our two firms have built a mutually successful relationship, attributed to our closely aligned Core Values.

Opportunities for communication and collaboration like these help strengthen our partnerships in the ever-changing construction industry, all while having a bit of fun along the way! Here’s to growing our relationships even stronger than before!

Staff Shout - Out

Benjamin De Brusay-Mabey

We’re excited to introduce Benjamin De Brusay-Mabey, our new Receiving Coordinator in the Orlando office!

Benjamin joined the W. W. Gay team just a month ago, bringing with him a wealth of experience from the power sports industry and a strong background in construction.

Benjamin was recommended for the position by his friend John Crews, and we’re thrilled to have him on board. Before coming to W. W. Gay, Benjamin managed a window warehouse for a construction company and has been involved in the industry since high school, working on job sites after school.

In his role as Receiving Coordinator, Benjamin is focused on organizing the shop and segregating parts to streamline loading and picking for job site needs. His goal is to enhance our organization and make the receiving process more efficient.

Benjamin’s favorite part about working with W. W. Gay has been the warm welcome and the supportive team environment. Outside of work, he’s passionate about riding motorcycles, offshore fishing, hitting the beach, drag racing, and attending Daytona motocross events. He also enjoys spending time with his Pitbull, Tuxedo.

Benjamin, thank you for your enthusiasm and for jumping right into the team with such ease. We’re looking forward to seeing the positive changes.

Bryce Olds

Congratulations to Bryce Olds, our newest Foreman in Orlando!

Bryce has been an integral part of the W. W. Gay team for the past five years. He began his journey with us as an apprentice and, thanks to his dedication and hard work, has been promoted to Foreman.

Before joining W. W. Gay, Bryce spent 20 years running his own dog boarding and daycare business. He always had a passion for learning a trade and saw W. W. Gay as the perfect place to fulfill that dream. His transition from business owner to apprentice and now Foreman has come full circle, showcasing his ability to adapt and follow his dream.

In his role as Foreman, Bryce is responsible for material job planning and ensuring that everyone on the job site is on the same page. His experience as a business owner has equipped him with the foresight needed to handle the complexities of the job site, and he credits much of his knowledge to the mentorship he received from his past foremen.

Bryce hopes to pass on the skills he’s acquired to new apprentices. He believes that the skills learned in our trade are valuable and transferable to many aspects of professional and personal life.

Outside of work, Bryce enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. They love the beach, watching movies, cooking dinner together, attending kids’ sports events, and catching concerts.

Bryce, thank you for your hard work, dedication, and positive impact on the W. W. Gay team. We’re grateful to have you with us!

David McCray

John Rabon

Jacksonville

John Rabon, an HVAC Service Technician at our Jacksonville office, has been a dedicated member of the W. W. Gay family for over 15 years. His interest in the industry was sparked during high school when his now-wife brought home a union flyer. Driven by a passion for hands-on work, John decided to apply for the apprenticeship, eventually gaining experience across various departments, including fabrication and plumbing, before finding his place in HVAC services.

Under the mentorship of Jason Williams, John was drawn to the HVAC department for its problem-solving aspects and the dynamic challenges it presents. Today, John handles a variety of tasks, from working with chillers and boilers to managing rooftop air conditioners and staying updated with the latest HVAC technology. His job is more than just technical, it’s about working as a team where friendships and loyalty are paramount. John appreciates the support and camaraderie from his colleagues, which adds a personal dimension to his professional life.

Over the past 15 years, John has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience. His time at W. W. Gay has taught him valuable lessons about teamwork, responsibility, and the importance of strong workplace relationships.

For John, W. W. Gay isn’t just a place of employment; it’s a community where he feels comfortable and valued.

He highlights the Bakers Distribution Center project as a key moment in his career—his first experience as a general foreman. The project was notably challenging due to a misquoted job estimate, which tested his ability to manage and adapt under pressure. This experience highlighted the importance of staying on top of project details and thorough documentation, offering John significant professional growth.

Outside of work, John is an active and engaged father. He enjoys traveling with his 9-year-old son’s baseball team and spending quality time with his 3-year-old daughter. John also enjoys deer hunting in his free time.

We are lucky to have you as part of the team, John!

Safety Corner

FROM YOUR DIRECTOR OF SAFETY

We are now entering the peak of Hurricane Season in our area, please review the helpful information below for work as well as for your home – Stay Safe.

Hurricane Preparation – Preparing for the Hurricane Season

Hurricane Overview

Hurricanes can produce winds in excess of 155 miles per hour, causing catastrophic damage to coastlines and several hundred miles inland.

Hurricanes can also lead to storm surges along the coast and cause extensive damage from heavy rainfall.

The Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June to November, with the peak season from August through October.

Preparing your Home

Create a hurricane emergency plan for your Family that includes an emergency kit, communication plan and evacuation plan.

Prepare your house and yard to protect against wind and flood damage.

Prepare vehicles with fuel and emergency supplies in case of evacuations.

Determine if you have additional property in the hurricane zone and take steps to safeguard (i.e., boats).

Home Preparation:

Build an emergency supply kit and make a family communication plan.

Learn the elevation level of your property and whether the land is flood-prone to best protect against the likelihood of storm surge or tidal flooding.

Learn hurricane evacuation routes and how to find higher ground. Determine where you would go and how you would get there if need to evacuate.

Cover all your home’s windows. Permanent storm shutters offer the best protection for windows. A second option is to board up windows with 5/8” marine plywood, cut to fit and ready to install. Tape does not prevent windows from breaking.

