Head Of School Notes - by Julie Ambler Welcome back Warriors! It has been a busy summer, and we are overjoyed to have everyone back on campus. The biggest news is that our school has grown! While we continue to raise standards (spiritually, academically and socially) in our Admissions Office, we still denied admission to more than 35% of this year’s applicants. Even so, we have been blessed with record enrollment of 517 students. This represents a 20% increase over the first day of school last year. We are especially pleased to have retained 93% of our existing students and to welcome 137 new students. We filled most grades and added third sections to kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 4th grade and 5th grade. We have hired a stellar faculty and administration. I hope you have read in the summer newsletters about the many amazing educators that have joined our outstanding team. Our faculty boasts an average 15 years in the classroom, and 45% hold advanced degrees. We have also established associate principals for lower, middle and high school, enabling Mr. Steve Zeal, our School Principal, to focus on aligning all of our curriculum and programs from preschool through 12th grade. Thanks to the generosity of our parents at last year’s auction, we have made numerous
improvements to our campus. The new locker rooms attached to the David Gymnasium should be completed in a couple of weeks. (Unfortunately, the lockers do not arrive until mid-September.) We purchased two more 14-passenger busses, and we enlarged the early childhood playground. We are now exclusively an Apple school offering a blended digital learning environment from preschool through 12th grade. The goal is to marry the best teaching techniques with the best digital tools in order to challenge each student intellectually and to prepare 21st century learners capable of communicating, collaborating, creating, using critical thinking skills, and learning independently in an increasingly flat and global world. Each of our students has access to iPads, MacBooks, MacBook Airs and/or MacBook Pros. All of our classrooms include advanced technology such as Smartboards, projectors, and Apple TVs. We’ve also added Casper software to help protect students while on campus. At Woodlands Christian, we are committed to offering our students an exceptional Christ-centered college preparatory education – spiritually, academically, physically and socially - and making sure that each one has a positive, lifechanging experience at Woodlands Christian.
