Head Of School Notes -- by Julie Ambler What a wonderful Homecoming weekend! I am so grateful to everyone who planned and executed the many special events. We have truly affirmed that not even torrential downpours can stop the fun at Woodlands Christian! It’s a busy season here. Construction continues at a rapid rate, and we are preparing to occupy our new building and gym over the Christmas vacation. Classroom expectations are rising, and competitive teams and sports camps are keeping our students busy. Additionally, we will launch our annual fund campaign on Monday. As in past years, we have a lot of hoopla planned for this vital campaign. Please check your email and mailboxes next week for more details. We continue to improve our technology operations on campus by outsourcing our network, providing training to our faculty, and upgrading computers and other devices in the classrooms. We’ve also appointed Mrs. Cyndee Farra as our Director of Technology. As we plan for the future, we have decided to change the way we acquire laptops in the high school. Beginning next fall, rather than lease computers for our high schoolers, we will ask families to purchase a new MacBook from Woodlands Christian at a reduced cost. The MacBooks will come with all necessary software loaded, and be ready for the start of the new school year. Look for more details with your re-enrollment package in January. It has always been our desire to create a forum where faculty, parents and Christian leaders can intelligently discuss the distinctives and challenges of Christian education. Hence, I am pleased to announce that we are launching

a bi-annual lecture series to be known as The Compass Lecture Series sponsored by The Woodlands Christian Academy. Our first guest speaker will be Dr. Richard Riesen, acclaimed author of Christian education books such as Piety and Philosophy, The Academic Imperative, and School and Sports: A Christian Critique. His presentation and discussion on What Does “Christian” Have To Do With Education? will provide an excellent opportunity for families, educators, students, pastors and church members to better understand and appreciate the eternal value of a Christian education. Please make plans to join us in the MPR on Thursday, October 10 from 7 - 8 p.m. for Dr. Riesen’s presentation. We encourage you to invite your church friends and neighbors but note that space is limited. To make a reservation, click here or reply to the Pingg invitation that will be sent out soon. Our spring presentation will feature Dr. Bruce Lockerbie, author of dozens of books on Christian education and CEO of PAIDEIA, Inc. At The Woodlands Christian Academy, we are passionate about delivering an outstanding Christ-centered educational experience to our students. We firmly believe that no student is truly educated until he or she understands fundamental truths from God’s perspective. With such a foundation, students are best able to develop their unique gifts and talents, serve others and make an eternal impact for the Kingdom – spiritually, academically, physically and socially. We are honored to partner with you on this glorious journey.
