Head Of School Notes -- by Julie Ambler Theodore William Christopher Adams was named by his parents to honor his fore fathers. Since this was a HUGE name for a little boy, they affectionately called him “Teddy”. When Teddy went to school, the official school records referred to him as T. William Adams so he was known as “Billy”. Billy’s classmates and teachers quickly shortened his name to “Bill”. Unfortunately, another Bill popped up in his math class so our Bill offered to go by “Theo”, which seemed like a cooler name than Bill at the time. When he graduated law school, Theo needed to use his given name and decided to use T. William Christopher Adams. Later in life, his children’s teachers and friends called him “Mr. Adams”. When “Chris”, as his wife called him, turned 40, his family planned a huge birthday bash and mailed invitations to everyone he had ever known. The problem was that no one recognized the honoree’s name, Theodore William Christopher Adams. He thus teetered on the brink of depression due to this identity crisis. Only one thing could be done – he must clear up the confusion. He opened a Facebook account and, after months and months of telling and re-telling his friends how he wanted to be known, he finally established his identity! As you may have discerned from this parable, Theodore William Christopher Adams represents The Woodlands Christian Academy. (Thank you, Shelie Goodwin.) We have an outstanding school, and we want everyone in our community to know about it. The Woodlands

Christian Academy describes us perfectly, but it is a long name. Understandably, our school’s name is regularly shortened. Our names range from TWCA (The Woodlands Community Association?) to WCA (Waste Corporation of America?) to The Academy (which one?) to The Christian Academy (which one?). Ultimately, we sound like five different schools, and any experienced marketer knows this dilutes our effectiveness in establishing a brand. Our preferred shortened name, especially when talking to people outside of our school family, is “Woodlands Christian”. To further assist us with the advancement of our school’s image, we have adopted two primary logos, one for the school and one for athletics (see below). Our goal is to replace all of our previous logos and, again, clarify our image in the community. To make sure that we present ourselves consistently, we have established review and approval procedures for using the school’s name/logos in printed materials and on promotional items. If you have any questions or seek an approval, please contact Shelie Goodwin or Stacie Phillips. As we strive to become a light on the hill for Christ in this community, please help us to clarify our name and establish an image worthy of a Christian college preparatory school.
