Lower School News Pre-K Is Out Of This World!

A recent visit to our pre-kindergarten classes proved to be an out of this world experience! Our pre-k students have been in astronaut training, learning about the closest planets to Earth and beginning to comprehend the expansiveness of the universe! Even as adults, we stand in awe of the glory of creation when we see pictures of God’s handiwork sent back to us from the far reaches of space! For many of our pre-k children, this is the first time they have seen these miracles, and it is exciting to watch them experience this discovery!

Mrs. Stewart’s class recently shared with me a mural they made of the planets (see photo at left). They were so proud to point out the drawings of themselves, floating among the planets as astronauts! So, don’t be alarmed if you hear the sounds of “10...9...8...7...,lift off!”, coming from the early childhood deck. It is simply learning in progress!

Sharing God’s Love

Thanks to those families who participated in the Feed One Project, a one day service project to pack meals for the orphans and vulnerable children of Zambia. It was a tangible way for our families to reach out and share Christ’s love with the world!

Upper School News Students Touch The World The Woodlands Christian Academy’s vision is to equip servant leaders to impact their world and eternity for Jesus Christ. High school students recently joined members of The Woodlands community in the Feed One Project, a one day service project to pack meals for the orphans and vulnerable children of Zambia. This project along with the many other community service projects in which our students participate help make our vision a reality!

Mole Day What is a mole? A mole is a unit that represents a number, as a dozen represents 12.

The quantity the mole represents is 6.02 x 10^23. This has been determined to be the number of atoms of an element equal to the atomic mass represented in grams, rather than atomic mass units. This allows for mass predictions in chemical reactions. Students in

Mrs. Masau's sophomore and AP chemistry classes set aside October 23 as Mole Day to further explore this concept. They created special t-shirts, solved problems, participated in chemistry demonstrations and even had appropriate snacks such as guacamole, tootsie moles and doughnut moles.

Nerf Physics Students in Mrs. Wheeler's physics class recently learned about projectiles in an unusual way.

They disassembled and modified a Nerf Gun N-Strike, collected data, and then had a class shoot off to see whose modification was the best. The class was studying the kinematics equations associated with freely falling projectiles in two-dimensions.

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Warrior Football In Playoff Hunt The Warriors’ road to the district playoffs took a detour last Friday with a 28-12 loss to Cypress Christian. A bright spot in the game was the return of injured senior Cray Noah who took a short pass 75 yards for a touchdown making the score 12-14 at halftime. The team is still in the playoff hunt but needs a win this Friday, November 2 against Beaumont Legacy to remain in playoff contention.

Senior cheerleaders and players will be recognized in a special halftime ceremony on Friday night.

It’s going to be a great night of football so come out and support your Warrior football team!

Warrior Cross Country Runner Named Academic All State Congratulations to senior runner Luke Shearer (at far right in photo) for being named to the TAPPS cross country academic all state team.

Qualifications for academic all state are as follows: must be a junior or senior; finish as a top ten individual in the state cross country race (Luke finished in 7th place out of 120 runners); must have a cumulative GPA of 90% or better. Way to go Luke!

Warrior Swimmers Participate In Meet The Warrior Swim Team traveled to Rosenberg, Texas for the Lamar Consolidated ISD Private School Invitational Meet on October 27 where they competed against 13 private schools from the south Texas area.

Along with the excellent competition, our Warriors had to battle temperatures in the 50s as the competition was held in an outdoor pool! The teams weathered the challenge well with the girls finishing in 4th place and the boys, with only four swimmers, finishing in 6th place. The combined team points resulted in a 5th place overall finish for the Warriors.

The individual swimmers finishing in the top eight in their categories are as follows: Hannah Bub (1st-200 yd. individual medley, 2nd-100 yd. breaststroke), Ashley Enriquez (7th-100 yd breaststroke), Hailey Hanigan (1st-100 yd backstroke, 4th-200 yd. freestyle) and Logan Shearer (8th-50 yd freestyle).

All five of our relay teams finished in the top eight. Finishes were as follows: the girls' 200 yd

medley relay team of Jordan Hanigan, Hannah Bub, Hailey Hanigan and Sarah Mansfield (4th), the boys’ medley relay team of Logan Shearer, Kyle Caddell, Jeffrey Chen, and Travis Ray (5th), the girls' 200 yd. freestyle relay teams of Hailey Hanigan, Jordan Hanigan, Katie Albertson and Hannah Bub (3rd) and, the boys' 200 yd. freestyle relay team with Jefferey Chen, Kyle Caddell, Travis Ray and Luke Shearer (6th). The girls' 400 freestyle relay closed out the day for the Warriors with an 8th place finish. This team included Jordan Hanigan, Ashley Enriquez, Isabel Vargas and Katie Albertson.

Katie Albertson, Hannah Bub, Hailey Hanigan and Jordan Hanigan have qualified to swim in the Magnolia TISCA meet on November 16. The Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association sponsors this meet throughout Texas. These ladies will face some of the fastest swimmers in Texas and we know they will do their best and compete well!

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Varsity Volleyball Season Wrap-Up The girls’ varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams recently ended their seasons. The varsity team made it to the first round of the playoffs, providing a strong finish to a great season.

With only one senior graduating, next year looks promising for the Warrior volleyball program!

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Middle School Volleyball Season Wrap-Up With a record number of 35 middle school volleyball players the future of Woodlands Christian volleyball is strong. This year’s three teams had many highlights. The green team finished strong in the NHAL District Tournament and came home with the consolation trophy, the gold team had a record number of wins, and the white team brought home the runner-up trophy at the Salem tournament. Way to go middle school volleyball!

This year’s book fair is in full swing.

Students are going all out during library times this week as they browse through the many wonderful books available at the book fair. The early childhood classes especially enjoyed their visits by receiving personal assistance from 6th and 7th grade students.

All proceeds from the All Star book fair benefit our Woodlands Christian library.

All School News 400 Students = 400 Blessings!

The Woodlands Christian Academy is continuing its tradition of participating in Operation Christmas Child. Our goal this is year is to collect 400 boxes and bless one child for every student at Woodlands Christian!

The mission of Operation Christmas Child delivers the joy of Christ’s love in giftfilled shoe boxes to impoverished children in more than 100 countries. You can change the life of a child by simply packing a shoe box with school supplies and basic necessities! Students in all grades are encouraged to be a blessing this Christmas. Boxes may be dropped off in the MPR until Wednesday, November 14.

All students must be fever, vomiting and diarrhea free for 24 hours without the use of symptom-reducing medication before returning to school.

Woodlands Christian’s policy is that students are not allowed to carry medications of any type. This includes, but is not limited to, Tylenol, Advil, cough drops, inhalers (without a doctor's note), vitamins, etc.

Students caught with any type of medication in their possession may be subject to disciplinary consequences.
