The most up-to-date way to follow what’s happening at Wembley Primary School is through our website, twitter and face book. You can now follow us on Twitter @wembleyprimary. We also have a wembleyprimary facebook page and we have recently updated our website. www.wembleyprimary.co.uk Year 6 Trip To London On Saturday 16th March, for the first time in Wembley Primary School's history, children in Year 6 were accompanied in small groups, led by staff who had given up their Saturday to take children on a special London Adventure. Children visited many different famous landmarks such as Big Ben, Nelson's Column, The Shard, Downing Street, The London Eye, as well as visiting exhibitions and shows within Museums such as The National History Museum, and The Hayward Gallery Light Show. One group even managed to squeeze in a trip to a beach! All the destinations, sights seen, and attractions visited were chosen by the children, many of which they were visiting and seeing for the very first time. A big thank you to all our staff who gave up a Saturday to take part in this adventure. Please visit our website for photos of the day.

Issue 42 March 2013 Year 6 SATs Every year nationally all children in year 6 take part in SAT tests. This year they will take place Monday 13th MayThursday 16th May. A timetable will be shared with the year 6 children. Children will complete; • A reading comprehension test • Spelling , Punctuation and Grammar test (NEW) • 2 Maths tests (one with a calculator) • Mental maths test These tests are externally marked. Writing and Science levels will be assessed through Teacher Assessment. In July we will report the levels children have achieved to parents. Unlike previous years, there will not be an overall English level but rather separate levels will be reported for; Reading, Writing and Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar. We will be running a free breakfast club for year 6 children during SATs week, more information to follow. Author Visits at Wembley Primary On 12th March Michael De Souza author of Rastamouse came into school to work with year 4 and Steve Marchant, author and cartoonist worked with year 5. On Tuesday 26th March author Sarah Dyer will be working with year 1 on her book, ‘The girl with a birds nest in her hair.’ In addition Karin Little, will be working with Year 3 on extending their writing through her book ‘Imi’.

Attendance We would like to remind families that Governors at Wembley Primary made the decision last year that any holiday/special leave would not be authorised. We therefore strongly request that families take holidays during the school holidays. Please note that all families who take unauthorised leave are referred to the Educational Welfare Officer which could result in families receiving a fixed penalty fine. We aim for all our children to achieve at least 95% attendance, as there is a strong link between children achieving well and good attendance. The Phonics Screening Check-Year 1 The phonics screening check is a quick check of your child’s ability to read words using his or her phonic knowledge. It helps us to confirm whether your child has met the standard for a child at the end of Year 1. This will take place in the summer term. The outcomes of this check will be reported to parents with the end of term reports. __________________________ Class Assemblies All class assemblies take place in the main hall on Fridays at 9am; 26th April-3W 3rd May-2F 10th May-2S 17th May-2W 24th May-2P 14th June-1F 21st June-1S 28th June-1P 5th July-1W
