Sports
Varsity Football
Football at Winona State could be considered a half and half season. Starting out the season as a strong contender, they won their first three games over Stout, Loras, and Moorhead by scores of 20 to 12, 22 to 8, and 42 to 0. But with a string of injuries and the loss of Captain John Ganga through ineligibility, coach Madeo (Moon) Molinari't team could only salvage one tie out of the remaining five games, that being a 6 to 6 deadlock with St. Cloud. They lost to Mankato, Bemidji, Michigan Tech., and Northland. Individual honors went to Gino Nardini, who was named AllNorthern State College Conference and honorable mention on the Associated Press Little All-America team. Dick Brown gained a halfback spot on the Northern State College Conference first team and Chuck Schneider and Arnie Satter were selected on the second team.
Varsity Basketball
This season, coach Joe Gerlach's team won five while losing fifteen. They opened the season by losing their first five games before defeating Stout, 90 to 65, for their first victory. In the opening of conference action, the Warriors bowed to Mankato, 72 to 67. Later, they suffered three straight heartbreaking defeats, losing to Moorhead twice and Bemidji by a combined total of four points. The Warriors then came on strong to win four oftheir last six games. Their first conference triumph came when they stopped Mankato, 84 to 77. They followed with another win, defeating Milton, 65 to 61. After losing to La Crosse, they defeated Bethel, 89 to 78. They lost to St. Cloud, but came back in rousing fashion to whip Michigan Tech., 108 to 80.
Let's hope it goes in, Larry

Coach Bob Jones' crew defeated River Falls twice. La Crosse, Mankato, Luther, and Wartburg, while losing only to Macalaster.

Intramurals
W.R.A.
The W.R.A. again enjoyed a sucessful season. With Miss Moravec as advisor, the activities were planned and directed by a board of six and President, Daisy Morikami; Vice-President, Janice Jacobson; and Secretary-Treasurer, Lillian McKenzie. The intramural activities included volleyball, basketball, softball, bowling and badminton. The club also sponsored a college sports day and a modern dance clinic which Jean Burgess conducted. Beside participâting in activities within our college, teams were sent to other college playdays. The club is a member of ARFC and Doris Kamla is the regional delegate.
Cheerleaders
Leading the cheers from Maxwell Field to the basketball floor were our four capable cheerleaders. They tried to build up the school's spirit at games through the use of megaphones, new yells and pep songs.
There was a successful pep feast at Lake Park which the girls helped organize and carry out. They also worked with the newly formed Dy-Na-Mo Club in order to build up a cheering section at the basketball games. Thanks to the girls the school spirit has greatly improved. Captain this year was Kathy Juhl.
Fight, team. Fight!
W.P.E.
The Woman's Physical Education Club opened to all physical education majors and minors. At the monthly meetings, the girls explored topics of interest. The members sold homecoming buttons for the purpose of raising money for the Jean Talbot Scholarship Fund which is a W.P.E. sponsored scholarship for women in physical education. They also took care of the coat check and they assisted with the freshman physical examinations and motor ability tests. They also sponsored a high school play day. Officers were President, Helen Beberg; Vice-President, Daisy AAorikami; and SecretaryTreasurer, Dorothy Steffens. Miss Day was the adviser.
Warriorettes
In their second year as the college drill team, the Warriorettes proved to be one of the most popular new organizations of the college. Beside drawing up their own constitution and getting new uniforms, the girls performed at homecoming, basketball games and for the Winona Activity Group. The team also marched in the St. Paul Winter Carnival and in the Winona Winter Carnival in which they won third place. Films were taken of the girls and they were shown on KROCTV. The seacon was closed by a performance at the opening of the Fountain City-Cochrane gym. The girls performed such routines as: Honey Bun, Snowflake. Wooden Soldiers and Night Train. Advisor was Mrs. Hoph. The Director and choreographer, Nancy Tubb; and manager. Burton Ferrier.
Di-No-Mo
The Di-No-Mo club was organized this year by the Athletic Commissioner, Larry Whittier, to stimulate more school spirit at athletic events. They lead the school in cheers, maintained a pep band and furnished bells and drums to cheer the teams on to victory.
