CHRISTIAN CHRISTIAN ACADEMY A C A D E M Y SEPTEMBER 21, 2012
Carolina Creek -- by Eve Allen For many of you, graduation is the last thing on your minds. You have a lower school student and that day when your child will don a graduation cap and gown and walk across the stage and on to college seems so far away. For others, it is right around the corner and you wonder at how this could be possible! It seems like just yesterday your child was playing in kindergarten! Now look at him! It does happen quickly and at Woodlands Christian we are privileged to walk alongside you and your child throughout this journey. Our global ends statement is a vision for what we desire our graduates to look like upon completion of their education at Woodlands Christian. It states that we want our graduates to have received Jesus Christ as Savior and fulfill God’s purpose for their lives as leaders - spiritually, academically, physically and socially. This journey began as soon as your child walked through the front doors of our school, no matter what their age. God has a plan for each and every one of our students and everything we do is measured with the aforementioned end in mind. As part of our desire to help our children grow closer to God and develop them spiritually and socially, we take our 2nd through 5th graders to a team-building day at Carolina Creek Christian Camp in Huntsville, Texas. Every year, we have students
who share with us that Carolina Creek made them feel more a part of the group, and they became closer to God and to their friends. That is why we go! While at Carolina Creek, our students participate in small and large group activities designed to get them active in solving problems as a community. All activities are led by the highly qualified and trained Christian camp staff and all lessons point to teamwork and to Biblical teaching. The activities are fun and engaging, but also challenge the students to really work together to find solutions to the challenges presented to them. I love to watch your children begin a challenge, get a bit frustrated, but then work through the frustration to solve the problem together! They learn to persevere, even when a task is difficult, and to value all the members of the group for the gifts that God has given them. They learn that as a group they are the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12), and each member of the body has a unique and important job to do. They have been perfectly gifted by God and all are important to Christ’s purpose! Our time at Carolina Creek sets the foundation for teamwork that our students draw upon throughout the year and throughout their lives (and it’s fun, too!)
2nd grade students work together to meet a challenge. 5th grade students learn teamwork.
