C H R I S T I AACADEMY N CHRISTIAN A C A D E M Y JANUARY 10, 2014

Joshua Academic Center Opens -- by Julie Ambler Happy New Year, and welcome back to Woodlands Christian! In many ways, it feels like a new school year. Our 1st through 8th grade teachers and students have moved into their new classroom building, and ten new students have joined us for the second semester. The Joshua Academic Center is a beautiful building, and its stately presence greatly enhances the appearance of our campus. The David Gymnasium should be complete within the month and, having removed three modular buildings, we will soon landscape our now larger central green space with grass and trees. God has truly blessed Woodlands Christian with a gorgeous campus, and it is a joy to see the tangible development of His vision. Not long ago, this campus was simply woods, and now we can clearly see the footprint of the eventual master plan for buildings that will serve

approximately 900 students. I am reminded that God brought us here by faith, not by sight. Even though we now enjoy seeing physical development, we must continue to faithfully trust Jesus for the direction and leadership of our school. Even more important than this physical campus are the spiritual lives of our students. The true purpose of this expanding campus is to provide an environment for training warriors for Christ – spiritually, academically, physically and socially. What a joy to see these students maturing in their faith and developing minds capable of making a difference for Christ’s kingdom. This is an exciting time at Woodlands Christian, and we look forward to a wonderful 2014. Thank you for the privilege of serving your family here.

Lower School News We Three Spies Under the direction of Mrs. Nancy Casey, lower school students entertained family and friends with the musical production, We Three Spies at Stonebridge Church on Thursday, December 19. The audience enjoyed performances by students in PreK-4 through 5th grade. We Three Spies revolves around the CIK (Christmas Intelligence Kids), a covert group of spies who secretly bring Christmas cheer to the needy. When their landlord threatens to evict them from their headquarters, confiscate their donations, and cancel their Christmas Nativity program the spies use some expert espionage and a lot of God’s unconditional love to get the landlord to change her tune. In the end, the CIK and the entire town celebrate the true meaning of Christmas - the birth of our Savior. The storyline of the program reflected our school’s partnership with the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. Thanks to your generosity, Christmas gifts were provided to more than 100 children in need in our community. Congratulations to the Lower School Music Department on another fantastic production, and many thanks to all those who put in so many hours to make We Three Spies such a tremendous success!

Upper School News Students Serve At Home And Abroad Woodlands Christian high school students embodied the true spirit of Christmas by serving others in our community and around the world. At home, the Interact Club shared gingerbread houses created in Mrs. Dew’s Life Skills class with residents of The Forum Senior Living Center. The gingerbread creations were used as centerpieces in the activity center throughout the Christmas season. On the other side of the world, two high school students used their Christmas break to share Christ’s love with those on another continent. Maddy Petty (Class of 2014) and Fabian Reyes (Class of 2015) travelled to Africa and the country of Zambia with Family Legacy Mission

International. The students spent ten days working with children at the Tree of Life Children’s Village. Fabian, with some pre-trip pointers from Coach Nate Sanford, taught a football class. With supplies on loan from Ms. Melinda Cohea’s art class, Maddy taught paint classes to the children at Tree of Life. She summed up the trip this way, “It was a great experience for us to spend our break helping God’s kids and it helped us to realize how blessed we are by the opportunities we have here in the United States.”
