Joshua Academic Center Update -- by Julie Ambler Thanks to the generosity of so many families and the dedication of our builder (SLI’s crews are working seven days per week), we have nearly completed construction and will move into the Joshua Academic Center over the Christmas break. Our 1st through 8th grade teachers will have their classrooms packed by the end of next week. Students will need to empty their lockers and take all personal belongings home for the holiday. During the following two weeks, we will install technology, set up new furniture, unpack boxes, organize classrooms, remove three portable buildings, lay concrete, and begin landscaping in preparation for the return of our students on January 8. The David Gymnasium will open with climate control and new sport court flooring at the end of January. We will also begin reconfiguring our fine arts deck (currently the middle school deck) and our upper school administrative deck to better accommodate band, music, an additional art studio, other classrooms/offices and a middle school locker room. When your students return to school on January 8, please proceed with the normal drop-off procedures during carline (lower
school to the Timothy Building and middle and high school to the Nehemiah Academic Center). Faculty and staff will direct students to their new classrooms. The teachers will devote that day to orienting students to their new surroundings and allowing them to organize their desks and lockers. Because we have so much work ahead of us, campus will be closed (except for scheduled team practices in the SLC) to all visitors from December 20 to January 8. Although the classrooms will not be fully decorated and SLI will still be completing its punch list, we invite you, our families, for an informal peek inside the Joshua Academic Center on January 8 at 3:45 p.m. We look forward to a formal dedication celebration at a to-be-determined date. This is an exciting time at Woodlands Christian, and we look forward to a wonderful 2014 as we continue our partnership to equip the next generation of Christian leaders. It is a pleasure to serve your family here, and we wish you all a safe and blessed Christmas season as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
