EVER-EVOLVING WORLD OF CONSERVATION EDUCATION

CURRENT STRATEGIES IN PRESERVING BIODIVERSITY – SEMINAR

WRC Jogja and Wildlife Conservation Forum (WCF) Jogja jointly presented an insightful seminar on connecting ex-situ and in-situ conservation efforts This event aimed to establish a strong link between these two crucial conservation practices in order to protect endangered species. The seminar, which was delivered by Jochen Menner, a curator at Prigen Conservation Breeding Ark, provided a platform for experts and enthusiasts to share their knowledge and experiences about the conservation of critically endangered species native to Indonesia, especially Java. It was a remarkable opportunity to learn about the latest strategies and techniques employed in preserving biodiversity.

SPECIES CONSERVATION ACTION

The Malayan giant turtle (Orlitia borneensis) is one of the critically endangered species listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species This species holds a special place in our hearts The extinction of this species and habitat loss are of particular concern to our team. As we continue to run this crucial program, we remain steadfast in our commitment to species conservation The success of its natural breeding in our rehabilitation center in the past brings us new hope for the species' long-term survival, and we hope that by releasing it into its natural habitat in Kalimantan and Sumatra in the future, we can contribute to reinforcing its population in the wild.

While our focus is on the relocation stage, we also take measures to secure the well-being and future of these species’ individuals Since the end of last year, we have been working with our partners to comanage a productive population of this species at the zoo These efforts have finally led to an exciting development! Recently, we had a delightful surprise when we discovered a clutch of turtle eggs in the pond This has brought us new hope and excitement for our joint efforts!

This conservation project would not have been possible without the support of the Yogyakarta Nature Conservation Agency and our partners, such as Gembiraloka Zoo, Konklusi Foundation, and Indonesia Herpetofauna Foundation Without the financial boost from the IUCN Asian Species Action Partnership (ASAP), this program would not have made it this far.

Together, with the support and collaboration of our partners, we are determined to further the success of this breeding program. By protecting and nurturing these precious Malayan giant turtles, we are working towards a brighter future for this critically endangered species. Stay tuned for more updates as we chart new milestones in our ongoing efforts to safeguard these fascinating creatures

BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE, TOGETHER.

Since the end of 2022, WRC Jogja has been actively involved in the crucial task of relocating all animals to their new homes. As we navigate through this transitional period, our focus remains on ensuring a smooth and successful relocation process. However, it is important to note that operational costs continue to be a priority for us.

This includes the maintenance of our valuable assets, meeting the necessary survey requirements, and procuring essential goods for our ongoing Orlitia conservation project

Your support in the form of donations during this transition period would be greatly appreciated as we strive to provide the best possible care for our beloved animals.

We are incredibly grateful for the continuous support that Kitabisa.com has provided us with through product support. Their generosity has allowed us to carry out our activities and make a positive impact in the community. Additionally, we have opened a crowdfunding campaign through Benevity Causes, and we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of donors who have contributed little by little to help us reach our goals.

However, as we embark on the construction of a new site, we realize that it requires a significant amount of funding. Therefore, we turn to you, our dedicated donors and supporters, with a humble request for your continued assistance. With your help, we can bring to life our vision of a new and improved location to preserve our nature.

We are excited about the possibilities that this new site will bring It will allow us to expand our services and reach even more individuals who are in need of assistance. By contributing to our fundraising efforts, you are not only helping us build a physical space but also creating a platform for positive change in the community.

No donation is too small, and no contribution is too little.

Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve. We invite you to visit our website at https://wrcjogja.org/siterelocation/ to learn more about our current needs and how you can support us. Let's come together and make this new location a reality!

SO WHAT'S ON THE HORIZON?

What will happen next? Wildlife Rescue Centre Jogja is committed to furthering its impact in conservation education. With a passion for wildlife preservation, our team will continue to develop and expand our educational programs, reaching out to communities and schools to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our natural heritage Through interactive workshops, engaging presentations, and field trips, we aim to instill a sense of responsibility and care for the environment in the younger generation

As we look ahead, we also have a big project on the horizon: we will be relocating our current site to a larger and more suitable location. This move will allow us to provide an enhanced environment for the animals under our care, ensuring their well-being and facilitating their rehabilitation process. We believe that this relocation will not only benefit the animals but also allow us to expand our capacity to rescue and rehabilitate more wildlife in need.

But that's not all! As part of our efforts to reach a wider audience and stay connected with our supporters, we are thrilled to announce the upcoming relaunch of our website Our new and improved site will be more user-friendly, visually appealing, and packed with valuable information about our organization, the species we work with, and how individuals can get involved. We want our website to be a hub of knowledge and inspiration for anyone passionate about wildlife conservation.

As we move forward with these exciting developments, we invite you to join us on this journey. Together, we can make a significant impact on the conservation of wildlife and ensure a brighter future for our planet's precious biodiversity.
