We are almost halfway through the Italian F4 Championship certified by FIA, with three rounds disputed and four still to be completed, but the fight for the title has certainly only just begun. The current leader, Arvid Lindblad, who has achieved three victories in the first six races of the season, saw his advantage over Ugo Ugochukwu diminish, the latter able to triumph in the last race of the Spa-Francorchamps weekend. The Anglo-American pair will also have to contend with other drivers: for example, with Zachary David, still chasing his first victory, or with James Wharton, who achieved a brilliant double in Belgium. Or, again, with Brando Badoer, Kacper Sztuka, Nicola Lacorte or Tuukka Taponen, all in the top positions in the rankings. It is no coincidence that, after ten races, there were six different drivers who achieved successes: a fact that is a clear indicator of the great balance of forces in the field. This is precisely why, from now on, the protagonists of the Italian F4 Championship certified by FIA will have to manage every detail and be careful not to make the slightest mistake. Especially on a fast, demanding and historic circuit like that of the Autodromo Nazionale Monza which, close to the thousandth, has produced numerous Formula 1 champions, and that, also this year, will be the perfect scenario to celebrate the champions of tomorrow.

James Wharton (Prema Racing) proved to be a cool customer in the first race of the Italian F4 Championship certified by FIA. The Australian driver, who gained pole position in the qualifying, started perfectly and maintained his position, while immediately behind him the battle for second place between Luca Badoer (Van Amersfoort Racing), Zachary David (US Racing), Kacper Sztuka (US Racing) and Arvid Lindblad (Prema Racing) ignited. However, after a few laps, the race was temporarily suspended due to an accident, fortunately without any particular consequences. The race resumed behind the safety car and, at the restart, Wharton tried once again to get away, this time with David, Badoer, Ugo Ugochukwu (Prema Racing) in the positions immediately behind him. With a minute to go, a second red flag effectively ended the battle on the track and gave Wharton his first victory in the Italian championship. David and Badoer, second and third respectively, completed the podium.

James Wharton (Prema Racing) achieved his second consecutive win in the second race of the Italian F4 Championship certified by FIA. The Australian, once again in pole position, defended himself very well from an attack at the start by Kacper Sztuka (US Racing) and took command of the race. The action on the track lasted only a few laps because, due to an accident, the safety car intervened to regroup the drivers. At the restart, Wharton easily stayed in the lead, chased by Sztuka and Arvid Lindblad (Prema Racing). However, the safety car had to reenter the track due to a car that had stopped in the gravel. The second restart saw Sztuka manage to overtake Wharton at the end of the Kemmel straight, but moments before a further incident at the rear forced the stewards to raise the red flag. The final positions were therefore decided on the basis of the previous lap: Wharton first, with Sztuka and Lindblad on the remaining steps of the podium. Fourth place for Akshay Bohra (US Racing), fifth for Raphael Narac (R-ace GP).

A brilliant achievement by Ugo Ugochukwu (Prema Racing) in the last race of the weekend at SpaFrancorchamps. When the lights went out, Kacper Sztuka (US Racing) led the pack after the first corner, but a subsequent contact with Arvid Lindblad (Prema Racing) forced the Pole to start from the bottom and the Briton to retire. Zachary David (US Racing) then took the lead, with Ugochukwu able to move up from sixth on the grid to second. As happened in the other two races, the safety car took to the track due to an accident at the first corner and this allowed the drivers to regroup. At the restart, David stayed in the lead, but an unstoppable Ugochukwu overtook him after just one lap. The American crossed the finish line first, ahead of David in second place and James Wharton (Prema Racing) in third. Brando Badoer (Van Amersfoort Racing) came close to the podium, coming fourth.

FIRST TIME FOR THE PHILIPPINES

Over the years the Italian F4 Championship certified by FIA has become a springboard for many young kart drivers from all over the world, thanks also to the excellent promotional work carried out by ACI Sport and WSK Promotion. 2023 marked the first ever participation for the Philippines, thanks to the presence of Zachary David and, more recently, Bianca Bustamante. The former, a US Racing driver, spent five years driving karts in Europe, made his debut this season in single-seaters and also has a Maltese license. Instead, the Prema Racing driver competed in his first single-seater race in 2022 and from this year is racing for the F1 Academy, an all-female championship affiliated to Formula 1 that races with Tatuus F4-T-421 single-seaters, the same ones used in the Italian series.
