ACTIVITIES WEEK OUTLINE
MONDAY 18 - FRIDAY 22 AUGUST 2025
PLEASE NOTE: Snow Camps commence from Sunday 17 August, the New Zealand (pre-booked) Snow Camp commences from Saturday 16 August, and the Snow Sports Race Team Camp commences the week prior. You will need to refer to the individual camp booklet for further dates and details once students have been allocated their Activities Week Camp.
The Activities Week Program provides a means whereby students with a range of differing backgrounds and experiences may broaden their experience and extend their competencies to meet their own individual needs and interests in a particular field for an extended period of time.
The program includes activities from each of the following areas: Outdoor Education including camps, Academic Enrichment and Remediation, Art and Craft, as well as Community Service.
The Activities Week program aims to:
• Provide opportunity to extend and apply school curriculum work in a more realistic, interesting and free environment.
• Improve physical and mental health, through development of interest in outdoor recreation as a non-competitive and individually fulfilling activity.
• Provide opportunities for students to develop skills of co-operative living, leadership, social responsibility and tolerance in group living.
• Provide opportunities for students to develop a sense of personal involvement and fulfilment and to be part of a caring community, as well as to interact with and be of service to the wide community.
• Opportunities for new students and staff to integrate seamlessly into the school community. It also works to strengthen existing student-student and student-teacher relationships.
• Encourage students to develop a fuller understanding and appreciation of the natural environment; to help them to become comfortable in “living with nature” to develop positive attitudes and approaches for preserving and conserving natural environments.
• Provide opportunities for students to develop an understanding of their own capabilities and limitations of others, through a variety of experiences.
• Provide opportunities for students to develop the attitudes and skills associated with self-reliance, especially in an outdoor situation; to develop self confidence and self-esteem through activities conducted in both urban and natural environments.
• Provide opportunity for students to express and extend their individual talents and have these recognised in a supportive way; in particular to provide a different situation for those who have less success (socially, academically and physically) in school and elsewhere.
• Provide mental and emotional satisfaction and practical benefit from exploring and developing an understanding of natural and urban environments.
The camps are listed in four groups:
• Overnight Camps (off-campus for the entire week).
• Off-campus Programs (off-campus daily).
• School-based Programs (based at school or based at school and travelling off-campus occasionally throughout the week).
• Pre-booked Camps.
Camps with a Compulsory Pre-camp Activity:
• Cross Country Skiing.
• Falls Creek Snowsports.
• New Zealand Snowsports.
• Mt Arapiles Rock Climbing.
• Mt Hotham Snowsports.
• Yarrawonga Golf.
Year 11 students do not participate in Activities at this time of year and therefore do not participate in these compulsory Activities. They are expected to meet with the camp coordinators to ensure they are adequately prepared for the camp.

POLICY RELATING TO STUDENTS WITHDRAWING FROM ACTIVITIES WEEK
• Participation by students in Activities Week Camps is a compulsory part of the school curriculum and all students are expected to participate. Bookings and arrangements are made on this expectation.
• In exceptional circumstances students may apply in writing to the Principal or Deputy Principal for an exemption from Activities Week Camps but only where this takes place before the camp ballot closes or any organising of the camp takes place. In these cases, a proportion of camps/activity costs will be charged to offset camp fixed costs. Permission is usually only granted where it involves a comparable activity and effort by the student (such as a national-level sporting event).
WITHDRAWAL/ABSENTEE CHARGEBACK COSTS POST CAMP
In the event that a student withdraws from the camp due to medical reasons, the school requires prior written notice accompanied by a valid medical certificate. In such cases, families will be responsible for all non-refundable costs incurred, including but not limited to flights, accommodation, and other pre-paid expenses.
For cancellations due to a change of mind or any non-medical reasons, families will be charged the full camp fee.

AVIATION: LEARN TO FLY AT TOCUMWAL
Ideal for students aged 14 years and over.
Aviation Camp takes us once again to Tocumwal where we will be based for the whole week. The airport will enable us to fly in more varied conditions due to huge runways (made for jets) and cross strips.
Students will undertake a customised intensive training course dependent on what level they are with their flying. We will be using the facilities available at the airport to undertake theory and flight planning sessions as well as downtime. It is expected that many students will undertake their first solo flights, final flight tests for Pilot Certificates, Cross Country and other Endorsements from this airport.
This camp has proven to be a very effective way to accelerate students’ training and reduces the number of hours required for a student to become qualified. Parents and students will have full control of their own flying hours and there is an opportunity to discuss this with Aviation staff shortly after the ballot.
The cost of flying is additional and you will receive a letter with an estimate of these costs prior to the end of Term 2.
Please note that this camp will depart Tyabb on Monday immediately following the safety briefing at 9:00am. Wheels up no later than 10:30am (weather permitting). Parents are welcome to watch the fleet depart. Students will start to arrive back at Tyabb on Friday at 4:00pm (weather permitting) and parents can collect students once aircraft are hangared.

Join us for five days of surfing and exploring Victoria’s Surf Coast.
From our base at Torquay Surf Lifesaving Club overlooking the ocean, we’ll walk down to the beach for a daily surfing lesson under the tuition of a surf school and qualified instructors. Whilst on Victoria’s Surf Coast we will also be taking part in other activities such as kayaking and some walks along the coast. We will also visit some iconic beaches and townships of the area.

DOWNHILL SKIING & BOARDING:
Two downhill snow camps are on offer for first timers and intermediates – one at Falls Creek and one at Mt Hotham. (The Snow Sports Race Team is a separate pre-booked camp for advanced skiers and boarders only).
As part of the upcoming camp ballot process, you will have the opportunity to express interest in a snow camp option. An Operoo form will be sent to parents/guardians to gather information regarding each student’s level of snow experience.
This information will assist in determining the most appropriate camp. Falls Creek is specifically designed for first timers or those wishing to try a new discipline. Mt Hotham is structured for those who have had a minimum of two weeks at the snow. Only first timers will be allocated to Falls Creek. Preference for each camp will be given to those who have not attended one before. It is important that you are honest about your ability.
Your parents MUST complete the Additional Information for Downhill Ski/Board Snow Camp Operoo by no later than Friday 16 May in order for you to be considered for a snow camp. Completing this Operoo does not guarantee you a place on a snow camp.
You will indicate on the Operoo whether you want to Ski or Board (you may not be able to change this decision once the groups are made up), and your experience level:
• Beginner: I have never been on skis/board.
• Novice: I am comfortable on green runs (I can ski linked turns or board “falling leaf” on most green runs).
• Intermediate: I am comfortable on blue runs (I can ski parallel turns or board linked turns, hockey stop and side slip on blue runs).
