STATE SANCTIONING

State Sanctioning 12 STATES SANCTIONED IN 1 YEAR - GOAL OF ALL 38 STATES IN 4 YEARS Opportunities Wrestle Like A Girl has identified the following States that it will focus on in 2019 via Empowerment Camps/Clinics: New York Michigan Oklahoma Pennsylvania New Mexico

New York State Summary • Bottom up state sanctioning process • Barry, Yamamoto, and Fulp have been fostering this process and advise that WLAG camps in both upstate and downstate will be useful in 2019 as NY is a state that all stakeholders need to “be loud” (athletes, parents, coaches, AD’s) and the process needs to be strategic as all 11 Sections need to be on board for sanctioning to occur. • WLAG is awaiting to hear if upstate or downstate would be the better location to initially hold a camp/clinic. • Sally will be presenting to Section 4-6, 06 Feb 2019

Michigan State Summary

• Hosting an unofficial girls’ state tournament in 2019. • Sean Bormet (University of Michigan Wrestling Coach) reached out with interest to hold a UM/WLAG camp in 2019. Amy has been trying to connect since Dec 2018.

Oklahoma State Summary

• Activity has been very low as compared to other states. • Christie Mullins, personal friend of WLAG, is now the USAW State Director • Sally & Amy have opened the door for dialogue on holding a WLAG Camp in Oklahoma in 2019.

Pennsylvania State Summary • Close ties to the stakeholders working the process in PA. • High boys’ #s currently. • Men’s NCAA Championships will be in Pittsburg, PA March 2019, offering prime opportunity for advocating, lobbying, and gaining support.

New Mexico State Summary • Hosted an exhibition girls state tournament at the boys’ state tournament in 2018. • USAW H.S. sanctioning committee feels this state would benefit from the visibility that hosting a WLAG Camp in 2019.
