An Introduction to Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a type of therapy that combines elements of hypnosis and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). It is a brief, goal-oriented therapy focusing on identifying and achieving positive outcomes.
The history of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be traced back to the work of American psychologists Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg. They developed Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) in the 1980s. Many therapists, counsellors, medical professionals and business people are using solution focused elements in their approach. This is because it is successful in achieving positive results, quickly.
The neuroscience of hypnosis
Hypnosis is a state of consciousness in which an individual's attention is focused, and their suggestibility is heightened. Research has shown that hypnosis can have various effects on the brain, including changes in neural activity, connectivity and structure.
One of the key areas of the brain that is involved in hypnosis is the prefrontal cortex. This part is responsible for higher-order cognitive functions such as attention, working memory, and decision-making. Studies have shown that hypnosis can lead to changes in prefrontal cortex activity.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy techniques
Solution focused hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach based on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) principles and uses hypnosis to help clients achieve their goals. Here are some key solution focused hypnotherapy techniques that we use:
1. Relaxation and induction techniques
2. Positive language and positive suggestion
3. Future-oriented visualization techniques
4. Solution focused questioning
5. Hypnotic metaphors

Hypnotherapy equipment
Each student will have the opportunity to obtain a Hypnophix Trance State Indicator. The Hypnophix Trance State Indicator is a powerful tool that combines the MyndBand EEG Brainwave Headset with a user-friendly Android app. The MyndBand headset is lightweight, comfortable, and simple to use.
The app guides the therapist, helping them determine the best trance state window to deliver the correct suggestions. The app utilizes a brainwave frequency indicator which highlights the target range for trance (specifically, Low Alpha and Theta waves at 7.8Hz).
Once the MyndBand headset is connected to the app, the therapist can view real-time brainwave frequencies and the target zone on a single-page interface. As the client enters the desired state of trance, indicated by reaching the target zone, the lights on the app change from yellow to green. This serves as a notification to the therapist that the client is in a receptive and preferred state.
With this intuitive interface, the therapist can effectively target the timing of various parts of the trance, induction, deepener, body, and metaphor.
No more guesswork or relying on subjective feelings. This portable EEG will give you the edge to excel in your career.
Business potential
As you consider embarking on your journey of starting a hypnotherapy business, it's essential to recognize the landscape you'll be entering. In the UK, there are currently around 8,000 hypnotherapists practising. The Solution Focused Training Academy (SFTA), see it as crucial to provide you with the knowledge and strategies to stand out and succeed.
Building a successful hypnotherapy business goes beyond simply opening your doors to clients. It requires careful planning and the completion of necessary administrative tasks, which we will thoroughly explore during the course. We want to ensure you have a solid foundation for running your business effectively.
Part of this planning process involves estimating your potential earnings. As an SFTA graduate, you are expected to charge between £60-£80 for a 50-minute session. Remember, your skills are valuable, so don't undersell yourself!
When it comes to scheduling appointments, flexibility is in your hands. However, a busy Solution Focused Hypnotherapist can comfortably see 6-7 clients daily.
Knowing this, you can now conclude how much time you want to spend practising hypnotherapy per week. Whether full or part-time, it's time to give it some thought.
Maximizing your schedule means that you can earn around £490 per day (£70.00 per session).

Do you have a question?
What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH), and how is it different?
Focusing on the outcome: SFH emphasizes finding solutions to problems rather than dwelling on the problem itself. The therapist and client work together to identify the client’s desired outcomes and then focus on ways to achieve those outcomes.
Evidence based: SFH techniques integrate principles from neuroscience, cognitivebehavioural therapy, NLP, and positive psychology.
Language and Communication: the therapist encourages the client to use positive language and focus on positive outcomes. It’s all about the POSITIVES.
What qualifications do I need to train as a Clinical Hypnotherapist?
You don’t need any, just great enthusiasm and dedication to succeed.
How do you hypnotize someone?
Hypnotizing someone can be a surprisingly simple process! Our brains naturally enter into trance-like states throughout the day. During a hypnotherapy session, we provide a supportive environment that allows the client's mind to enter this relaxed state. We gently guide the client into deep relaxation and focus using structured scripts and language patterns. This is how we bypass the clients 'critical faculty’ . This is the clients internal filter we all use to interpret how the world works based on what has been learnt.
How much is the course?
The price of the course is £560
We have two choices for you:

How do I get new clients?
Our hypnotherapy course offers expert guidance on effective marketing strategies, drawing on the experience of existing hypnotherapists while considering individual preferences. By applying these strategies, you can attract a steady flow of new clients to your practice and establish a successful hypnotherapy business.
What can I do with my qualification after I graduate?
After you are awarded your certificate, you have several options. You can establish a private practice and offer clients in-person or online sessions. Additionally, you can specialise in corporate wellness and provide services to businesses. Practitioners may decide to focus on areas such as sports performance, weight management, and children's well-being. Plus, many hypnotherapists give paid-for talks to local groups. We teach you how to deliver these too.
Is hypnotherapy regulated?
If you're considering becoming a hypnotherapist in the UK, it's important to note that this field has no statutory regulation, unlike counselling and psychotherapy. However, you can still establish yourself as a credible and ethical hypnotherapist by obtaining accredited training and joining professional associations. Doing so will give your clients peace of mind because they'll know that you have undergone rigorous training and are held to high ethical standards.
To become accredited, you must complete a specific level of education, training, and practical experience. In addition, you need to commit to ongoing professional development, supervision, and adherence to a code of conduct.
How effective is online hypnotherapy?
Our hypnotherapy training course allows you to choose how you wish to work, whether online or face-to-face or both. As a result of the pandemic, many of our graduates have successfully transitioned to online practices, with some even choosing to work solely online. Research indicates that online therapy can be just as effective, if not more effective, than face-to-face therapy. In fact, Professor Peter Whorwell from the University of Manchester published an article in the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis stating that online hypnotherapy was just as effective as faceto-face therapy, with no significant differences in outcomes reported.
Enrolling in our hypnotherapy training course will give you the skills and expertise needed to succeed in today's rapidly evolving therapy landscape. Whether you choose to work online or in person, our comprehensive training program will prepare you to provide effective and compassionate care to your clients and make a meaningful difference to their lives.
What is the difference between the Distance Learning course and the In-Person course?
The key differences are in the delivery format, level of accreditation, and pathway to further training. The in-person course offers over 120 hours of classroom learning, hands-on practice, and exclusive content such as grief, regression, and parts therapy. It leads to two prestigious qualifications — the SFHD and the HPD — and is recognised as the highest award at this level in the UK. Graduates can apply for the Advanced Diploma immediately upon qualifying. The distance learning course is flexible and self-paced, delivered through written materials, videos, and Zoom tutor support. It leads to the SFHC certificate and allows access to the Advanced Diploma after six months of clinical practice. Both options grant access to the HIVE post-graduate support centre and are excellent routes to becoming a qualified hypnotherapist.
