Adjectives like German, Polish, Ukrainian or Czech are meaningless applied to medieval ages, especially in multicultural regions like Upper Silesia, Lesser Poland or Galicia. If we want to keep it politically correct, we can call it a matter of historiographical points of view. One could also say that this is a form of colonisation of the past by nation states. The territories occupied by Nazi Germany had to be German, even their past. This is how anonymous artists that worked in Central Europe were nothing but German.
