Lower School News The Art Of The Printing Press

As part of their history lessons, students in Mrs. Ledbetter’s fourth grade classes are learning about the Gutenberg press and the printing of the first Bible. In order to more fully understand the printing process, students carved letters into potatoes to create their own block printing. What a fun way to make history come alive!

Upper School News High School Students Welcome Special Guest High school students welcomed guest speaker, Gerald Irons to chapel on Monday, March 31.

He is the Vice-President of Business Development for The Woodlands Development Company and is the former president of the Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees. He played professional football for the Oakland Raiders (1970-1975) and the Cleveland Browns (1976-1979).

Mr. Irons spoke to the students about setting goals and how he earned an MBA and a law degree at the same time he was playing football in the NFL. In addition, he has recently published a book entitled When Preparation Meets Opportunity. Mr. Irons encouraged students to dream big and to PUSH (Pray Until Something Happens)!

Pre-AP English Students Earn Awards Ten students in Mrs. Rowe’s ninth and tenth grade English classes submitted entries to the George Bush Library’s annual essay contest. The theme of this year’s contest was Community History and Heritage. Pre-AP students Hannah Bub and Matthew Dew earned 2nd and 3rd place honors respectively. Hannah Bub’s entry was a history of The Woodlands and its current leaders. Matthew Dew wrote about the founder of The Woodlands, the late George P. Mitchell.

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Warrior Golf Wins Third Straight District Championship The boys’ and girls’ varsity golf teams competed in the district championships on Monday, March 30 and came away with tons of hardware.

The boys’ team three-peated as district champs and have cemented themselves as one of the top golf programs in TAPPS 3A after only five years of team play. (See photo at center.) The Warriors were led by senior James Ray who shot an incredible 73 to win individual honors and bring home his first district championship. James was joined by Davis Galassini, Travis Ray, Parker Powers, Grant Galassini, Christian Mardaga, Chase Silman, and Kyran Miseldine in winning the team district championship.

The girls’ varsity team celebrates their 2nd place finish.

In the first year of team play for our girls, the team narrowly finished in 2nd place. Haven Albeiz and Hailey Watterson finished in 3rd and 4th places respectively in the individual competition and were joined by Jessica Robinson, Sydney Vanderpool, and Cassie Robinson in the team competition.

Both teams now advance to the regional tournament in San Antonio on April 14 when they will compete for a berth in the TAPPS 3A state golf tournament.

Warrior Track & Field Update Dominance! For the third straight year, our girls’ track team is the champion of the Houston Christian Relays. (Photo at center-girls’ team with all three championship awards.) The winning margin and

number of medals is possibly our most ever. We won the meet with 233 points (the second place team had 100). This meet included most of our district competition plus some of the other schools in our region.

Here are the meet highlights: Logan Shearer ran a 1:59 in his • 800m relay split.

• Hannah Shearer broke her school record in the 1600m (5:41) while Alyssa Regier, Katy Adams and Alex Yanochik set personal bests in this race.

• Hailey Watterson and Katie Rogers set personal best times in the 800m.

• Katy Adams, Hailey Hanigan, Alex Yanochik and Sam Mueck all set personal best times in the 3200m.

•Darcy Sanford and Wyatt Wheeler set personal bests in the 300m hurdles.

•Christian Mardaga set a personal best in the shot put.

•Darcy Sanford set a personal best with a high jump of 5' which matches the school record.

•Kyle Clark and Morgan Young matched their personal best heights in the pole vault.

Up next for Warrior track and field is a trip to Sugarland for the Logos Prep Relays on Saturday, April 5. Way to go Warriors!

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT NEWS Warrior Baseball Warrior baseball begins a two game home stand on Friday, April 4 when they host Faith West Academy. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. On Friday, April 11 the team will host Brazos Christian at 7:00 p.m.

The cool springtime evenings are great for watching baseball so come out and support your Warrior baseball team!

Warrior Softball The Warrior varsity softball team has been on the road for the past few weeks but they return home for their next four games on Friday, April 11 when they host district opponent Brazos Christian. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. On Monday, April 14 the team will face Cypress Christian. Make plans now to come out and support your Warrior softball team!

Basketball Two week session April 7-10, 14-17 3:45-5:15 p.m.

Football April 28, 30, May 1, 2 3:45-5:30 p.m.

Softball Two week session May 1-4, 7-10 4:00-5:15 p.m.

Baseball May 7-10 3:45-5:30 p.m.

D. Bruce Lockerbie, Chairman of PAIDEIA, Inc., is in his 57th year in the vocation of Christian schooling and is recognized as a leading advocate of Christian schooling throughout the world. He is author or editor of widely read books on Christian schooling (Who Educates Your Child?, The Way They Should Go, A Passion for Learning, A Christian Paideia). With his PAIDEIA, Inc. team of consultants, he has served schools across the country.
