An expert guide to the original meaning and practice of pranayama, the foundational Indian yogic tradition.
We seem to have forgotten what Yoga is and where it comes from.
In a way, we stole Yoga from India and pretended it was ours. In the West, Yoga is perceived merely as a physical practice centred on movement and breathing. But Yoga is an ancient tradition passed down through verses from generation to generation.
By studying the ancient verses, you will bring together the physical and philosophical practice of Yoga and experience its true meaning.
The result of decades of pranayama practice, teaching and researching classical Indian scriptures, Pranayama Lost in Translation aims to revive the original meaning of pranayama in the West.
With reference to the original scriptures, this book will explain Yoga terminology and offer practical instructions for those wishing to go deeper on their pranayama journey.

Author Bio:
Jamie O'Dowd is Assistant Head of Senior School at St Christopher's School, Bahrain with responsibility for wellbeing, behaviour and pastoral care. His recent master’s in educational leadership and management research examined why wellbeing programmes can often fail in schools, a topic he has presented and spoken on at conferences around the Middle East in the last two years.
Born in Nottingham, he spent the early part of his career acting in local films and theatre before working professionally as an actor in London. It was while working on a Theatre in Education production, delivering drama workshops in schools and youth centres in the East End of London, that he first developed a love for teaching. After re-training as an English teacher, Jamie specialised in the pastoral care of children and young people, working as a Head of Year in schools in Nottingham and Bahrain before becoming Assistant Head with oversight of whole school wellbeing and pastoral systems.

The A-Z of Special Educational Needs is a treasure trove of advice and guidance for SENCos, teachers, support staff and leaders, organised around the 26 letters of the English alphabet. 'As teachers we all know pupils learn at different rates and require different levels and types of support at different points in their education to succeed. Skilful assessment allows teachers to ascertain what children know, what their barriers might be and what they need to learn next. Adapting teaching in a responsive way to this knowledge, by providing targeted support to pupils who are struggling, is likely to increase pupil success.' Neil Maslen & Lindsay Cooper-Smith

They will look closely and carefully at every aspect of a particular issue, analyse data, and only agree on interpretations after much consideration. While much of a school leader's work is relational, motivational, and relentless, bringing a forensic mindset to bear ensures that actions towards improvement are focused and thoughtful.
