PRE-K3 Fun at the Mini Petting Zoo Pre-K 3 will be finishing this school year learning all about how we can care for our plants and animals. A special guest stopped by and taught the Pre-K students how to properly care for some of the animals that we all know and love...a pig and goats! It was a beautiful day and our little students were so brave! We loved the time we were able to spend learning all about these beautiful animals!

Have a great summer! With love from Pre-K 3

1ST GRADE

Mrs. Melendez Mrs. Melendez’ first grade 2018-19 was a year of being balanced and caring. We enjoyed being risk takers by communicating through daily presentations in class. We were open minded when we used our Spanish language skills to order our food choices in line, and some friends used French during our money unit. Through science and stem activities we became more knowledgeable and thinkers by drafting, writing and creating 3D shapes and used symmetry during our animal world unit. As we reflect over this year, we realize how much we’ve grown and developed our inquiring minds. We go into second grade being more principled and reflective

THE EXOTICS

1st Grade Field Trip

15

1st Grade had the opportunity to visit a wildlife park called The Exotics, located here in The Woodlands. And it truly is a hidden gem! Students got to see a diverse range of animals, including hyenas, porcupines, monkeys, sloths, capybaras, and much more!

They even got to pet some animals, like armadillos and snakes! It was truly a hands-on learning experience!

2ND GRADE SPANISH Los Derechos de los NiĂąos In Spanish class, our second grade students were studying the rights of children, and they decided to put together a video with the help of Mrs. Sierra and Mr. Fernando to showcase a little bit of what they learned!

17

2ND GRADE Ms. Papar We had 2 guest speakers who came to our class and shared information on Invention and Discovery. We had Mr. Kennedy , Matilda’s father - who is himself an inventor / spoke about his own company and the few new things that he is inventing for his company. It was an excellent opportunity for our 2nd graders to learn about an inventor and his findings!!! The second person who came as a guest speaker was Leila’s grand mom from Hungary. Though she spoke in Hungary, her little grand daughter Leila and mom helped translating to our class. She was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in making students understand about past and present inventions at her time. She had bought pictures of different things which were used at that time and how things havechanged due to new technological inventions.

3RD

Grade 3rd grade had a fantastic time learning about microgreens. We got to taste different kinds of yummy microgreens. We also got to plant our own microgreens and observe how they grow! We sold our microgreens to raise money for other classrooms to grow their own microgreens, too! We also have been learning all about natural disasters. We built our own buildings with just foil, playdoh, and straws to see how well they could hold up in an earthquake! It was a lot of fun!

4TH

Grade

Fourth grade continues to work preparing for the PYP Exhibition learning about sustainability during the Sharing the Planet unit. Ed Irwin, a master beekeeper from Bee Harmony came to visit and share his experiences with the group. We learned about the many fascinating facts about the honey bees, creating pollinator-friendly gardens, and the importance of bees for the whole environment. We also went out on a field trip to Moon Valley nurseries where we learned about different plants and trees, how to grow them and take care of them, and some of their different characteristics. This gave the students some first-hand experience with selecting the right plants for a given environment to contribute to creating a greener environment.

VAN GOGH Exhibit MYP Field Trip Mrs. Smith’s 10th grade Art and Madame Arriaga’s French II & III students enjoyed a day touring the Van Gogh exhibit at the Houston Fine Arts Museum. This collection included drawings, paintings and many of Van Gogh’s famous letters to his brother Theo. At the end of the exhibit, students participated in the Interactive exhibit that lets spectators literally step into some of his most famous paintings. Brunch at Common Bond, in Houston’s Montrose district, allowed students to sample authentic French pastries like Macarons, KouignAmann, Chocolate Croissants and Cappuccino!! It was such a fun experience, Madame Baird took her 6th and 7th grade French students on the exact same trip the very next day!!!

MYP

Museum

26

As an interdisciplinary project between Language & Literature and Individuals & Societies or Science, grade 5, 6, and 7 researched topics and produced a living museum experience. Grade 5 came to life as marine biologists and zoologists to raise awareness about endangered species. Grade 6 became ancient astronomers and characters from Greek mythology to explain the myths behind various constellations. Finally, grade 7 students played the role of famous inventors to show how these historical innovations were the foundation for many things we couldn’t live without today. Due to the high level of collaboration and organization required, this experience provided students the opportunity to grow their IB ATL skills including research, self-management, and communication. Students enjoyed presenting their work to PYP students in grades 2, 3, and 4 (who by the way were an amazing audience!)
