Pataka Kai clothing shop

The K kiri Marae P taka Kai runs a pre-loved clothing shop that helps pay for the food P taka Kai provides to needy people.

It is located on the church side of the P taka Kai, which is based at St Peter’s Church in Wise Street.
The pre-loved clothing shop is open from 9am to 2:30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
“We have got some beautiful stuff coming into the shop,” says Dacrcelle Jensen, who manages the shop as a volunteer.
“We also have crafts. We have lots of different things – all sorts of different crafts.”
The crafts include knitted blan- kets, knitted jumpers, patchwork aprons and lavender bags.

“I am looking for volunteers who can come in or who can make them from home,” Darcelle says.
“Everything we sell on this site is to raise funds to help buy food for P taka Kai to give to people who need it.
“I love what we stand for. I love doing things to help the community. It’s a great kaupapa,” she says.
She also loves the Wainuiomata community, as demonstrated by P taka Kai putting together parcels to send to Napier and Hastings to help people there who have been devastated by Cyclone Gabrielle.
“it’s just incredible what people have brought in. We have an amazing community here in Wainuiomata.”
