Changi Airport Group has awarded an S$1.1 billion contract to a joint venture formed by Hock Lian Seng Infrastructure and Sembcorp Design and Construction for the second package of works relating to the development of a three-runway system at Singapore Changi Airport.

The award is the result of a competitive tender which saw the participation of four tenderers.

“To make MV Werften into one of the world’s most modern and efficient cruise shipyards, we will invest €100 million in a thin plate laser welding line, a cabin module factory, a new covered section block building hall, the modernisation of manufacturing control systems and new executive and employee offices and facilities,” said Tan Sri KT Lim, chairman, Genting Group.

MV Werften will deliver the first of four luxury Crystal River ships in 2017, the first of a series of 20,000 gross ton Crystal Endeavor Class polar expedition yachts in 2018 and the first of a series of 201,000 gross ton Star Cruises Global Class cruise ships by 2020.

The planned annual output of MV Werften will be stepped up in future years to eventually build two Neo-Panamax cruise ships of over 200,000 gross tons each and one Panamax cruise vessel.

MV Werften has docks, fabrication halls and painting shops which are all covered and, as a result, is able to produce cruise ships of the highest quality and workmanship, valued at more than €2.5 billion. With Vietnam Airlines growing into a global carrier, Meliá Hotels growing its footprint in the country, and InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort launching a new spa programme, there is plenty going on in Vietnamese tourism. Here Breaking Travel News brings you the latest.

Showcasing its global ambitions, Vietnam Airlines signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus for ten more A350900 aircraft last month.

“The intention to acquire these additional aircraft reflects our excellent experience with the A350 since it entered service with Vietnam Airlines last year,” said Duong Tri Thanh, president, Vietnam Airlines. “With its very long range capability, economic fuel

consumption and spacious cabin, the A350 is the ideal aircraft for our proposed intercontinental routes to Europe and the US. The start of non-stop transpacific services with the A350 is yet another example of the commitment we have at Vietnam Airlines to strengthen our position as one of the world’s leading international carriers.”

Last year, Vietnam Airlines became the first airline in East Asia and the second in

the world to operate the A350-900 XWB. The carrier already has four aircraft in service, with another ten on firm order for future delivery.

It is also good news for British manufacturing as A350 engines are exclusively supplied by Rolls-Royce and its wings are also produced in the UK. “Today’s agreement further consolidates the A350’s position as the new long haul leader in the mid-size wide-body category,” said Fabrice Brégier, Airbus president. “The A350 XWB has quite simply set new standards in its class, combining unbeatable operating economics with the highest levels of passenger comfort. We look forward to working closely with Vietnam Airlines as it continues to develop its long haul network and strengthens its position in the premium market.”

This new agreement expands Meliá’s footprint in Vietnam, underscored by the company’s resort management leadership, to cater to the increasing demands of tourism and travel in the country.

There are channels of various sizes between the atolls used for navigation. For efficient administrative functioning, the 26 natural atolls are categorised into 20 administrative divisions. Particularly the island nation is located in a strategic area with access to major international sea routes in the Indian Ocean.

The Maldives, located on top of a vast underwater mountain range have around 1190 islands and sandbanks. The pearl string like islands covers a land area of no less than 298 km2. All the islands are encircled by a lagoon blessed with crystal clear water. These islands are protected by a reef structure, housing one of the most exclusive and spectacular underwater life.