Install straps or additional clips to securely fasten your roof to the frame structure. This can reduce roof damage.

Be sure trees and shrubs around your home are well trimmed so they are more wind resistant.

Clear loose and clogged rain gutters and down spouts.

Reinforce your garage doors. If wind enters a garage, it can cause dangerous and expensive structural damage.

Make plans to secure your property. Bring in all outdoor furniture, decorations, garbage cans and anything not tied down.

Determine how and where to secure your boat (if applicable).

Install a generator for emergencies.

If in a high-rise building, be prepared to take shelter on or below the 10th floor. If in a home, determine the best location for a safe room.

Emergency Supply Kit: What to Prepare. Where to keep it.

Water: At least one gallon, daily, per person per person for three to seven days.

Food: Enough nonperishable food for at least three to seven days – include a manual can opener.

Radio: Battery-powered or hand-crank and a NOAA weather radio with tone alert.

Flashlights, batteries, and extra batteries.

First aid kit, medicines, glasses, and prescription drugs.

Whistle to signal for help.

Fully charged cell phones with backup battery power.

Cash (including small bills), traveler’s checks and change.

Dust mask to help filter contaminated air.

Plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-inplace.

Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation.

Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities.

Vehicles: Fuel and local maps.

Copies of important documents in a waterproof or watertight bag: Insurance policies Identification records Bank account records

Kit Tip: Keep this kit in a destinated place and have it ready in case you have to leave your home quickly. Make sure all family members know where the kit is located. In case you are stranded, keep a kit of emergency supplies in your car.

After the Hurricane: Inspect - Report - Recover

Contact your Broker and claims representative.

Take photographs/videos of all damaged areas (property, products, etc.).

Report injuries, state of building, impairments of utilities, community services and conditions (roads, sewers, water, etc.) to managements.

Check foundations and piping. Secure the site (lock doors, fences, etc.).

Inspect roofs (entire area and perimeter), roof mounted equipment, walls, windows (outside and inside), doors and entire yard. Clean roof drains and remove debris from roof to prevent drainage problems.

Eliminate safety hazards such as live wires, leaking gas, flammable liquids and hazardous materials releases. DO NOT TOUCH OR MOVE EXPOSED BARE WIRES. Call the proper utilities for handling these situations.

Repair damage to automatic fire sprinkler systems and restore protection as soon as possible. Use an impairment monitoring system whenever automatic fire sprinklers and/or water suppliesare impaired.

Contact your risk/insurance manager in case of loss.

Call key personnel and restoration and contractors to start repairs. Make sure safety systems are fully operational before work is allowed to begin. Control smoking. Use cutting and welding permits. Make contractors responsible for fire-safety conditions.

Begin salvage as soon as possible to prevent further damage.

Cover broken windows and torn roof coverings immediately.

Separate damaged goods but do not accumulate combustibles inside buildings.

Contact your insurance company for guidance in restoring fire protection.

Visually check damaged bus bars, conductors, and insulators before re-energizing the main electrical distribution system. In case of doubt, contact an electrician. DO NOT TOUCH OR MOVE EXPOSED BARE WIRES.

REMINDER: Stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids: regardless of how active you are. Do not wait until you are thirsty to drink. Hydrate prior, during and after work. An average person sweats between roughly 27 oz. to 47 oz. per hour during intense labor. To put that amount into perspective, an average water bottle holds 16. 9oz.Take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors where there is AC.

Take heat stress seriously. Know the signs and symptoms of heat stress. Have a plan to get the proper medical attention for any individual displaying symptoms of heat stress. When dealing with heat stroke especially, it may mean the difference between life and death.

As always, we are available to all employees. If you have any questions or safety-related concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you and stay well,

Gainesville

• An Air-Cooled Screw Chiller

2 Chilled Water Pumps with VFDs

New Chilled Water Piping in the Mechanical Room

HCA South Carolina Hospital Jacksonville

We’d love to give a big shout-out to Dalton Stenbeck, Cody Peterson, Timothy Moegenburg, Maxwell Petty, and Joshua Bishop, on our Mechanical team for continuing to prove why our employees are STILL the best in the business!

Our company received an urgent call on Sunday, July 14th from HCA South Carolina Hospital. They had been without adequate cooling since Friday, the 12th, and unfortunately had to redirect patients elsewhere.

Our incredible team sprang into action, acquiring a temporary chiller all the way from Alabama, which arrived in the early hours of Monday morning. By the evening, our dedicated team had worked tirelessly on piping changes, connections, setting water flows, resetting drives, and more.

Thanks to their unwavering commitment and hard work, we were able to get the hospital back in business quickly, ensuring they could continue to serve their community and prioritize patient care.

We are immensely proud and grateful for the outstanding efforts of our team. You all truly exemplify what makes our employees the best in the business!

Orlando Advent Health Altamonte - Wound Care Clinic

Beginning earlier this year in January, our Orlando plumbing, and sheet metal teams have begun work on an exciting project - the interior renovations of the Wound Care clinic at Advent Health in Altamonte.

These interior renovations encompass a wide range of upgrades, from the HVAC and Plumbing systems to the underground and aboveground sewer lines, domestic water lines, medical gas systems, plumbing fixtures, and much more! With all of these upgrades, we are able to assist Advent Health in servicing their patients’ needs like never before!

Our teams have been unwavering in their commitment, working consistently and with upmost caution to ensure the project progresses smoothly within the building without much interruption to the surrounding areas. The expected completion date is right around the corner with this renovation set to be done this upcoming Spring.

We couldn’t be more grateful to the team for their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts on and off this jobsite!
